Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Hello from Michigan, U.S.A. The beautiful scenery and bird's songs are amazing. Even the sounds of the wind helped me imagine how it feels to be there. And Jack, he adds a whimsical energy that reminds me how dogs experience life in the "here and now ". This video is pure enjoyment. So happy I found your channel!
Oh My !! Such Beauty from the Country to the City !! As well as The Two of You❤️! Jack I So Adorable ❤️‼️ Thank You Both for Sharing with us!! Shirley from Western Colorado USA
Lovely to see you both in the video, beautiful scenery and great flint finds Sarah and Willie. Great drone work Willie, and wonderful poses from Jack. Thanks for the museum tour too!
@@dirtysecretsofscotland Jack sure is one water loving, fun loving dog and so adorable. If there's a drop of water within a mile of him I'll bet he will be in it. What an interesting and beautiful historical place you were exploring in this video.
This trip was interesting. It looks like it would be a hard place to make a living. However, it is beautiful. Thank you for this educational video. Jack always enjoys himself on these trips. He doesn't understand why you are so interested in rocks and stuff when he is around. My father had an arrow head made out of quartz. He bought it; so, I never felt that it was real. I find red/brown flint pieces in my driveway (which has limestone gravels). It appears that flint can be found in limestone. Where I used to live, we found large chunks of natural yellow/brown flint. It was where three bodies of water met (Triplett Creek, Dry Creek, and Mill's Branch). My father found arrowheads as he was plowing the fields with a mule when he was young. Where three bodies of water meet is usually where Native Americans settled, lived, and traded, They had to have water to live; and; streams were used for transportation.
My dad actually taught flintknapping here in Montana, I asked him to make me an arrowhead made with quartz. In order to get it to flake properly he had to heat it and it still was not a very historically accurate arrowhead. It sure was pretty though! There is a lot of chert in Scotland that makes excellent arrowheads.
Stunning finds in a stunning location. Some years ago, my friend and I had a permission in yorkshire for metal detecting. We found objects from the neolithic, worked flint on the surface, roman and medieval finds also. Obviously this site had been occupied for thousands of years. All recorded via PAS. As you do. We'll done. Really enjoyed this video, a refreshing change!
That was a fantastic adventure. 😄 To answer your first question...I think they're bridge posts. It's too coincidental them being lined up so well and just under the new bridge. The "rare panting beetle" was hysterical, loved it. 😂 I enjoyed the new tune you composed just for this video. 🎶 The wild horses were an amazing sight! I'm also liken the lichen. The trip to the museum was the perfect ending to a great video. That's so cool to think that you found something that old and now it's in a museum...too cool! Thank you for this wonderful video, it was so much fun and great to see all three of you together. 😉
Amazing feedback - thanks! I agree - got to be posts from the original bridge - preserved by the cold, clean water of the river. Glad you liked Jack and I's beetle joke! Happy too that you liked the new tune - it needed something rather grand to match the footage on screen, so glad it has connected! The horses were so beautiful, just wandering over the plateau - not sure they even noticed us! The lichen is exactly my kind of humour - happy you liked that one too! And amazing to find such wonderful artefacts and for others to see them from their homes, and hopefully in the future behind glass in a museum display! We had a fantastic adventure - very happy you could join us - albeit though a screen. A pleasure to share. Also - it was great to not have to shroud the location in secrecy - a first for this channel. Willie :)
Willie and Sarah, What a cool video!!! Thank you for taking us along. The information that you shared was fantastic, knowledge is power. The scenery is breathtakingly stunning as is the old house with living bushes growing on the roof. I hope the flint is so old that the museum keeps your finds for their exhibit. Also thanks to Jack for the entertainment and just being cute. Take care and stay safe. Willie I thought it was so cool when you asked Sarah if she had a problem with you bringing home the skull and antlers.Take care and stay safe.✌
Hi Debra - thanks! It was a lot of work making this one, so I'm pleased that you enjoyed it - it makes it all worthwhile! I would be delighted if the museum do display our finds - I guess we'll find out in due course. However, it will take a while for them to get back to us. Often it takes years, unfortunately..! Jack is certainly both entertaining and extremely cute! :) I hope you have a great week - you take care too. Willie :)
Hello Sarah, Willie and Jack Spaniels. What a beautiful place and quite relaxing. The new music is soothing and it appears that the family had a very enjoyable outing. I loved it all. Thank you for inviting me along. P. S. you sound nothing like Sarah. Greetings from North Carolina U.S.A.
Oh WOW Willie & Sarah, what a fantastic video! The area was beautiful and loved the old house. Jack rambled about with glee. As always, off to see Sarah. Cheers, John.
Thanks John - glad you enjoyed this adventure! Nice to try something a bit different. Jack definitely enjoyed himself for sure! Hope you enjoyed Sarah's hike and painting this week too. Willie :)
Fantastic video! A really interesting change of pace. Jack Spaniels clearly in his element, don’t think we ever saw his tail stop wagging. And Willie your voiceover skills are second to none, particularly when overdubbing Sarah! 😂
Gorgeous landscape. Thank you for taking us on your adventure. Jack is such a handsome boy. The stills of Jack, exuding his enormous love are beautiful day treasures. Keep taking photos and videos of him, you'll never have enough. That's a pic of Buddy, in my avatar. He passed over last Christmas. His grandmother, Sweet Bliss, passed this April. Heartbreaking and so unfair when they cross over, we are not given enough time together.
I love how Jack knows when you are both talking to camera rather than him 😂 Good that Sarah let you keep Brian and those flint chips are cool. Oh, and your Sarah impression was spot on 😂
Hi Richard - yup - he's used to his humans talking to curious little boxes instead of him from time to time! Sarah has just about forgiven me for the voiceover! Haha! Willie :)
That cottage is so beautiful and so sad at the same time. I love the aerial shots of the plateau, for some reason they make it easier to imagine ancient peoples living there. Fascinating video! Well done on the pipe find Sarah. You guys are so funny.......Brian 🐑 😂💗 x
Hi Amanda - yeah - I know what you mean. It could be a really lovely little home for someone and then I wonder about the people that left and where they went... I really wanted to get lots of shots from above on this - and it seems that was the right choice. It makes it much easier to connect with, seeing it all. Glad you enjoyed another adventure! Brian, will no doubt be featuring again..! Willie :)
That’s a nice change with so much to see. I really enjoyed your music and I’m happy you remembered Brian before you left. Hope he gets a good place to hang around. To avoid bleach I use borax to clean some of the things I find. What a beautiful place!
SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP!!! This was a totally EPIC (deep voice) find! Great job Sarah, Jack Spaniels, and Willie!!! To think your hands are the FIRST to touch that flint in THOUSANDS of years is astonishing! WOWZER! You certainly dis NOT disappoint Willie. *high fiving ya* AND doing the belter boogie 🎶
Thanks so much Tammara!! We love that you appreciate the amazing finds as much as we did. Mind-blowing timescales. Also - yes Willie is available for any dramatic voiceover work that comes along..😂👍
@@dirtysecretsofscotland I love the Jack Spaniels song for this treasure hunt and you BOTH did the belter boogie 👏 I know, I'm an odd duck. But simple woman with simple pleasures 🤣
Fantastic trip! Jack reminds me of a toddler with all the energy and innocence of exploring. Beautiful place. Thanks for the education and being part of such beauty!
A beautiful place to explore out there. Jack having fun as usual and trying to be the center of attention when ever Sarah is taking a pic of something. I love your music Willie. Cool seeing the horses out there. Your videos are always a joy to watch.
Great video. The museum didn't want Brian? I enjoyed seeing all the stuff, the cottage, the broch, the horses and the treasures. Loved the voiceover😂. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Karen - I'll take him back there in 12,800 years and see if they'll take him then.. ;) Seems this video has been quite well received - which is great! Nice to try something a little bit different! Sarah's just about forgiven me for the voiceover! Haha! A pleasure to share! Willie :)
I live in West Virginia, USA, and I have Scottish Ancestors. Enjoyed the walk and your information was very interestiing to me. I love Nature. Its very Spiritual. I am now 79 yrs old and not able to walk much as I lose my breath. I subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more walks with you both & Jack. ✌️❤️🙏🥰
This was fun! I love museums. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful country's history. It's things and places like these that most of us Americans might not see. The landscape is spectacular. Love to see the exhuberance that Jack has. He brings me much joy. 🌻😊🐕🇺🇸
What a gorgeous place! Does the mouth of the river silt up with the sand? Those flints are lovely; after 20 odd yrs of Time Team there's probably a very happy Phil Harding somewhere 😆
It's stunning. The video shows that, but being there really is quite special. The sands move around a fair bit, but the river always pushes through. I fish there for the sea trout. We had a few nice dinners there during our stay! I'm sure Phil would love to visit there, if he hasn't already! I'm a huge Time Team fan! Willie :)
Thanks Jeannie - glad you enjoyed it! The cuckoo is lovely to begin with, but after a few hours, quite honestly, it does drive you... well... a bit cuckoo! Willie :)
Wow! There was so much going on in this video! I loved it, cheesy puns, a wee bit of urban exploration, and you doing Sarah's voice over was too funny, (nothing like Sarah though, I have to say lol) The scenery was gorgeous, very atmospheric, specially with your drone shots. And I loved your museum tour, and seeing the castle, there's always so much to do, and see in Edinburgh, you don't know where to look, you could spend a whole day just in the castle itself 😂 I liked your new tune as well, your music is always perfect for the moments that its playing over. Thank you for an awesome video 🤗💛
This was an absolutely beautiful video. The filming was wonderfully done and presented the stunning scenery perfectly. Loved the history surrounding this area. Great finds that helped accomplished your goal for the video. Your trip through Edinburg brought back wonderful memories of my trip there in 2005. I felt right at home while I was in Scotland so thank you for bringing my memories alive again. Of course you know Jack is a camera hog and he certainly brings lots of energy to the video. Thank you for sharing. Have a great week and please keep safe. ❤️🇨🇦
Once again you kids have taken me to an amazing place where in real time I will never be able to visit but I have enjoyed watching you so very much! I love rocks of all kinds and to think that the hands of poeple so many many years ago tooled these rocks is amazing! I do enjoy watching Jack jump around after he has been on his leed. It is as if he had been tied up for half his life! 🤣 Please be careful and stay safe! ❤❤
i cannot say enough how beautiful the landscape was on that hillside you two are very lucky to be part of the history of a very beautiful place (and its so cool to think you will forever be written into it, now your great great great grandchildren can see your name in the history you found, and maybe someday have their own names under yours :))
Hi, wonderful trip to a truly beautiful area, I wish I could be there, I miss the feel, the smell and the ambiance of the north of Scotland. Loved the workmans pipe, the mesolithic flakes and of course 'Brian'. Looking forward to seeing the three of you on your next adventure. Stay safe, have a great week, xx
Great video. i live in kent so lots of flint. in the year 2000 i found 2 hand axes dating back 500,000 years it was a crazy find i treasure them still..stay safe.. VIC...
Amazing video, love the new music and ment to say something about the music in Sarahs video too. Loved the scenery and the building’s, hope the museum liked the flint and they end up on display. Take care and thank you for sharing 👍👏❤️🌈
Some 'ancient' is looking down and wondering why you'd want that old trash!---I'm always amazed at the harsh conditions our ancients have had to endure. Local culture here is very close to home, with all our variable weather. And we're not even that far north, but on the coast with fog, wind, heavy winter rains (well, used to be heavy winter rains...sigh).---Willie: I believe your accent got denser when you were talking about the ancients.---This was a very wonderful adventure.
Enjoyed your channel, liked & subscribed. Nice guitar to accompany the video too. You might want to invest in a "Dead Cat" which is a muffler for you audio pickup/ microphone will make the videos much more enjoyable to hear in the wind. Really enjoy archeology of all ages but especially the very old stuff. As i've been collecting unique stone tools for 60 years on the Mojave desert in California, arrowheads are a bit modern for me so i usually leave those for some other lucky person. Love your dog you beautiful green land & your history, Look forward to viewing more of your past and future videos. Cheers, Craig Harald from Death Valley, California
Splendid video Willie, you have outdone yourself…excellent production all the way through! Lovely seeing you all together on this outing. Understandable how that location became populated in ancient time to present. What a contrast of recently abandoned cottage and long abandoned brock. Looked to be a fun adventure seeking Mesolithic artifacts and finding a nice collection! Well done. Glad you guys took the finds to the museum and they were taken in, that is awesome. Willie, this is such an enjoyable video, I just can’t seem to find words to give proper credit and thanks for this very special presentation. I really enjoy paleo- through neo- lithic history. Lots of that activity here and it is a thrill to find the old artifacts. Imagine, a 12,000 year old piece and you touched it after the last person held it back then. Wow! Liked the new musical theme. Brilliant photography and editing to create this enjoyment. Thanks again…see ya next time.
I always watch every single video and have so enjoyed your journey so far from day one. You guys rock, (around the world, not just the clock.) I watch and wait when its time for your newest adventure. Thank you. And kiss that darn dog. If you guys ever have kids they better be extra cute to beat out that dog. He is my all time favourite dog person on you tube. Cheers from Central New York state. Your music is so nice. I bet your mother is so very proud of you. I know I am.
Fantastic video. Very beautiful scenery. My husband and I went to Edinburgh 4 1/2 yrs. ago. We did the Royal Mile tour and went to the museum. I would love to visit Scotland again someday.
Wonderful video. I find it fascinating that your finds look exactly like the knapped stones we find in the US. I noticed thumb scrappers, an arrow scrapper, and cutting blades in your collection. Absolute belters.
Thanks - and likewise. To think that nobody had touched these artefacts for up to 12,800 years is staggering! The museum were very excited to receive them. Willie :)
Was a different but very enjoyable video. Gorgeous scenery. I can’t imagine holding that flint in my hand knowing the age. How cool to have it go to the museum! The buildings were sooo cool. There are 2 points I feel I need to make. First, Willie, Sarah does not sound like that! Secondly, I finally figured out why I can’t climb those steep hills you climb, I don’t have a fast-forward button! 😂😂😂. Tell Jack Spaniels he has nothing to fear from Bryan! Jack is much cuter and he isn’t relegated to the garage!
Thanks Terri - it was such a fun adventure! It was lovely to be able to show you all out there exactly where we were too! The only thing that makes me a wee bit sad about making these videos is that I have to hide my locations most of the time for fear of a few unscrupulous others making a mess of the land I have permission to dig on. The scenery on the north coast is simply stunning. This is just one example of a unique and breathtaking landscape, quite different to the rest of Scotland. The whole country is stunning, but this is just stunning in its own way. We're over the moon that the museum have claimed the artefacts - we're keen to see what they say next! And yeah - I know Sarah doesn't really sound like that - I was just being silly - she found it really funny though, so its ok. :) I wish I had a fast forward button for real life too - I think Jack has one already built in! Ha! Jack is always the cutest - Brian hasn't got a look in! Willie :)
I have started my savings account for my vacation to Scotland/ Ireland and Northern England . I have about 3.5 years until I retire. If I don’t come before then I will after. When is the best time weather wise to come? I know you were being funny about Sarah’s voice! I got a chuckle too! I am curious though, you have a very strong accent that I don’t hear from Sarah. Is she from somewhere else! I might have to consider moving there. My country is a huge dumpster fire and I only see things getting worse! 😖
The "chambers" are called a kist, it's a stone lined burial box.. I also saw at least 2 hammer stones whilst you were looking for chips of flint. Palm sized round rocks used for knapping, usually of a softer stone like sand stone.
Jack says - "That's not a ruined shot! It's pupper 'enhanced'." Also - juniper berries!! 😍The horses!! What an awesome place, the stone tools are just icing. Sadly, in the US, stone tools not dug in an archaeological setting are usually considered to have no scientific value and most museums are not interested. Since the metal ages didn't happen here, stone tools go right up to the Modern Era.
Ha! Jack is the real star here! Gotta throw in a bit of Python wherever possible! That's crazy about the artefacts there! Can't imagine the museum turning anything down here. In fact, in Scotland, they pretty much insist on taking anything and everything. They do pay you for finding items though. Often not that much, but that's not the reason for finding these amazing artefacts anyway. And that do give you a certificate, which is pretty cool! Thanks for watching! Willie :)
Wow, great job. Here in Canada we are not allowed to look /dig for artifacts, ancient or not. The government passed a law in the late '70's allowing only archeologists to find them. You can't even remove them from your own fields. Grew up on a farm and filled a shoebox with flints, arrow heads and axes in the sixties. Best fun I ever had. Nothing like history no matter how old or how recent. Thank you.
Love your videos, fascinating place and amazing finds. Your channels are Scotlands best kept secrets. We have a pair of Osprey in a nest on a hydro pole that we watch from home. Hope the efforts to reintroduce them to the UK are successful. Fortunately for us they are pretty common where we live in Ontario.
Loved you scenery!! You are so blessed to live in such a beautiful country!! Really wish I could see you museum. Weirdly, I just finished a novel that takes place in Edinburgh on the royal mile in a bookshop! So cool to see the real area. Thanks for taking us along.🥰🥰
Another masterpiece, I love your channels so much and consider your videos the finest productions on RU-vid 😀they are fun , informative and shows off the country I love so much, best wishes, Andy , Glasgow 😀ps , I thought "jack" Cousteau would be a good nickname for the water loving pup !
I loved the video and the history of your country. I know that your aware of it but I’d like to remind y’all your truly blessed to have been born and live in such a wonderfully beautiful place and the people. I was wondering during the video as I was enjoying the chords of music along with the video if you could poll your followers to see if they or we would be interested in buying copies of your music. Listening to the chords is so relaxing. Just a thought I’m sure it would be positive. Have a blessed week.
👍👌👏 Impressive, beautiful landscape with a really nice, good looking couple with a big positive auras. Not to forget the nice, cute and curious water Spaniel! ;-) Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all involved life forms (humans and animals).
Fabulous views. Just wondering how high the drone goes? Seemed to be miles up at one point. The scenary is unreal. So glad I've been able to see the glory of Scotland, especially the Highlands and even Skye, albeit a flying visit. 😀
That small piece of arrowhead looks like it was a hunting trip for hunting small game like birds, rabbits, and other small creatures to find their way into the stew pots.
