In the fall after the first frost shows up I start to find these along gravel roads up in the woods. These were in town at our soccer field on a side gravel access road.
I love shaggy manes but rarely find them when they're fresh or in places I'd want to collect them from. They seem to love to hang out directly next to roads and trails.
