This video shows how to repair a laptop (Toshiba L655) that does not turn on, good power supply and good power jack, but it still will not turn on.
Follow the step by step troubleshooting procedure to figure what its wrong with the computer, these steps work for most laptops so by following you might find out what is wrong with yours.
You may also find items I use and recommend at the following store front in amazon, any sales made there provide a few cents for funding of future videos. www.amazon.com/shop/carpio01

Thank you so much for this video. I just had a call from office staff re problems getting the computer to turn on. Rather than driving across town, calling a technician, etc., I walked them through this on the phone. It worked!

Thank you! This video was really useful for me to get my laptop back up and running. A couple of months back I doubled the RAM in my Asus laptop and it was working fine until a couple of days ago when it wouldn't power on although the (relatively new) battery was clearly working. When I'd try to switch the laptop on the battery LCD and power LCD would come on for 1 second and then both would switch off. After replacing the FFC to the power button (because the old one looked terrible) that didn't fix the problem. After watching your video I removed everything one by one like you did to identify the root of the problem, and it was the new RAM that was causing an issue. I now have a fully functioning laptop and I can now try to work out why the new RAM was a problem. Really appreciated this video. You saved me having to buy a new laptop.

Checked the voltage and wasn’t getting 19V until I started moving the cable around on my laptop. The 19V kept coming in and out and then I noticed some fraying on the cable inside the laptop. Positioned the cable to where I was getting a solid 19V and then plugged it in and boom. Charge light came on and got a replacement part on the way. Thanks to this video.

try taking the memory out and put only one of the two cards and try to turn the computer on, if the problem continues try taking that memory card out and put the one you had disconnected. This is done in order to check that the memory cards are functioning correctly. Keep track of which memory card you put in, if the monitor happens to turn on with one and not with the other then the memory might be bad. Try that and let us know if it fixes anything.

Please folks, don't try this at home until you try a simpler fix without opening up your computer.Remove the power supply, remove the battery, turn the laptop back over and press the power button to disapate any static and power from the capacitors. Turn the laptop back over and put the battery back in and plug the power cord in, turn it back over and turn on your laptop. This works 90% of the time, if it doesn't, just remove the battery and try with just the power supply in and no battery. If that doesn't work, take it to a 'reputable' repair shop, one that is recommended by someone you know who has had a successful and reasonably priced repair done on their own laptop. One more thing, please do not work on anything still plugged into the power unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing, that's one way to kill a laptop for sure without realising it.

Elaine yours seems to be the best advice I got on the net. I have an old ACER F5RL series. The notebook was standing for about 5 months, not turned on. (I work with MAC now...) so, of course, the accumulator was flat. on the front the yellow light and after charging, also the green light was working. left the charger on all night. yellow light is gone. only the green light is on. but does not start. I do not use the notebook for anything, just watch videos that my MAC will not play. The charger is on now, green light there is on as well. but it is cold. should be at least a little warm. even after only 5 minutes work. the green light on the notebook is on. tried to take out the battery and work on mains only, nothing. reset with a pin, nothing. suppose it will be off to the repair shop and see how much they will charge. first though I will lokk for abohter charger, though i do not htink he is the problem? have a good day...

Post a video, or fix a talkative friend’s problem... suddenly you are crushed with “friends” wanting free troubleshooting & fixes.. computers...tv’s...autos...plumbing...been there, done it, but now using “tough love”... no more “freebies”. Don’t ruin a friendship or acquaintance by being cheap. Taking a financial ‘hit’ on our part too often only lasts so long. At least up front, offer some money, or baked goods, or dog walking (you get the idea) if low on cash to help you out. It WILL be appreciated & keep the friendship door open. I hope that helps....

I appreciate the step by step you used in this video. I have had 2 different Toshiba laptops that have had the very similar problems. There were sporatic too. I do have experience with computers, laptops and education with electronics. But the laptop seemed so mystacal that my experince with them was challenging. But I want to have the confidence that you showed in this video. One of the Toshiba's that I still have expericed this problem. No video on start up. This has happened a couple times before. Today after I watched your video, I feel I know the culprit. I went back to the laptop, jiggled that connection (I have a wireless mouse connected to it) and pressed the start button and on came the laptop. I know I should trouble shoot to be sure and I will when time allows me. But thank you for giving me direction and more confidence.

cos cos bobo Thanks for watching! Yea If you have the tools and knowledge sure test the 19v, 3.3v, 5v as well as all the enable signals. But this tutorial is meant to be simple. Just because you assumed it was meant to be full in depth does not mean it is "the worst... ever" it is aimed at someone who does not nesesarily have the tools. The majority of coments are possitive, about how it helped them fix a computer without taking it to a repair place. And 3.3v at power button does not nesesarily mean it is good. If the title of the video was advanced motherboard component repair it would be different. Thank you for watching though, and I would really appreciate less negativity on the comments section. Thank you.

@@carpio01 if you can afford parts you do not need you can afford a multi-meter. Further more if one lacks the knowledge to use a multi-meter than maybe they should not be tearing into a laptop. Leave it to a tech not a parts replacer to have it fixed right. Especially with electronics where exchanges or refunds are rare. I'm not going to say this is the worst ever, it's obvious you love to work on computers and I don't want to discourage you. As someone who has been in your shoes in the beginning of my career as an auto tech and then later as a PC tech here is some advice. You are going to cross paths with many techs that are better and more knowledgeable at their trade. Especially Prima Donnas who will brag and boast and stroke there own egos. The important thing is to set your own ego aside and learn from them. Pick their brains. Most important is never get to the point where you think you know it all. Always be learning new things. "No it alls" stop learning. Thank the ones who took the time to teach and teach the ones that are eager to know. Good luck and have a nice day.

Thanks. This helped me. Mine turned out to be my touch screen display problem. No plans to replace, will lookout for a new one. Connected all without display and works fine, only thing I can't see any thing, I wonder if I can use my HDMI to project it out on a monitor. But for initial setup I will need the display.

Great video to understand how to take apart and put together a laptop. I appreciated the easy going manner of the author, and the way you stepped audibly through your thought process (helps to have it together before doing the video - LOL!). My daughter's Toshiba would not charge. Went through the basic stuff of battery, power adapter and power jack to make sure power was getting to the motherboard. Stripped it down to the motherboard, checking every connection then put it back together (no left over screws!) and it now charges normally and is working well. Must have been a loose or dirty connection, I guess. Nice to have this video on the web to reference if I have to do this again ever. Looking forward to other videos you will do!

Thank you sir for showing the process of elimination on repairing. I have a L645 with the same problem. I thought it was just it was a bad power jack but now I will check out the switch and USB port board.
