The weather has remained beautiful over the last few days, although the waves on the "other side of the light house" were a little too rough to find much over there. In the end, I did find a few really interesting shells; some old, some fresh, but all together it was lovely day. Thank you so much for watchin'!
Let me know which ones were your favourites ;D and if you enjoyed this and want to see more shell finding videos, I'd appreciate a like or a comment. I read all of them and try to reply when I can. You have no idea how much of a smile you guys put on my face. Thanks everyone!

G'day everyone! Wow, you're actually reading the description? Um, thank you! You will be rewarded with extra content... my Facebook page (link above) is loaded with out-takes and deleted scenes that don't make it into the RU-vid videos. Check out the extra funsies over there if you're desperate for more shelling content ;D

I didn't even realise that Point Cartwright and the surrounding beaches had such lovely seashells until I saw "Shellcade Shelling Down Under" - I admired him a lot, and you can check out his videos here:

Hi Maddie, Your winter is way warm compared to ours. I like the Orange Drupe like everyone else. Arabian Cowrie lovely too. Take care and be careful out there. Oh last of 90's today. Yay. XXOO TRUDY

G'day Trudy 👋🏻💖 Oh yes, I live in a very tropical area, so there's no chance of a snowy cold winter here. For me though, even my warm winter temperatures feel cold to me in relations to our extremely warm and humid summers. I still like the temperature most of them time though...The shells like it too! I'm hoping for more goodies this winter; fingers crossed that there are still some left over for me after this bout of winter school holidays! Thanks for watching 🥰

G'day Mary Ann 👋🏻🏖️ The Hebrew Cone was a really nice one this time! Sometimes I wish I found the bigger cone species more often...but they're the really toxic ones, so maybe I'm actually ok with not seeing more of them!! The drupes are pretty cute; I would collect them all day if I could! Aww thank you, I had a lovely and relaxing weekend; I hope you also had a lovely few days before another week started 😄 Thanks for watching 🥰

Good afternoon, Maddie The worm cone, music cone, bubble shell, all the cowries, limpit, the drupe shell, captin cone, the deer cowrie, Hebrew cones, snake-head, the military turban is cool, wow how big is the Arabian cowrie. Thank you for another great shelling adventure. Have a wonderful day, Maddie As always, an uplifting video. I needed that today.

G'day Toni 👋🏻💖 This was an interesting adventure; not a heap of super gem shells, but the finds were varied and often enough that it was fun to hunt for them! They cone shells were really lovely; it's been nice to find more of them again lately. That Military Turban... I thought it was the same size as the one I got from a hermit crab a few weeks ago, but it's actually quite a lot larger!! I didn't realise how small Mr Crabbie's one was!! The Arabian was cool, though I actually gave it to a couple who were shelling nearby when I finished up; I hope they liked it!! I hope you are well today, or at least not feeling too bad. Thanks for watching 🥰

Hi Maddie, I hope you are well. That little jingle was cute. What is fungus amongus?😂 don’t answer that😂😂😂😂so interesting seeing that live cowrie. Whoa! That military turban was a great size.😮 Love the orange drupe shell, a favourite. Your top favourite, the Hebrew cone was a lovely shell too. G'day Alison 👋🏻💖 I'm doing pretty good, but I think you sent some rain to me from the UK...we don't usually have winter rains here, so it's obviously your fault 😉 and obviously with all that rain, you know exactly what fungus amongus is 😂!! Oh right, those Military Turbans can get quite large, so I think this one still had some room to grow! The Orange Drupe was a fun one as well, I've been blessed with a few of them lately, same with the cone shells as well. Ohhh "very choice" - I like that!! Thank you so much for joining me on these beach adventures 🥰

High Maddie 👋 Another very interesting and rich findings 🤩 an interesting Notocochlis cernica, seems not frequent . For same reason , even somewhat faded, Palmadusta humphreysii , a nice Conus musicus and the auger Duplicaria bernardii, also very satisfying mitre Strigatella aurantia. The lot as well the moments spent with you and Queensland, just amazing ❤❤❤ Francesco

G'day Francesco 👋🏻🏖️❤️ You are correct, any Notocochlis cernica is a bit of a rarity here; a shame because they're very pretty little shells 🐌! In this adventure, there was a lot of somewhat old shells like the Palmadusta humphreysii, but they still looked nice. The Strigatella aurantia was nice though, they're a little uncommon to see here 😁 As always, thank you so much for watching 🥰

Thank you so much for identifying the Shiva’s Eye as an operculum. I’ve lived in SE Florida, USA my whole life. Used to find them as a kid. We have lots of Shark Eye moon snails here and some turbans also. Tried to look those up by description with no luck. Thanks!
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 2 месяца назад
G'day Sonflower Gems 👋🏻🏖️ Ohhhh I'm so glad that I could help with that 🤩 it can be hard to identify the things that wash up at the beach sometimes, especially if everyone calls them by a different slang name...like the "Gaudi Nautica" moon snail 🐌; I was sent one of those, and it took me 30 minutes if researching to actually find the scientific name for it because Gaudi Nauti is a slang some somewhere other than the internet research pages 😅😂 but back to the Operculums! Yep, they are sometimes called Shiva's Eyes of Cat's Eyes 👀 but these round, white things are Operculums from some kind of Turban snail (oh gosh, I can't remember which Turban species it is from Florida). You can also find thin, brown Operculums that some from Whelks, Moon Snails, and Tulip shells, I believe, but I think they get swallows up by the ocean more often than not 🌊 I don't have any luck finding Operculums for my moon snails and tritons/whelks snails here, unless they're still alive! Anyhoo, thanks for watching 🥰

Hey! When you take rocks/seashells the hermit crabs and crabs don’t get many seashells to crawl in. So they resort to bottle caps, glass/plastic bottles, and more. Those are toxic and can kill the delicate crabs! When you see a seashell, it’s okay to pick up. But don’t keep it because think of the hermit crabs, they want to live too! So when you’re done please put it back. It’s unfair seeing them having to use trash everyday until the point that they die because the toxic plastic and glass. Even if it’s rare or special. We get a warm house and roof over our head and cooked food and water to drink. But the crabs need shells for a shelter. And they want a nice life. Please save the hermit crabs! They will be super happy and thankful! ❤️
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 4 месяца назад
G'day Arian 👋🏻 Please rest assured that the hermit crabs here have a lot of shells to choose from; they do not decide to take trash as their homes because the shells are extremely plentiful where I live. I have never seen a hermit crab with a trash home, it simply doesn't happen here, so it is okay, ethical, and legal to take an empty shells from this beach. I know that one beach all the way in Japan has some crabs that choose plastic bottles caps, but I believe it is still unknown why they choose those homes, or if they are indeed as toxic as you claim. Please remember that hermit crabs are opportunistic and actually fairly choosy about their homes. The ones I see here will usually choose the brightest or most interestingly textured homes, but will change for a new one withing 3-30 minutes if a new one catches their eyes, sometimes multiple times per day or per week. It is possible that the plastic bottles that you speak of are just more interesting than a seashell to them, but as always, they will change when their mood changes. This one beach in Japan, I believe, is being researched regarding these hermit crabs that like to choose trash homes, but the results of that study have not concluded, so you don't really have much information to back up your claims. Again, this beach HERE (not in Japan) is plentiful with shells, no hermit crabs are wearing trash, so you do not need to worry so much. I am not affecting the ecosystem by shelling in such a way that I'd ever put it in danger 😉 thanks for watching...I really hoped that you did watch this adventure, rather than preaching your views to me without fully understanding the situation where I live, how the ecology works here, or having more information to back up your views. As for real information, I think driving a car, buying mass produced goods, etc, damages the environment many times more than anything I can possibly do with a few shells in my pocket, so maybe consider that before you worry about the crabs at the beach. Your safe, warm, well lit home is worse for them than shelling. This is how the world is. Let me enjoy some time at the beach with my shells, ok?

@arianguyen4935 4 месяца назад
Sorry! I just was worried about the nice and lovely crabs that could have been harmed. Thank you for telling me it is safe! Good day to you Maddie!
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 4 месяца назад
Thank you for understanding. A few months ago, a certain RU-vid channel released a video with hermit crabs in Japan in plastic bottle caps; there wasn't much information within the video other than one man's perspective regarding how terrible it is...I don't think he really considered why the hermit crabs might want to choose the rubbish instead of shells, or even studied how many shells they do/don't have access to; he just decided it was "wrong". Yes, I do understand why it's bad to have rubbish in the environment, and I do think it's nice that he offers them seashell homes to change into. However, since that video was released and got millions of views, I have had very rude/irate people tell me that I'm basically a bad person for "stealing" homes (they're assuming that the crabs own every shell at the beach?) and that I should entirely cease this hobby that is my life's passion and brings me so much joy. They base this entirely off of a short three minute video they saw about hermit crabs in a place half way across the world, rather than any real information or even thinking about how nature has been moved aside for every aspect of our lives that we take for granted. I usually don't reply and just block them, but I really appreciate how gentle, kind, and thoughtful you by comparison with your words and tone. Again, thank you for understanding. I guess I was sensitive about this, and more than a little abrupt and defensive with you, so please forgive me for that. Thank you for being a genuinely good person 🙏🏻

G’day Alli 👋🏻🐚 You are not alone! A lot of people (including myself) struggle with identifying different kinds of shells. Cone shells have such a variety of patterns and colours, even within the same species, that it can be difficult to tell them apart. In the end, you either need to collect them all the time to get better at telling them apart, or just enjoy shells without feeling like you need to know the names 😉 we don’t need names to love shells, so we?? I’m just a nerd 🤓😂 Thanks for watching 🥰

How do you know cones are safe to pick up.
@SandCoffeeRocks
@SandCoffeeRocks 3 месяца назад
G’day Di 👋🏻🏖️ Shhhh I was maybe a little reckless this time 😅? So, there was a decent chance that the large Hebrew Cone wasn’t too safe to pick up, but generally: if the cone shell isn’t stuck to a rock or the ground, then it’s probably not inside (or it’s dazed), and it’s more okay to pick up. Additionally, if it has no periostracum, it might be empty because the snail is no longer there to put it on the shell. When I pick up a cone, I grab the thick, non pointy end; the pointy end is where a live cone snail has its harpoon stinger. Please note: if it was one of the highly toxic cone species, I would not pick it up with my bear hands. Finally, if I don’t see a snail or stinger inside, when I know it’s empty. It’s hard to know for sure when you reach down and grab a shell, but thankfully too: cone snails aren’t aggressive to humans, so they generally won’t sting you unless you’re being silly about handling them. I hope that kind of answers your question? Thanks for watching 🥰

Although I have been having some really wild dreams😆,which I don’t mind as long as they are not spooky😂👍.And I will hopefully go on picnics soon with my class friends too.🥰🫶Yeahh Hong Kong is a great city with great sceneries but sadly not many seashells wash up to the shore as much as they used to!🥲 I wish they would come back🥹//Wowwee then I hope you’ll find some glossy cowries I’m sure they’ll be spectacular too🤩🩷 It’s always lovely to read your heartwarming replies!! stay safe too,see ya🥰👋

@@luvselenaa11editor26 I think people dream a lot when they have a lot of things on their mind 🤔 hopefully it will calm down now with the end of your exams! Oh wow, picnics sound lovely; you’ll have to take something yummy to share…like sandwiches or cupcakes? Hmmm, maybe that just what I want to eat right now 🤣? A big shame that the shells aren’t really around Hong Kong’s beaches, but it’s not unexpected with the amount of city development on the coastline 🥲 You’ll find them one day; I’m sure they’re somewhere, and a big trip when you’re older might be all you need to have a crazy shelling adventure 🐚 Can you believe I want to go in a big shelling trip to Western Australia when I’m a little older too? Travelling is hard even when you’re an adult 😅😉 we’ll get there someday.
