Doctor Who is filmed in Cardiff, where I live, but set in London. When I was watching this for the first time all I could think was: 'If you want to find a trap street in London it might help if you actually went to London.'
I love Rigsy and I wish he stayed as a companion after that. I think It would be nice to see this trio more in the tardis. I love how he adores Clara, and it would be nice to see their friendship more, and I wonder what happened to him after Clara sacrifices herself for him. They had such a great chemistry just in 2 episodes.
It just makes me pissed off since compared to a lot of others I enjoyed Clara as a character and wished I could have seen more of her, particularly more of 11 and her since she only got like half a season with 11.
The reckless way Clara acted here... it seemed almost like she hasn't gotten over Danny's death yet. It almost feels like she wants to die (but also couldn't bring herself to die for she knows this will break The Doctor's hearts).
I don't think she wanted to die. It is just at this point, the Doctor's personality had entirely rubbed off on her. But as this episode kind of points out, the Doctor is immortal and she's not, one day her risk taking was going to go too far
Face the Raven was a great episode! It has this great feeling. Clara's demise was so suspenseful. Perfect episodes, make more like this, heaven sent and the Zygon Invasion, Inversion.
It is really frustrating because I think they had the right idea at first "Clara is the companion who is too similar in personality to the Doctor and THAT is where conflict comes in" but it is like the writers changed their mind and decided she should be the bog standard "normal girl who maybe has a crush on the Doctor" until the second around "Flatline" where she resumed her initial personality and character arc, which was finally taken to its logical conclusion in Series 9. It was some baffling writing, but I remember the good episodes more than the bad ones now
@@hainsay I don't know, my working theory at the time was that Clara might have had a divisive response in Series 7A, the MPDG criticism was in vogue in the 2010s. But Clara's ability to match the Doctor's energy was what made her a unique character. Without that, she's bland AF in Series 7B. Series 8 and 9 mercifully returned her to the characterization we were promised in Snowmen.
I love this scene! I really loved the look of contemporary London in series 8 and 9! Felt really fresh and modern. The colour grading was incredible in series 9 and I think is one of the best looking series. Also imo a really underrated series.
What you call contemporary London is actually just the main streets of Cardiff - The Hayes, Westgate Street, St Mary Street, that area. You can even see the Cardiff Central Library in the background of the shot with the Doctor and the statue of John Bachelor..
I think there is a good spinoff idea for a series called Trap Street, based on the lives of aliens in hiding, trying to live together, and trying to blend or go unnoticed, and from the dangers they might face from the government forces, or the other aliens who might be looking for them.
I love the sound design of the TARDIS here, it's great to hear it making new sounds rather than just the ones we're familiar with - which are great btw. It really does sound like a powerful engine! Awesome! Would be brilliant to hear it more (and others alike) when the TARDIS is flying through space.
When the doctor mentioned reality having glitches, my screen glitched. And I'm not referring to ordinary buffering or lag: areas of my iPad screen actually started to glitch. That never happens.
@@AS-wk9gg I don't mind the flying diner, personally. Doctor Who has always been quirky - and it is no more ridiculous than a flying Police Box... I just think resurrecting Clara undermines her death in Face the Raven. If Steven Moffat has any weakness it is that he seem really reluctant to face death for any of his characters - this was fine when his stories contrasted with RTD - but as a show runner - it starts to really undermine the emotional arcs for the characters in the show. Nothing matters if nothing really changes, people never die, memories are never lost etc.
Being from Cardiff, it's impossible to think of this place as London. I've lived abroad for almost 5 years and it's so strange seing it again like this....
I just realised! Even when Clara and Me go back to Gallifrey, She'll still be alive, like the spin off on ITV where queen victoria is Clara, and Clara was in Emmerdale and she had a VERY brief cameo in captain america! #theimpossiblegirlstrikesagainandagainandagain
Whenever the companion gets reckless an overconfident is when they're "killed off" or permanently removed. Happened with Rose, happened with Clara. Basically, if you want to stay with the Doctor, to quote Han Solo, "don't get cocky."
Clara is out of place from 'normal' people who wear dark suits and scarves. What is it about her outfit that's so fitting? Collar, like a student. Light grey jumper, it's the type of thing a teacher would wear, it makes her stand out from the more serious-looking business crowd (which she walks straight through). The lace undershirt, for some nice texture contrast against the black leggings, which are fitting and good for action. And sneakers. High heeled, for JLC/Clara's height. Pretty casual. But smart. Why does she dress this way?
subbtopp Yeah; well, a very Neverwhere concept, as it predates hp by a year. Wonder what Neil Gaiman thought about it, actually, considering he writes for Who himself sometimes
I had a trap street moment on Friday. I was walking to a theatre with a few of my friends&family. They were chatting and I was singing/murmuring a song under my breath. A song I know all the words to. I walked past a building a floomf the lyrics went. Was confused. Let it pass. Later on I had to walk past the same building. Same thing happened. I was singing a different song but the lyrics just went out my head. Mind immediately went to a trap street and, I kid you not, I looked towards the gap and I swear to god I could see houses down there. Freaked me out completely and utterly. Next time I go down that street I am trying it again because it freaking scared me. What's the betting Moffat is an alien and passing on his knowledge of the universe via a sci fi show?!
To be honest, this is the first Series 9 episode was feels that was initially written with Clara. In others she seems to be put in the plot at the last minute.
It really is. As much as I liked Clara, she should have stayed dead in Face the Raven. Or even have left the TARDIS like she said she would at the end of series 8. Hell Bent ruined her ending. That, and it completely skimped over the Time Lords and Gallifrey's return. Not to mention that the Doctor murdered someone 'for her'...
But it happened. Her body still fell on Trap Street and from then onwards she's absolutely dead. Heaven Sent happened as a direct result of it. He extracts her from her own time stream because of that exact moment. Clara is well and truly DEAD (she just gets to be a walking, talking zombie in her own TARDIS for however long she chooses as a result). If you take Face the Raven - Husbands of River Song, it's one big character arc for The Doctor. He goes from the "man who doesn't like endings", recklessly pulling Clara out of time, to actively allowing his final night with River at the Singing Towers and accepting that everything has to end some time.
Hell bent was a delight that Clara was still out there at the end. The question remains, when she was splintered up to help all the Doctor's incarnations, did she also go to future regenerations?
as soon as I heard bout what happens in this episode when I first watched it when I saw Clara being all reckless I was like yep that's how they all end
