Artēsian well. The e is a long e where it says its name. An artesian well is generally deep into an old aquifer. A spring is fueled by rain water that has seeped down through layers of soil and rock. The spring water isn’t as old generally. A spring is harder to keep the water from being contaminated by surface water runoff. The artesian well, if the water tests clean with no metal or bacterial contamination, will still be your best water. Love that you rescued the pots.
Oh Wonderful, artesian water is the BEST. We had that at one of our houses we built. Luckily, building right next to a river solved the problem of what to do with it! Great find! Ginger from Michigan
My sister moved to Castello Branco, Portugal where she bought a huge piece of land. After cutting away all the growth we found a 65 meter tunnel (And water source) digged into the mountain. There where old rusty lanterns on shelves chupped into the rock and sitting area in the end of the tunnel. We have no idea what it was made for but the lanterns where well over 100 years old.
The clear glass container with plastic on top - a fermenting system for pickling and long term storage/use of garden veggies. Looks like the bottom part was just to make it more attractive although we ferment and pickle a lot of stuffs and enjoy looking through the glass to see the veggies! Looks like it’s in decent shape too! A save
Nelson is the Bomb! I have a mad crush on him because of his masculine skills! He truly is an earth artist! I hope he reads the comments and knows how many people appreciate his talents.
He IS an earth artist!! We LOVE that term! And, yes, he does read them ❤️ He was here to share a juice with us on Monday and told us how he takes the time to Google translate the comments so he can read them 🥹! You guys make his day tooooo ✨
I suggest you look into sending a sample of that quartz vein to an assay office to see if or how much gold it may contain. The orange stained mud is a iron sulfate and is common with gold ore as it rusts away and leaves the gold deposits laying in place.
Always LOVE sharing exciting discoveries like this one with you!! And how about that cool glass jug and what looks like a handmade ceramic pot we find at the end?! 🤯 Hoping to bring a nice refreshing smile to your beautiful faces on this summery Sunday 😘 xx Mr and Mrs A
maybe the glass bottle & plastic around was some simple filtration system to prevent small rocks & dirt into the glass bottle. The dirt would fall to the bottom of the plastic while the clean water would fill up the glass bottle???
That blue looks like Lapus Lazuli! It would be awesome if it was! The ancient Egyptians use to use it to make jewelry and they would also pound it to Paint blue on the hieroglyphs.
This land was waiting for you. No one else would do what you have. It's your conscious awareness of honoring the land and even a beetle to save it's life. I'm same way. I even save worms that get washed onto sidewalk from rain and can't get to safety. Worms are majical and very important. I'm just as excited to see your grotto as it was revealed. I can't wait to see your next video. It's all wonderful what you do. ❤
The water mine is such a great find. I'm sure Brittany will find some artistic way of displaying those old treasures and artifacts. Sounds like Drew is really getting good at communicating in Portuguese with Nelson. Love Nelson's stories of learning to swim in small ponds and how difficult & arduous it once was getting to the ocean.
It's a old fermentation jug for brewery wine or beer. My grandfather used one just like it. I still use that jug to make mead. The spillover and valve is in a place to remind of 3 generation of wine making.
A beautiful gift from Mother Nature , absolutely love hearing about days gone by in Portugal. It was so exciting to watch this being uncovered and the pots are wonderful , you are truly blessed to live there. The mill was waiting patiently for you two , have a lovely day x
Put an ice chest inside the water mill as a second refrigerator. When we would visit my grandparents in summer, they would put the ice chest without ice and watermelon in spring water to keep things chilled.
Nelson is absolutely a true gem. It's always wonderful to have someone that knows the culture and passes it on. That's the most important thing I believe is that you need to keep passing on the stories the cultures the maps the adventures from long ago. So happy for you guys sending you all much love. Great vlog as usual. Love you all😊
Nelson, Nelson, he's our man! If he can't do it no one can! Yay, Nelson!!! Guys! That cave, that spring! This is truly amazing. Wow! What a find! The Magic Mill is full of treasures! ❤ Lauren
It will be interesting to see if fall and winter rains provide enough of a boost to allow the spring to clear itself, flow better and remain healthy next summer. Thanks for all the time you guys put into the channel!!!
Im so happy you two found eavhothrt and the af be.ntures keep comming. Now a dog to explore with, good companion and great protector. Thanks for sharing!
I so love you both, such a caring young couple with nothing but gratitude for those around you,may the home you are creating always keep you safe and bring you joy
My grandmother only drank water from her fresh spring water. She had a 2 gallon glass jar that she would fill. That water was so cold, it would make your teeth hurt. My grandpa dug a hole about 2 feet wide and about 3 feet deep where the water flowed into it and put pea gravel in the bottom to keep the mud down. They kept a dipper hanging on a nearby tree to drink from when grandpa was in the fields working.
The sky view @0:40 is absolutely beautiful and the sun has already begun to rise. I live in St Louis, Missouri, in the USA and, ounce upon a time, I can remember seeing stars, in the night sky, as a child. I am now 72 and, greatly, miss it. Give thanks, for every minute, of night, when you can look up and see stars. 😁✌🖖
you've got a lot of history on your property - what an awesome homestead you've got and what all it will be when you are finished. So exciting.........love, mla
You two need about 4 dumps of sand in your pond, infact a really great series would be putting a spillway in and some block around the outside with a little cement coating.
Brittany, I saw on an Asian show where they had a grist mill stone that had a ‘trough’ across half of the surface of it. Attaching a waterspout, she used it to wash vegetables from her garden. I don’t know if any of your millstones might have that trough (I am certain Drew could chisel one), but it made a great fountain feature, as well as being practical. 😊
Planting pots for herbs! 😁. Looks like a mineral spring. It will stain your clothing.😢 Looks like a lot of iron, but it could just be clay- for more pots! 😉
How exciting finding that well and those old pots. Nelson is amazing and what a big help in excavating your land. Glad the snake was removed also from the lagoon. Yuck!! So happy your phone was okay….I was not sure it would work after being dropped in that mud.
I believe, that bottle you found was used for brewing "something". The bowl would catch foaming overflow, of the process, and the thing inside the mouth, of the bottle, is a one-way valve, to allow overflow out but no air, to get in. 😁✌🖖
I wonder if someone could do a rendering of how all the terraces and mill worked together. Obviously this area was used to grow produce besides just milling the wheat. I wonder if there were other small dwellings for laborers? There might be many artifacts laying around. Everything has been covered with vegetation and eucalyptus trees for so long. It feels like an archeology site with so much history. Fascinating.
Hi guys, love your videos! At 24min you guys have a 5 liter carboy (Garrafão in Portuguese) used to store wine, the white plastic on top is an old mold to make pudding, the kind you set without going to the oven, that someone put on the top! The part that fell off the carboy was a covering used so that the sun would not bleach the red wine, you have only the bottom but that would be another part on the top! In the old days it was made of wicker!
Stopping mid way in video to say Are you undermining the road by digging and taking away roots and brush that stabilizes the bank from your road? Biting my nails as I go back to video!
Artesian wells push water to the surface under pressure from Aquifers. Subtesian wells supply water from similar Aquifers but there is not enough pressure to reach the surface. I was sheep shearing in Queensland 30 years ago and near the shearing shed there was an Artesian well that supplied water at very high pressure and around 105 degrees Celsius from the very deep and colossal Queensland Aquifer.
Nelson is a blessing! Thanks for sharing your beautiful land. Such a beautiful job capturing the transformation…love it. I look forward to watching you.
Nelson is a rare find, it’s been a Hugh journey , the amount of work achieved is absolutely amazing, most of your trades people have been hard workers and very knowledgeable. The Ukrainian workers are Awsome. I look forward to every Monday morning in Australia to watch your updates. It’s been just over a year wow wow it’s been a lot. See you both on Monday
The frogs were making ababy too Britt... i can see Britt doing yoga in the grotto OXOOXOXO Yur exhitment is just contagious love seeing you exlpore and reveal the treasures of your Portugal Paradiso OXOOXOOXO
That’s a wine jug, I believe! My parents were born in Portugal and wine-making is a part of the culture! My Dad even made wine here in the States for many, many years!
Yes, likewise with my grandparents and my parents with respect to the winemaking. I think most Portuguese brought with them their habits and customs from Portugal when they came to the US.
You should You should clean behind the camera Van and where you've found that mind to make it more where you can see the parts of the mountain. And make. It better for the spring to run
Hello! Well the mysterious plastic it’s only part of an old big wine bottle, you can still find similar ones in old grocery stores in small villages. Sorry to disappoint you. But you should check on that blue rocks in the cave. Best of luck for all you projects!❤
Grotto spring. Some old pottery. Possibly a water glass bottle with sand filter? More future lanscaping projects by the grotto, retaining wall, from the mill to the triangular piece of land. As Nelson was cleaning out the small pool, I would have taken the opportunity to increase its size.
Please take a black light in that cave because that look like it has fluorescent rocks! What is the blue that I’m seeing? How exciting just to have that to show people and maybe help people downstream have water also if it’s good source. lucky you ,have a blessed week! Please have that little tiny clay pot, and all the others brought out and take it to the historical place to see if it’s hand formed and possible age.❤️
Great work. You too are so lucky. Take care of my beautiful country of birth and it will take care of you. Blessings to you from Canada. Love your videos Health, happiness and joy.
What an awesome discovery! Nelson is the best! Wow the things he finds! And the history of the area he can teach you two about is such a special thing!
Rhinoceros Beetles are so cool, I used to see them in Texas and even have 2 specimens in my freezer so that the grand kids can take them to show and tell at school 😊
I think you should test the water mineral to see if it is good to drink, I am sure it is good for plantation. your pool needs some gravel to stay clean water. when you dive, please check your spring minerals. I hope you guys don't have mercury in that stones.
Absolutely incredible finds!! It’s wild that you found intact glass and pottery pieces in your water mine! Thrilled for you guys to have another water source on your property!! Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
This transparent glass object used to be a wine jug, it had a coating that wrapped around it where a handle was located to hold the jug. It was made of wicker, just like the baskets used during grape harvesting, but before plastic became popular. The jugs had a cork stopper at the top of the neck. As for this aluminum thing, it is a cake mold, the batter goes inside it to be baked in the oven.
Sooo cool finding all those clay pots. And that new water find, you have to remember farms and properties above you guys are losing water as you guys keep digging. And as cool as it looks digging away land you should remember that you have a drive path above and may weaken the dirt and may start to lose its strength. But love your videos that’s for sure.
Haha, wondering who’s hovering in the background of the grotto excavation…then I remembered you saying your dad always wears button down shorts. Phew 😂 Ooh Nelson, you’re tracks! I love my job…but I hate shovelling tracks…which I suppose yours aren’t so bad since it’s still at the moister stage…idea is either bone dry or sloppy wet. Super cool finds in there and the map!
That water cave was a wonderful find & Nelson did such a great job as usual …. what a great friend!! 👍🤩 Love your land it’s full of surprises Britt & Drew take care until next time! 💜💙🇦🇺🐨🍻
What a amazing find and hopefully you will get plenty of water from it. Last video you mentioned how your mum and dad just wanted help the both of you, just because they wanted to. We as a family help each other doing whatever it maybe because that’s what we do so do not understand why some families don’t think the same way. You see on tv etc families struggling with building projects etc and I often thought where are the families or friends to help if they can. Anyway a big 👍🏻 thumbs up to Nelson and what a incredible nice man he is and a great asset to you both.😀😀
