It's so crazy as someone who was a kid during the Jheri curl 80s days to see people using this product on their natural hair. Who knew? Jheri curls and S curls were chemical processes (almost like 'not all the way relaxed'...texturizer type methods) and the activators were to help you keep the curls moisturized throughout the day. It is hilarious that it works on natural hair and people didn't need the process part. Oh the 80s...

If I knew in the 80's that curl activator could do that I would have saved my mom a hell of a lot of money from getting a curly kit every few months.

I used this product in the 80’s and 90’s and this what grew African Americans hair back then because of the moisture that was in your hair. I have been natural for a year and 7 months and I said to myself what can I use in my hair so I won’t become a product junkie, went to my black owned beauty supply store walked around and it jumped right out at me S curl spray and when I tell you that’s all I use and people always ask me how did you get your hair to grow so fast. Hunty that S curl is still that deal. And if you use it while you have protective styles especially braids it is the bomb. Hair stay soft at all times. Your hair turned out gorgeous

Hey Jess, the young lady that started this Faye in the City, has low porosity hair also and she places a plastic cap on her head for about 10 minutes or if you have a bonnet dryer you can sit under it for 5 - 10 minutes after you put your leave-in conditioner on. Let me tell you I tried it and it made all the difference in my low porosity hair. The amount of moisture my hair was able to get just from leaving the plastic cap on after applying my leave-in was unlike anything I had ever had. My leave-in was not sitting on top of my hair when I removed the plastic cap.

If you don't have a steamer at home, GET ONE! I have low porosity hair and the steamer will open your hair strands to receive the product. Thank me later! I feel your pain on that low porosity hair and product sitting on it. (P.S. I've started using Mielle Pomegranate & Honey line for Type 4 hair... it's the truth!)

I have been using the two gels together for years and the combination works wonders. I even mix the two together in a jar to make the application process easier.

I found out from a male stylist on youtube that water is really the only thing that gives our natural hair real moisture. So now I look for hair moisturizing creams and products with lots of water in it. That might be why the gel activator works so well.

I recommend using the honey leave in and then using a heated conditioning cap for like 10-15 mins. Helps the product go into my low porosity hair. I had THE SAME reaction as you when I tried this a few months ago. I use the xtreme gel but GIRLLLLLL my hair stays moisturized and the curls be popping 😩😩🙌🏾

Curl activator is just wonderful! It moisturizes and seals moisture into your hair while giving definition. I used to use it on my natural hair before I got a perm, and after I did a big chop recently (went back to natural), it was the first thing I went in search of. Everyone with natural hair needs to get that good old curl activator. These modern products do not compare!

The honey leave in is also really useful for clumping curls; beautiful hair and results x

When of the reasons to Jerry curl was so popular was because of the moisturiser that you put on your hair. Your hair was so moisturized , that it just grew and grew with some people.

History: We put chemicals in our hair to change it and we didn't even have t. I look at women in their 60s going natural and their hair is so beautiful. Like they never needed a jerry curl nor a perm. Mind blowing.

The Jheri Curl grew every type of hair back in the 80's because of the moisture. I'm surprised it curled the hair without the relaxer base being applied . Shout out to the young lady who tried it FIRST and YOUR hair looks FABOULOUS

In 1987 my Jr year in college, I was wearing my hair natural. Needless to say, natural hair wasn’t admired in Texas at the time. East coast sister started the trend, like cast members of, “She Gotta Have It”. Products I used were Cream of Nature conditioning shampoo and curl activator. My hair was fabulous, sister would make stupid comments about my hair, but white people loved my locks. Look at us now! It took a few decades, but look at us now.

I stopped using eco style gel because of the flaking and my hair would get really dry after a day or two but now I use blueberry bliss curl gel I’ll never use any gel other than that everrr!!!🥰☺️

I noticed that you let your hair air dry before adding the leave in conditioner. my suggestion is when you're done with your shampoo routine, towel blot or t-shirt blot your warm wet hair then immediately add the leave-in conditioner. I'm making this suggestion because I'm horribly low porosity. when I rinse my deep conditioner out with hot or warm water, I towel blot my hair a little, I make sure that my cuticles are still open, then I add my leave-in, followed by my sealant oils (LCO). when I follow this entire procedure, there is not one product that's sitting on my hair. never let your hair air dry. I'm a new subscriber. Continue to bring good content and make us laugh. I can't stand boring youtubers. I'm like........NEXT!!!

Back in the mid 90’s I used “Hawaiian Silky” curl activator on my natural hair. I laughed throughout this whole entire video! I knew it was going to be awesome!

Y’all this stuff is like Blue Magic , it was in so many of our houses back in the day and along the way people just decided it wasn’t IT anymore, but it’s always worked for me.

Oh the youngins! This is nothing new. I've always used activator on my hair. Most people with natural hair born before the 90s have been using it.

Always section your hair when applying leave in conditioner and any other hair products like moisturizers and oils. That’s the best way to get the product through your hair. Then use a wide tooth comb to spread product to cenotaph through each section.

I have low porosity hair as well. And recently I tried applying product in my hair while still in the shower/steam in the bathroom and two weeks later my hair was still nicely hydrated.!

Yes I've found that the old school curl activators are way better at curling and defining than those high priced products that do absolutely nothing but dries and flakes.

I started using the “Lustrasilk Curl & Max activator moisturizer” about a year or so ago. It’s a bit sticky though. So, I like to mix it with water in my spray bottle too!
