With all the constant stream of new cameras and so on I’ve decided I don’t have time to learn all the tricks and techniques to become a RU-vidr like you. I like keeping things simple so my focus is just to ride as often as possible. I’ll leave movie making to the experts like you Brian, it certainly keeps me enthusiastic about bikes and life n general. Camera worked pretty darned good. In other news, great to see a cool hardtail along for the ride. 👍🏻👍🏻

So gutted I didn't see you guys! I was riding in Coe that same day! If anyone spotted a super rad (hehe), gray Toyota 4Runner in the parking lot, that was me. Me and a buddy road a lot of the same trails that you guys did that day, maybe we even saw you but didn't realize it! Coe is an experience and as a south bay rider, its the first place I go for adventure. Thanks for making all your awesome videos!

Henry Coe!!! Such a big epic place! Coe was my backyard riding spot 10-15 years ago. Lots of brutal climbs and big descents back there!

Brian, maiden voyage looked great. I was impressed by the audio actually. You were hauling ass through some of those sections and there was no wind noise. Auto exposure seemed to keep up nicely. I enjoy these vids being a video nerd as well as a bike nerd.

I own the WG2 a quick tip if you decide to run with it is take an old inner tube and cut 1/4" strips to make little rubber bands and use it to secure the gopro to the rig faster than thoes fiddly little screws and bracket.

Jeff....Watch Phil Kmetz's video. Brian does great too, but Phil puts it through its paces and you see the differences. Unfortunately, it almost requires a chin bar to get it really stable, and a good perspective. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TzD0bPL1ue4.html He chin mounts it at about 4:22.

Gopro 4 still does a great job for people on a budget looking for a nice used camera. I got mine gently used a bunch of stuff with it for 90bucks. Your 7 sounds good and looks good as well...nice

I think the hypersmooth would look better than this gimbal honestly. I've seen lots of test video with the hypersmooth and it is really impressive. You should do a test of your own with a chesty using hypersmooth. Also, I think the secret to avoid pixelated video is to set sharpness to low and color to flat, and correct those after the fact :) I thought the audio in this video was on point honestly. Nice and full. Great video as always Brian!

You guys need to watch Phil Kmetz's video with the Hero 7. Everything I've seen shows that it just is not stable enough UNLESS it's chin bar mounted. A lot of people refuse to wear full face helmets. I think it looks like crap on a chesty, and helmet mounted on the top or under the visor. @@dylanfoote8481 ...I agree. My issue all along has been motion sickness. If I could watch POV videos without stabilization and not get nauseated, I'd be fine with that, but it's not an option...I can't make a full minute. I don't have an issue watching Hero 7 footage if it's chin mounted. I haven't watched enough chest mounted to make a call on nausea. Helmet or under visor...just never cared much for that view, because it seems disconnected. I will be curious to see if GoPro can tweak the software via updates to improve on the hypersmooth, or...if they will improve it and release an 8 that will be even more stable, and be able to be worn on a chesty for those who despise full face helmets. For me...I'm sold on chin mount with the 7. it's LIBERATING for me, because I always wear full face anyway. I like almost everything about it provided people don't try to mimic a chesty by showing the bars and stem, which in turn doesn't show enough of the horizon. Beyond that...I'm sold, and look forward to more people using that view!

Willbros Yes I have seen that video. For most riders the chesty will work just fine. Phil is a former pro downhill racer and an insanely fast and aggressive rider. In his video he was hitting huge jumps and stuff. What works best for him may not be necessary for most riders.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 7 black with the intention of using it with my gimbal... then I tested the stabilizer on some rough Austin trails on my hardtail... I was pleasantly surprised.

@BKXC I think the video is good. I really like the audio your voice comes through well and I really like that you can hear the tire noise better. The sounds give it a better feel for what your riding on like gravel or leaves you can really tell the difference from the audio.

The sound was better than i expected... I always look at the videos on the TV with Apple TV and for the sound i always use my home theater speakers and it sounded real good! The colors is real nice with the Hero 7. If you don't talk about it i actually dont think so many is going to think about the sound, it is good enough!

In my opinion this is the perfect setup at the moment: Gh7 + hypersmooth stabilization + wg2(or wg2x, its the same). I use this and I think it just works: good sound, no microvibrations, gimbal movement remains.

Also id try mounting this gimbal how you mounted your evo ss because I tried it like this before and it was more shaky than when the camera was upright in its natural position, also try superview with hypersmooth on to smooth out all them little bumps

Great video. Some suggestions based on my testing of the Hero5 to potentially make the setup more awesome. Instead of running it on Audio ProTune Stereo Only, try it on Wind Only instead on Low or Medium setting. Makes it way less underwater sounding, at least on the Hero5. Additionally, the balance on the WG2X is probably not ultrasensitive if it's 1mm here or there. My WG2 is about 1-2mm off axis and the camera actually leans slightly to one side when gimbal off, but when on it is perfect and doesn't suffer from leaning in and out of corners. Finally, have you tried turning on HyperSmooth on the Hero7 with the Gimbal. Could lead to some amazingly smooth footage! and get rid of your micro-bumps completely. Hope you get the new setup working well and continue to provide quality vids as you have been for years!

This is a GREAT test because out of all the content creators on the internet, your voice is the most familiar. I'm surprised, the sound quality was good with the voice, still misses some of the features of the trail and not the Trail Features lol. It works, but still hard to beat that crystal clear audio of the Hero 4 Black.The Hero 7 is close but not there yet IMO.

Have you ever tried the 'Linear' view on a GoPro? When I used one (back in the day) I actually preferred it, because (to me) it seemed like it made the trail look a little more true to life. The Hero 7 can do the Linear view at 2.7k, but you can also do 60fps at that res in linear, so it may end up being a similar file size to your 4k Wide view. I would play around with it if you haven't already. Otherwise, I think things look pretty good. Haven't commented in a while... so great vids man! You've been killing it.

When to Henry Coe State Park on a solo trip a few years back. When I was riding the trails, the entire time I felt like I was being stalked. When I talked to the ranger at the camp site, he said "Yeah, they tend to do that. But they never really do anything about it, they just like to fuck with ya." That place was amazing, and I recommend Henry Coe to everyone here. Its a very mtb/gravel bike friendly place.

I've been using my hero 7 off the gimbal for a bit and I like it, nice and smooth but I'll mostly use it for road rides and road descents where I don't want to be playing around with the gimbal and on hiking with Emily videos like Vancouver Aquarium and Johnson canyon

I almost dove into the trade-in event that GoPro is running, but I didn't have an older gopro to get rid of. The one I'm using is still $250! So I'm gonna be saving up to buy it outright. Looking forward to seeing an actual bike test video. So many of them don't test very well....

Yup... Image quality is better when you're riding through mixed sun & shadow. On a different topic -- When you said this bike feels more planted. Most reviewers talk about head angle and forget about the importance of BB height. I have a RM Altitude with the Ride9 chip and I notice the effect of changing the BB height in tight, technical trails and in slippery conditions. A small change seems to make a noticeable difference, but maybe that's the marketing guys getting into my head too.

Nope..that's real...not marketing! A lower BB will lower your center of gravity, and if you can adjust to pedal striking, and learn how to prevent it, you're going to corner faster and feel more stable with a lower BB. I've ridden bikes with higher BB's, and I can tell IMMEDIATELY when I try to corner fast on them. Up until recently when the Mfr's finally started changing geo, I always had an angle set in my bikes of 1.5 degrees. That slackens it by increasing the HTA and lengthening the bike, and drops the BB slightly. I would descend faster instantly with that change.

Great video Brian. Every youtuber that switched to Hero 7 seems to have pixelation problems. Not sure about everyone else, but it does bother me. Try changing sharpness to low as mentioned in the other comments to see if it will improve it.

Good to see this review. I'm using the Hero 4 with the Zhiyun tech rider-m for a couple of years now and the combination is really good. Waiting to see the review from the Karma grip on your channel, the down side for me with the karma grip is how big it is.

Hey mate, I think the shakes you mentioned are an issue with the new stabilisation in the new Hero 7. They released a firmware update to address it but I found it still does it to a lesser extent. Check the release notes for the latest GoPro Hero 7 firmware update and they mention it there.

Regarding the balance in #20:10 - I used WG2 (non X) and it could not balance Hero 7. You could cheat with weighing it down by gluing / taping coin on the opposite side, but the motors were struggling with camera bumps anyway... kinda sorta like your micro bumps. It was fine on light trails, but bike park was next to its limit and I had to watch for the occasional chest shots after it 180-d. Sent it back to the store.
