When half of the band hated the song it's easy to admit it. Ace hated it because of the fast movements with his right hand continuously throughout the song, and throughout the tour. He said his hand would hurt playing it.
Fun Fact: Ace Frehley doesnt like” I was made for loving you” due to the strumming the same notes as it made his hands hurt and cramp. Regardless its an all time favorite and I hope they know how much we appreciate the hardwork they put into that song 👌🏻🔥
big eddy machete Oh of course, I’m taking more specificity about “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.” Since Paul Stanley wrote the song, he gets a larger chunk of the royalties for that song. I’m sure Simmons gets huge royalties for songs like “Rock N Roll All Nite.” I was just talking about for that song only.
@@viyzo1183 I knew it. Just by the way he threw that comment in there.. it was like a desperate person trying to interject their version of the truth that nobody asked to hear.
Benefitting from a thing financially and hating it don't cancel each other out. I wouldn't want to work for years in an office, no matter how much they pay me or how nice my coworkers are.
“I was made for loving you” was considered a disco song, And of course, it’s my favorite song of theirs, it brings back memories of my girlfriend back in the day, she would put it on the turntable and we’d get started, and I don’t mean dancing.
It's a little strange for me to think about a song that has a lot of palm mute technique in the guitar playing to be considered a disco song to dance along. It's a great song though.
@hellion2k ..so it would be hard to find a wig that looks like that???..looks like a damn dollar general store 2 dollar...halloween wig..lol....wouldnt be hard at all ...to find a wig of such quality,,,,i am biased though ive got my reasons for hating this dude
@Ascetic One, I have heard Gene mention God and the Bible plenty of times, but have never heard him say he doesn't believe that Jehovah exists. He tends to keep his religious beliefs to himself.
Gene about groupies in "Kiss Unmasked" "For me it started really romantic, the girl was really shy and she didn't know who I was...AND THE REST OF THE WORLD WILL GO 'BULLSHIT!' "
Have you ever wondered where your soul goes after this life? We are sinners despite any tiny sins we commit like lying, bad thoughts, or cussing. It doesn't even matter how many good deeds we do because one little sin is bad enough already. We cannot make it up to heaven on our own will. Our God, Jesus Christ, decided to come down to Earth as a SINLESS human and sacrificed His life for our sins. Then He resurrected three days later! Therefore if you believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Savior, you'll definitely have eternal life. Your existence is proof that God is real. God is the only one who can create your body, your organs, your features, your blood, and fingerprints. That is why nobody has the same finger prints nor DNA as you. @@small_fries7573 There is no such thing as sin. We all are immortal spirits. All of us survive physical death and are embraced in love on the other side. No Abrahamic schemes of salvation are necessary.
Paul Stanley, Vini Poncia and Desmond Child wrote _I Was Made,_ no Gene credit, so in all likelihood Gene made nothing on the song except as a studio musician, indirectly through album & merch sales, and as a performer. The bass line, if he did "write" it, was implied by Paul's vision of the song, which means that Gene's concoction does not qualify for any songwriting share of the proceeds. There is a term for this kind of substantive but incidental instrumental or vocal part contribution to recorded music that escapes me at the moment, but because such contributions are ubiquitous, they are legally pegged and excluded from songwriting royalties for exactly that reason. So Genie still makes money on the song, but from supporting it, not from royalties where the millions are made.

@@princessbell2530, That's probably accurate. When I saw them in January 1985 fans kept yelling titles between songs. And Gene told us, "Someone wants to hear somebody up here sing BETH!". So a capella he puts on sort of a goofy hi pitched voice and grabs his Adam's apple and shakes it while singing "Beth, I hear you call-iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!" Everybody fell out, and then they went back to their gig.
@@princessbell2530, Oh, he hates Beth alright. Back in January '85 he was making fun of the song and the person who kept yelling for it. Of course, if you have ever heard Alive II, the vocals on Beth were absolutely horrible. I still can't believe they couldn't find a better version somewhere or even rerecord the vocals like they did with the Alive I. A lot of people still don't know it but a LOT of Alive (1975) was rerecorded in the studio. Guitars, vocals, Peter's drum solo, the audience was enhanced. When you are jumping around on stage like that you are going to make mistakes and blow solos and mikes getting knocked over and all kinds of stuff. Paul let the cat out of the bag in an interview I read probably 5 or 6 years ago. I was surprised but I understand that they wanted the definitive representation of what a K I ⚡⚡ show COULD be, so they took their liberties and embellished a bit. I never think about it on the rare occasion that I listen to it. It is still in my top 3 all time favorite live recordings, live or not.
@@gummypuss69, True. I have a bit of insight on that. James Hetfield was asked if there was any Metallica song he wishes he had never written, and he said YES. "The entering of the sandman." When asked WHY he said, "because I have to play it every f*cking night for the rest of my life!". Things do get old and I can see why that song would get old. I was tired of it 25 years ago too. I never listen to or play that song anymore. Ever. Dio said the same thing about Rainbow In The Dark. He hated it. Phil Collins said the same about Against All Odds. Of course I understand why. He wrote it for the movie. And I never liked that song anyway. I thought it was horrible. Apparantly so did he. Billy Joel hates We Didn't Start The Fire. So do I. I think it's his worst song. There is a video of him at Madison Square Garden and he blobs the lyrics and stops the band and the song and goes off on a rant about hating playing the song but fans expect to hear it so he deals with it. Doesn't sound like it to me, lol. I have seen him flip out onstage and flip his electronic piano over and smash mike stands. He's kinda known as a loose cannon with a bad temper. Damned musicians...lol.
Great! So Gene’s most hated song is my favorite song 😹 first ever kiss song I ever heard.. I didn’t even speak English but I could sing that do do do perfectly ♥️ I was made for love you! KISS 💋

I remember I first saw them at 6 years old after seeing Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park. At age 8, I went out for Halloween as Catman since the lady who did my makeup couldn't do Ace Frehley. I'm super grateful I got to see them at their End of the Road World Tour.

BTW, when kiss was in sweden, i REALY REALY REAALY whanted a photograf from espachely Gene and i was SSOOO sad when i didnt get a photograf, som worker came to me when she saw me cry and avsked why! I Said that i didnt get a photograf and all that, and then she Said "ok, wait here!" And we waited, and about 15 min later GENE HIM SELF CAME AND GAME ME THE NAME SIGN FROM THERE DOOR!! 😭😍❤️ AND I DIED!! I was SOOO happy!!!!
I grew up in the late 70s as a kid.. i still love that song lol most people hate it..its a good childhood memory and hearing on the radio and seeing them play it live on tv..
I specifically watched Gene during I Was Made For Loving You when they played in Jacksonville earlier this year and I remember him rolling his eyes and having some sarcastic dance moves. Immediately thought of this video.
Now that was an incredible interview. I watched it a few times and the sharing between Gene and his interviewer is real. He's also very down to earth, no condescension.
"I was made for loving you" is one of my fav KISS songs Gene. There are some great songs on that album. Had it on LP. Albums were more fun than an 8Track. Had a few of them also.
Reminds me of the movie "Detroit Rock City", about teenage Kiss fans in the late 70's who have an adventure on their way to a Kiss concert. They hate disco and there's a joke about how Kiss would never do a disco song... (it would be on their next album) Lol
He's a team player. Honestly, In that situation, I would probably dig my heels in. I have a ton of respect for Gene, because he doesn't take himself too seriously, and doesn't act like he is gods gift to music fans (at least not in the interviews I've seen, but I'm 35 so they were a bit before my time). Just by saying "we could hardly play our instruments" he paints a picture in my mind of some very regular guys who loved rock, and were having fun being as creative as they could be, and go figure...What they came up with appealed to regular folks everywhere. I don't see them as exceptional musicians (Ace is pretty good though) but I really appreciate the end result. Fun rock, great theatrics, and a devotion to fans rarely seen. Gene especially has a work ethic and a dedication that Ive never seen from another rock star. No entitlement detected.
You know I had that strange feeling Gene would say "I was made for Loving you" would be the one song he would grow to hate that would turn into Kiss' ultimate all time favorite song for Kiss fans. I fell in love with that song upon hearing it about 7 hundred million times on the radio. Because when I first heard it I couldn't stand that song myself. I'd always turn to another station when that song was on. But one day I didn't really want to turn away to another station and I just let the song play all the way through and it was then that I began to like which turned into love of the song. And it's the part that goes "Oh Ooo-wwooo-oh I can't get enough - I can't get enough" that keyboard section it's something about that part that strike a deep sensitivity in my soul. It sort of has a disco beat to it. Though it's hard rock & metal. But when it gets to that part it become like a sort of RnB-ish feel.
I wasn't surprised frankly ! When I listened to this song , it became one of my favorite songs until now and it raises my mood instantly !!! I've tried to find other songs, from '' kiss '' with the same amazing vocals and music and I found only one , most of them were just screaming and music as he said blasting . All of these I couldn't compare with '' I was born to loving you baby '' and I came to an idea , that the band hated this kind of songs. To me it's sad but nothing I can do .
George Schulz I’m not talking about the u.s charts, I’m talking about international Beth really only charted in the u.s for a few weeks, where I was made for loving you was a smash hit in about 20countries

I disagree, each one alone isn't all that great. But when you put them together that is where the talent is. It's the combination of them and each one of their talents enhances the others talent. We wanted to see and hear the best, and they gave us the best!!! The Best Rock n Roll Band in the World Kiiissss!!!!

Gene should be proud of "I Was Made For Lovin' You". Even after forty four years it still sounds great! Hits don't just happen with every song so when you get one like this be grateful!!
Not all fans respected that and some hate that song. I am one of those. Other than Crazy Crazy Nights, this is the worst song they have put out that was popular by non kiss fans.

It just amazes me how long they have been in the business. I went and saw them in the late 70s and I'm 55 now. They are still doing it. That's longevity!!!
gene seems like a pretty cool guy, would be pretty cool and fun to talk to, great business man too, funny also, i feel like the media and past members talk bad about him, it must have been hard being in a band when you have 2 guys who don’t party much and drink and 2 guys that do, i love ace and peter, that was the best era of kiss and i have respect for eric singer and tommy thayer, but i see why Kiss had to change, still one of the best artists of all time, i do agree that tommy and eric should have their own makeup but they rock though, might see them on this final tour next week in Indiana!
Ok there's a back story to "I was made for loving you " 78-79 during the height of the Casablanca records days...the main acts signed to Casablanca Records were Donna Summer, Village People,Brooklyn Dreams and Kiss...the were 3 recording studios in the Casablanca records offices... so it was common for all of the artists to interact often..in 79 Donna and her producer Giorgio Moroder were riding high off the success of the 'Bad Girls album...Gene Simmons and Donna Summer became fast friends.. Gene was dating Donna's best friend Diana Ross...Gene was invited to a party thrown at Giorgio Moroder's house...Gene ,Paul Stanley and their dates show up Gene and Paul started chatting it up with Moroder.....they began talking about doing an album together.. somehow...it never happened Casablanca Records Owner Neil Borgart rejected demo that came our of the Moroder/Kiss collaboration....eventually Moroder dropped out of the kiss project too focus on film soundtrack work He scored a huge hit with Blondies Debbie Harry "Call me"...Kiss was still Interested doing a dance orientated rock/disco Moroder was too busy with Donna Summer's projects and his new role as the soundtrack king the band hired Vini ponicni ...he had a young intern named Desmond Child. ...Desmond Child and Paul Stanley Co wrote I was made for loving you...it became a big hit the rest as they say is history
The only thing he would talk about would be himself. Search "Gene Simmons NPR", he was interviewed by Fresh Air and acted like ... Well, you'll hear if you check it out.
I loved gene since 1975 (I was 6, and will never forget seeing them on TV - Blown away when Gene Simmons marched out on stage in those boots!!) I had no idea how to find or what there music was - nothing I can recall until I was 9, and my buddies brother had Kiss Alive II…he gave it to me, to listen to at home. Bought my own, weeks later. We started our own cover band at 10 ( heheh just kidding, just stole moms Mary Kay makeup, two buddies and my brother, turned dads stereo speakers out our windows and performed Kiss Alive II to the neighborhood…with tennis rackets and picket fence loveseat as drums…gene Simmons spit up ketchup, ace jumped off roof into split leg landing..yeah that was cool. Had concerts every Saturday for a whole summer…I was so lucky growing up as I did. I am the luckiest human to have ever lived!
What most folks don't know is how much promo went into the "KISS" disco song!!! It had some really good production at the time. And I get what Gene really means. The folks that really like the song were fringe fans, who dug the beat. While me, a real fan, was happy to hear a KISS song on the radio!!!
I hated that song for such a long time, but over the years it’s growing on me. I got admit it’s a catchy tune and when you really listen to it as a fan, not a musician, it really rocks.
the first time I hear I made for loving you back in El Salvador. Went I was little boy. I still listen to that song now. it's take me back in time when life was beautiful. thank you

Gene was great back in the day. Their day is done. Paul was a better song writer. Neither could have existed without the other. Enjoy what it has been. 40+ years of rocking out!!!!
True that man and Paul is loseing his voice I think I read somewhere he had surgery or something wrong with his voice Im glad tbey are about to retire it's about time
I met Gene in Fresno Ca when he was promoting his perfume. He signed the bottle, and was sweet and charming. He’s so tall, smelled great and so relaxed. I also got a free kiss tshirt. A day I’ll always remember. I’ve met Billy Idol at 711 & Garth Brooks at Kmart. Garth mmm,he was so nice. I was 2nd in line at Kmart, and 1st in line at the Reba concerts. He remembered me, my boss said it was my legs. Hehe
I can’t believe how good looking Gene Simmons was when he was young. I watched a decades old interview here on RU-vid with Gene Simmons Paul Stanley and a former groupie on the Oprah Winfrey Show. He was reeeeeealy good looking, handsome guy.
