Meenakshi ji, thank you! It's your call on how you want your finished pieces to look like. In this kiln, reduction firing seems to work great. For an oxidation firing, I still opt for an electric kiln. But I must try the oxidation firing in the HTC kiln like how Kamana & Greeshma have done. To your question, as Greeshma mentioned lighter shades can be easily painted on red fired. If you prefer a black base coat for borders of highlighting your designs then black firing works. It's your preference.

The HTC kiln will not work on an induction.

No, a regular microwave oven won't work.

For oxidation firing I use a regular kiln & get it done at the pottery studio. This particular HTC kiln is designed for a reduction firing. (Best when used with saw dust or wooden scraps).

You can make ared firing using the kiln. I was advised 15 more mins after half an hour on high fire but after a lot of different experiments i have found that 40 mins on medium and around 50 or so mins on high fire give me a very nice red firing. Please do experiment with the red fired material by dipping in water for some time to see if the entire piece has hardened properly. If it has not you will have to experiment like me.

@@kamanamuley4232 hey thanks Kamana. I was infact advised the same when I called to check about this. But I found that doing a reduction firing seems more reliable in this kiln. For any oxidation firing I just get it fired from the studio in an electric kiln. But no harm in trying. Please do update here if you find any more info or have any more inputs on this topic. Would be informative for us all!

This probably is the best method for firing especially if you are in a rented house.
