I would LOVE to see a video completely dedicated to creating some of the DIYs from the 70’s craft book, and an added bonus is they’d all match the vibe of your home!
Id suggest adding a metal bowl with water on top of the wood stove to add some humidity to the room. My family does that and it helps with the dryness which will inevitably hurt your beautiful monstera!
Agreed, my family had a cast iron kettle that sat on our wood stove for the same reason. I have also seen metal fans that sit on top, that the heat of the stove activates, and it helps to move the warmed air though your room.
Becky, I graduated from High School in 1979. My parents built a house in 1976. They put in two wood burning stoves almost exactly like what you and Austin just installed. I’d say that’s ‘70’s styling!
There are cool cast iron humidifiers made to work with the fireplace... dragons, trains a moose! A good place to start is Plow & Hearth, we've had ours for 20+ years. Also this looks amazing!!
Awesome. I had one similar when I lived in the mountains. Still needs to have a bit of wood during the night and to make the morning toasty. The extra tile will give you a place to add wood for the day an a place to empty the ash. Another nurse who worked at the same hosp started a fire by putting live embers in the bucket, so be safe with that. (she was home so the fire was contained, whew 😮) Enjoy
Oh my goodness Becky that wood stove and that tile are the perfect combination. I also love that huge Monstera and you are correct in cleaning off the leaves, plants need to be able to photosynthisis. I also love that diaco ball that is the coolest. I love that book that someone gave you, and I love things from the 70's because I grew up then and do love vintage things. I would really love to see some DIYs from that cool book. Also adding a container with water and some speces makes the room havee more humidity and gives it a really cool smell throughout that area. when I use my woodburning stove I put a metal container with spices in the water and it makes my house smell really nice, cloves or cinnamon or other spices work, like potpourri. Thanks so much for this wonderful video that was so fun watching. Have a great day, sending love and hugs, bye! 🤗😍💜💜💜💖👋👍
I paused video to say option a based on the existing flooring & the purpose of what the tile is for. OK, I am back, and after seeing the amount of space for the tile in front of the fireplace, I agree that option b is best. I thought the tire area was going to be much smaller originally. Beautiful job, Becky & Austin. I love how you work together to personalize your home to both your style. The opening scene was hilarious. Thanks for sharing & I look forward to more home renovation content & crafts & DIY.
Since you picked the glossing tile but prefer it matte, I have great news. It's under a fireplace so it will probably almost never be clean! Firewood dust and ash will give you that lovely matte look 😀
Though I love your replacement I really loved the original 😕 It’s still amazing though. It’s a shame there is so many rules when even having just the simple wood burner fireplace. In England they are trying to ban them altogether. I loved your video Becky 🤍
Great job, love the color of the tile and grout that you picked out! But, on the practical side, why didn’t you style it with the wood pile? Are you really gonna walk the wood pieces across the room every time you have to fill the stove? I am sure a lot of us would love to see how you would style a wood pile for the stove because we all have the same challenges with keeping the wood near the stove and making it look good. I know you can do it, Becky!
I loved it so much❤ i loved the vibes and how well finished it is but i think maybe it would look a little bit better if the tile was for the hole corner ,maybe ,idk
Okay, i know Becky didn't like the glossy originally, but all i could think is how much easier it would be to clean ash and little bits of bark off of a glossy tile. Ash is SUCH a pain to get off of anything matte! Tbh, I'm worried about how light that grout color is. Dont get me wrong, it *looks* fantastic, but that's going to be so difficult to keep clean! Idk, i guess I'm more of a function over form person ^^'
I had to giggle when you talked about the "feature" of the record player was its ability to drop another record on top when the first was finished. that's the only kind I ever had! Wood stove and tile work look great, i'm a bit worried that mr. monstera is a tad too close. It may be tropical but that means humidity too. put a kettle filled with water on top of your wood stove to create some tropical air :)
I had a wood burning fireplace like the one you wanted - it was cute but we couldn’t use it because it didn’t funnel out smoke at ALL! it was as useful for heating as your electric one because we couldn’t safely have fire. Hopefully this makes you feel better about not getting your dream fireplace!!
Please put a humidifier behind your monstera. It is a little dry looking and I think it is a bit hungry. I live in the tropics and they grow outside. They have thinder storms and rain and so much humidity. Awesome fireplace and poof seat please.
Yes please do some projects from that book! I think that we all have books like that from our moms collections! Also, are we going to see the team tour your place?
Now take a old pan or teapot (leave lid off when heating an put water & old perfumes or essential oils in it (adjust drops to you) it's a great wax warmer also. Makes the house smell lovely without over doing it. Note on essential oil look up any not good to be used around your dog. I love just using vanilla or cinnamon powder/stick in my pan.
Good job getting a stove from an expert store. Stay away from Home Depot for that stuff if you have a big house. Trust me. Also great job getting a WETT certification for a DIY job!! Amazing!
Just had an idea popped to make it look like your dream fireplace : why don't you DIY a sheet of metal (or re-use your electric fireplace) to go AROUND the firestove, to give it that mid-century rounded shape ? :O And paint it black to match the pipe
I’m undecided between option A or C. I like the color of option B but don’t like the glossy finish at all. Edit: oh, yikes. I still don’t like the tile, even installed. I would do that de-glossing asap. The styling of the corner looks great though and I’d rather have a fireplace than not.
I could be wrong but I thought there was also another layer of heat protection fabric or other material that had to go under tiles before they are laid on wood? I thought ceramic tiles on wood alone might get too hot? Am I wrong?
My grandma has that EXACT fireplace in her basement and when she sells its getting taken out!!! I will not let some basic Live Laugh Lake Life lady remove her!!! Also we live in a lake town, btw lol
