I ran up the engine to 4000 rpm and did the checks before taking off. All good.
On take off the left carb came off the rubber flange. See the image at the end. A support spring that's supposed to hold back the carb is missing in the picture. Not sure if this is why the carb drooped down.
Before the flight I had tightened this flange and checked the support spring after replacing the fuel bowl gasket, which I had discovered was leaking in the previous flight.. That's another story.
