Keep up the good work with the synth videos. There isnt a lot of you around. The synth craze died for a few years but now it's back strong. I always loved the synthesizers. Thank God synths are cooler than ever.

As for the expression pedal... I just now plugged it into my "Ring Thing" brand ring modulator that is on the output side of the model D. Quite interesting but yeah... My pedal does nothing either on the D.

I picked a trombone preset from my digital synth and dropped it an octive then mixed it in with a stiff low ramp up triangle "I think" on the analog behringer model D.... Oh M G ! It's so Gorillaz like.

Aaron White I use a 1/4” to 1/8” adapter to send the Model D to my effects pedals. From the pedals it goes to my DAW. I’m controlling the synth via MIDI with an M-Audio controller. Model D -> Boss DD-5 Delay -> TC HOF Reverb -> Focusrite Clarett

Not sure if it's something you'd want to do, but I could suggest a way of making a DIY box to let you make a CV with your expression pedal; You'd need a box with a 1/4" TRS jack socket, a smallish resistor and a 3.5mm mono jack socket, plus a way of feeding it 12V, so lets say a 2.1mm/5.5mm power socket, like on a guitar pedal. The resistor is to avoid damage to your power supply when you plug or unplug things - big enough to protect it from a short, but small enough not to have a significant effect on the signal, say 100 Ohms should be fine. Assuming the pedal is wired with the tip of the 1/4" TRS plug to the wiper of its pot and the sleeve and ring to either end of the track of the pot, take +12V from the power socket, via the smallish resistor, to the ring connection of the 1/4" TRS socket. Wire the sleeve contact of the 1/4" socket to the sleeve contact of the 3.5mm mono jack socket and the ground connection of the power socket, and wire the two tip contacts of the sockets together. The other way the pedal might be wired is with the ring wired to the wiper of the pot, and the two ends of the track wired to the tip and sleeve - it would be best if you could check, with a multimeter. Either way, wire the box to match - ground goes to the sleeve, 12V goes where it needs to go to connect to the other end of the track (through the safety resistor), then the signal is taken from where it needs to come from (tip or ring of the 1/4" jack), to the tip connection of the 3.5mm mono jack socket. This makes more sense if you sketch the connections on a piece of paper. Feed power to the box and the Model D via a guitar pedal daisy chain / power splitter lead - I'm assuming the Model D power socket is the same sort, but I've never seen one, so you might need some other sort of adapter. Plug the expression pedal into the new box, and run a 3.5mm patch lead from it to the filter cut off CV input of the Model D.... Maybe try it with a multimeter first, to see what voltage you're getting, as you move the pedal Maybe close the filter with the cut off knob, so you notice the effect, or close it half way so you can check you can open or close it with the pedal. If there's a limit on the size of the CV you're allowed to feed it, you'll need a larger resistor in series with the track of the pot in the pedal - not just the small safety one. E.g. if you want to limit it to 6V, use a resistor the same value as the track of the pot - measure it, with a multimeter. It's easy enough to swap a resistor later, so I'd probably start with that. If you want to increase the voltage, you could just solder a smaller resistor in parallel, afterwards.

Yep. As per my much longer post, you'd need to take the 12V going into the module (e.g. with a power splitter cable), and feed it into a powered adapter box. It would just be wiring and a resistor though - less complicated than I probably made it sound.

You're welcome, Steve. I've since managed to get hold of one, and made a start on reading the manual. They give the allowed CV ranges in the Specifications section, and it's 0-5V, for the filter cut off. They also say to stay within the specifications, so... A resistor would work, but a 5V regulator would work better, and would still give 5V out with different spec pedals (i.e. different value pots, in the pedals). There are some nice small modules on ebay, for a couple of dollars, which can give you 5V from the 12V supply. I'd still use a smallish resistor between that and the power connection to the pedal socket though. When you plug a jack plug in, you tend to short the adjacent connnections together. A 100 Ohm resistor still seems reasonable - that would give you 50mA (from 5V / 100 Ohms) if you shorted it out, which won't damage anything. I may try it myself, soon. I bought some salvaged mod and pitch bend wheels, on ebay, recently.

I get it! The procedure must be done very quickly and finished before hearing the sound of the A-440, I think within about fhe first 3 seconds of turning on the power not within 5 seconds as written in the manual. The multi-trigger works and I've changed the note-priority, I am very glad to have purchased this instrument. Thanks and congratulations for your very useful video. From Italy, ciao!!!

carl aylward you have to do it very fast when you turn the synth on. It took me about 20 try’s to get it. Once it’s set the way you want it will stay in that mode after turned off

yes i believe so but i want BOTH multi triger AND last note priority and the manual doesnt exsplain exactly how to select wether last/low/high so how do you selcet what i want ie last. & multi triger, can you exsplain what i have to do step by step "idiots guide" so that i can do BOTH settings , ? manuel does not actuarly descibe how to choose which mode you want .the manuel just says by quick switchin you can select the diferant modes , but not how to selecvt which one. ok cheers steve

i can get multy triggerong but cant get last note priority which for me is absolutly essential, for me with out laste note priority the synth is useless for how i play a synth, so any help there would be greatly appreacheated cheers

the problem is the manual says for note priority "if more than one note is playedat at the same time,this sets which note has priority,the last note played,the lowest, [ default, or the highst "this is a useless/badly written discription of how to change the modes, it doesnt actuarly say how you chose from the 3 options, can any one help me here ?

Good. Thanks. I read that part of the manual, after seeing your video, and I still wasn't sure. It does seem error prone. I prefer it to the way Arturia did it with the Minibrute though - you need their software and a USB cable to change those sort of settings, so it's going to be a problem in the future, after upgrading or ditching Windows. Presumably Arturia used sysex, but they never revealed the codes, AFAIK.

Excellent. I'm glad it worked for you, Steve. I expect all that's "explained" in the manual, but I have to admit, I can't make much sense of some of it. I'm still trying to work out if that could be done on the original Minimoog Model D, or only on the Miniboog. Those two switches don't appear on any patch sheets I've seen, for the original, so maybe not.

christopher marx I’m considering picking up the SE-02. The Model D is awesome, but from the looks of it, the SE-02 is very similar except you can save patches. After owning the Model D for some time I find myself wishing I could save some of the strange sounds I’ve made

@@StephenLearson I didn't know that, I need to research more. But, I'm definitely getting the Behringer MS-101, it's actually cheaper than buying a Roland SBX 1 synch box for my vintage blue SH 101. My baby!! The MS101 is a clone and sounds so darn close to an original Roland, plus it has built in USB and midi.
