My grandpa served in ww2, he gave me a lot of cool items. He passed away 9 years ago but I will never forget the stories he told me. He said that after ww2 he couldn't bbq anymore because he would have panic attacks because it reminded him of the concentrationcamps. He gave me a chest full of interesting things, from both the Allies and the Nazis. He gave me an original Nahkampfspange Silver (30 days hand-to-hand combat of the Germans). Different buttons, socks, shoelaces, postcards and even bullets. He has given several Nazi ribbons, and medals which I now have hanging in my room on a special wall in remembrance of WW2. I loved my grandfather very much, I hope he is with all his friends in heaven now, and they will protect us from a better place. Amen.

That MP40 needs to be put in an electrolysis bath for about 24 hours to lift all the rust. I'd guess that once you've done that, some of the inner parts might still be operable.

The corrosion on it is so bad that I doubt you could make it operable with just a bath. Even if it was operable, I wouldn’t trust firing it. You’d need to replace some parts with civilian MP40s, but that would be close to impossible to do in Europe if you don’t live in Switzerland.

Cambodia is still full of them, and we are talking about the 70s. Anti personnel mines do go off easily but vehicle mines or tank mines require a little more weight. With that being said, let's imagine there's 200 pounds over the mine of dirt, that would only require a hundred more... rough estimate because it definitely varies on type but 300+ is a good approximation.. but I have seen 240+ pound men set off tank mines.

The Mütter's cross of honor badge was fascinating, which leads me to believe it was a civilian fleeing with the Wehrmacht. I can't be certain but I think I have an idea of where they are, and it was the sight of a battlefield where German soldiers and civilians alike were trapped in an encirclement while they were desperately trying to flee from the Red Army, and it happened at the very end of the war, but that's all I will say.

For those who are doubtful over the mother's cross. Think to the late stages of the war, germ any was desperate and near enough everyone was conscripted to fight. I would love to do something like this again. When I was stationed on Camp Schwab, Okinawa in 1999 I went on the Tunnel Rat tour. We didn't find much but that didn't matter. It was still totally awesome to be there, seeing where this battle unfolded. Saw Hacksaw Ridge and heard the story for the first time. The day I didn't go, a Marine from my battalion found an authentic Samaria Sword. I heard it was pretty much spotless. The Japanese officer that hid it wanted it preserved and it was. 54 years later the grandson of one of the Marines he fought at the Battle of Okinawa ends up finding it and returning it to the family who then donated it to one of the rare WWII museums Japan has. My wife is Japanese and she didn't know very much about WWII. She knew there was a war, she knew Japan attacked the U.S first at Pearl Harbor, she knew the U.S. dropped two Atomic bombs on Japan and she knew Japan didn't have much of an army because of WWII. But that was really about all she knew. Now, Japan is starting to talk more about it. Japans greatest ally is their former enemy, us. And Japan is one of, if not the most loyal ally we have now. We shouldn't shy away from talking about the 2nd most important event that ever took place in human history. Nothing like WWII ever happened on that kind of a scale before or since. The only thing that ever happened more important than WWII was Christ. Other than that, nothing compares.
@sunlizard940
@sunlizard940 3 года назад
I can’t imagine how hard it was for the guy that found that sword to give it back to the family. My family has 2 Japanese swords from WWII passed down by my great grandfather who was a marksman in WWII. He picked one up off of an officer that he killed (so it is a Japanese officers sword) and another is the sword of a regular soldier that looks like a sword that must have been passed down through his family. Eventually when they become mine, there is no way in hell that I will track down it’s owners family and give it back. Those are war trophies passed through my family and I have no intentions of parting with them or selling them. Point being, I don’t get how he had the selflessness to give it back.

Findings on Eastern front often hits me when thinking how bad situation must have been at the end of the war. Both sides suffered, Germans more so because not many prisoners were taken from either side. If they were, future for Germans was probably worse than instant death... Finds like K98 bolts, their bayonets, Gewehr 43 and MP40 in good condition, badge and the rest show fighting was fierce with many dead soldiers. They are great finds anyway, i hope it shows people what war is about. Good job guys!
