Adding to that, if you want to save multiple files of recorded material: copy + paste every selected sample to new track. Once you're done, delete source track and export the project to multiple files (file menu). Saves a bit of time. Also "Z" button is your friend, it's for correcting selection to zero-points.
I would generally look for low bg noise at source but some minor artifacts are ok as its not always obvious in the mix, and sometimes even complementary in its rawness! I might eq slightly (e.g. cut bass if bassy or boost upper if needed) but thats it
