Did you study for a PhD? If so how did you fund it? Mine was a Physics PhD that came with a studentship!

hello dr CST, I am currently searching for a phd in Pharm D and cannot find funding. I am looking at a uni in UK but again am unsure of where and how to get funding. Do you have any suggestions?

I am fron Spain lokking forward into full funded PhD in STEAM in the uk. I came across with a project that has annual stipend of £19,237. It is this enough to live in Manchester or I need to find a part-time job?

Pursuing Math Ph D with positive direction can continue beyond more + years given more opportunities even being an adult adult in certain remote barangay of a country. Thanks so much for the good idea you present. Gracias again.

Thanks Caroline, probably worth also mentioning CDTs (Centre for Doctoral Training) as programmes of study with funding. These seem to be increasing in popularity at the moment. These also have the advantage that you progress as a cohort through the PhD which I think is a great idea.

Good day Dr., kindly clarify: Does having PhD admission to a UK university increase your chances of getting a scholarship from external sources? If so, can you please suggest some? Thank you.

Some scholarships you apply for with the university being listed as the host i.e. if you get it the university will then host your PhD. Other times you get the PhD place first and can then apply for scholarships. Some PhD's will come with an offered stipend (like a salary) - and the student may also apply for a scholarship if they wish. It is best to look at the different uni websites to see what they offer.

I am loving the channel. It is super helpful. I have just been accepted on a full time Msc and I will be looking at PhD studies further in my academic career. Thanks for all these videos. Very interesting and a great help for anyone starting out a return to study.

Thank you! Super helpful, as usual! In preparing PhD applications, there are usually reference letters too. I wonder whether it is okay to ask former professors to write reference letters for multiple PhD applications/scholarships. I'm hunting for PhD opportunities at the moment. And I feel bad for asking my former professors to write me a reference letter again and again :')

Academics know that a part of the job includes writing reference letters, so I would keep politely asking. In my experience the key thing is to ask professors who know your work (personal tutors, project supervisors etc), give details of the PhD you are applying for and try to give the academic as much time as possible to write the reference. All the best for your PhD search and thanks for watching 😀

As always a very beneficial and enjoyable talk on some of the important questions students often have. These are questions I often get asked myself by my MSc students and It is good to have some informal and intuitive resources to send them to look at! :)

I thought it was common knowledge that phd's are government funded in the uk nowadays
@DrCST
@DrCST 2 года назад
Yes lots are - the government finding is sometimes routed through Doctoral Training Centres, via the research agencies, or individual university departments can offer financial studentships. All have their own competitive processes to apply for. In STEM it's also quite common for part government/part industry funding options too 😀

@@DrCST Hi, No, I mean all phd's are funded directly through student finance/government scheme, nowadays.
