Priorities changed for Laura and Eric Wills as their daughter grew up and focus shifted away from homesteading projects balanced with technology careers. Laura’s many gardens also evolved in response to water resources and weather calamities. Eric transitioned to garden art metalworking. When the CTG team headed over in late April, Laura told us, “One thing I've found with the garden is it should always bring you joy. So, when something isn't, then you switch and do something else.”

Love her philosophy about growing what works for you. This has been such a challenging year for edibles but my peach trees are staying, at least the one that’s produced. I’m finding mixing flowers into food production spaces makes those areas more joyful to spend time in. And those ocotillos….I’m obsessed! We went to Big Bend last fall after a wet spell and they were all green and blooming…I wanted one so badly. But the metal ones would be easier to be around without all the thorns for sure. Those are gorgeous.

Good advice at the end. No edibles? Really? I suppose they can be disappointing. Love all your perennials, though. They are gorgeous 😍
