That was totally a nice idea to leverage the cable’s capacitance per unit length. Didn’t help me salvage the long cable (my open was in the middle) but a great trick to keep in the toolbox, thanks.

in all cables i repaired except for one, the jack plug wasn't connected to the core anymore. so not a broken cable but a bad solder joint

I've been repairing a lot of cables. I had a couple problems with an open circuit somewhere around the cable. I think this problem is not common but it exists.

Hi Nik I’m wondering if the additional cable that you m connected to the ground was as well connected to the ground on the other connector ? I know that, in guitar circuit they create ghost ground to reduce hum I.e in an LP if you want to reduce noise from the selector to the main circuit, you can have an additional cable that is ground to the selector and twisted around the main core but not connected to the ground at the main circuit.

Yes, the additional ground wire is connected on both sides. I really can't understand why it exists...

why would a guitar cable use solid wire as its core ? Most are stranded i think

I can't explain. And more -solid cables are prone to fault more than the cores with multiple wires.

So you will break it and buy a new one, lol - I have solid core silver interconnects connecting my pre-amp to my mono blocks in my stereo, and I prefer the sound of solid core to stranded, but it makes no sense in a guitar cable... Was considering buying their XLR mic cables, but this changed my mind...

I bought a vovox cable 200euros for a bass at 120euros. You think i am crazy? XD I think it's better than buy a 400 euros bass with a 20euros cable.
