Finally Using the Model D!
A short while back I posted a video about revamping my DAW setup. I'd hoped that in permanently connecting my Model D to a keyboard and recording interface, I'd finally start to use it. Well...I was right! Ever since I filmed that video I've been unable to stop playing with it! If you have a piece of gear that you've been struggling to use, try changing the situation in which you use it. The right application is out there, you just have to find it! Enjoy the video :)

With all the coverage of the expensive Moog re-release, the Behringer Model D has been growing on me. Have largely been sticking to presets and effect pedals since I'm new to synthesis, so all the knobs and lack of screen has been intimidating vs my Volca Bass and Monologue, but thinking of giving it a shot.

It's pretty intimidating at first, but also pretty easy to learn if you stick with it. Not to mention everything you learn on the Model D can translate to just about any other synth in some capacity :)

Hi! I bought a Behringer model D, and when I turned it on only the overload light blinked and it didn't do anything else, they changed it for a new one and it does the same thing, so I tested the power supply of my rd-9 and it works perfectly, What do you think the solution would be?

I'm a bit confused about all these... I never had a synth before, and planning to start playing around with them... so can I just plug the Arturia Keylab Essential 61 directly to the speakers and play all the 6000+ presets? Quesiton 2, of I would want to connect it with the Behringer D, I imagine I would need some sort of audio interface, or mixer, right? And then plug that into a laptop or speakers? Basically I just want to put together a simple setup (also being not too expensive) that I can start creating and recording some ambient music a la space/sci-fi/tribal style. Would love to hear any suggestion from you, thanks! :)

I can relate to this in two ways: 1) my neighbour always seems to cut grass for hours, and it is like 6 square meters ;-) 2) I also forget about gear that is not directly in front of me (this is also the danger of VST's) You did the right thing, and the jam was coming along nicely.

I use the model D for all kind of Electronic Ambient sounds - a nice machine with a good sound. My last video is about the External Audio Input - to use the filter with and without the oscillators, this is a nice way to generate a thick warm sound

Always great to see not-so-often-used gear shine, once some workflow issues have been ruled out. I guess especially with mono synths it might be the case that they don't really fit in a DAW-less setup, since working with a single voice becomes boring after a while. A DAW, offering an infinite amount of audio tracks and overdubs, might be better suited for that. I really wish more of the hardware devices out there would come closer to that DAW audio-multi-track experience.

I use monos OFTEN in dawless setups - and the model d is one of my favs. if u understand how analog synths work, u can have much fun with it.

How is the tuning stability of the Model D? I love that fat Minimoog sound, but hearing stories of people needing to recalibrate the thing with a multimeter is a bit of a turnoff. It sounds awesome though, I like the improv drumming as well! I'm still trying to come up with something better than "four on the floor kick with snare on the off beat" :)

Can only speak for myself but the tuning on mine is bob on, the tuning nobs aren't overly sensitive either. If I'm lucky or not I cannot say but just wanted to give you my 2 pennies worth :)

I haven't had any issues really. I have to retune after it sits for a while (few days at minimum), but just tiny adjustments with the oscillator tuning knobs. I've never had to open it up or anything. Takes 20 seconds or so, no big deal.
