The developers have actually commented on this and it makes pretty good sense to me imo They spend so much of the dev time on base game just building the games systems, characters, maps and just creating new ideas for a sequel and making the game work etc. Once you finally get all that baseline base game work done you can start flowing on making the actual good content By the time the game is almost ready to launch and all that base game building and developing is done they can start going ham on creating awesome side stories that don’t necessarily need to make sense in the games cannon universe and the developers can use everything they learned from creating the base game and use the knowledge to build the new DLCs more efficiently and just overall be more skilled and developing content for the game And then towards the very end of the games life cycle, after those 4 or 6 or whatever Expansions release, developer focus and money starts going towards the next game / other games which is why they usually don’t get the opportunity to pump out awesome DLC packs for the games we love Commander Lilith dlc in borderlands 2 was awesome to see them go back and develop something that they had experience with and surely loved for a long time
A few corrections. Both the directors and designers cuts were answers to the disappointments that the community had with the launch. None of it was really cut content. Bounty of Bloods narrator is literally introduced the second or third mission to you at the end of the mission. Also the Krieg DLC was created during the awkward time period of in-studio and quarantine work from home work. The fact the maps are at the scale, there's new enemy designs and its not buggy as hell is a miracle on itself
@@southernSCkid No. Maybe a few skills were experiments that got scrapped and was hidden away, but the 4th skill trees actually had thoughts of how the characters played and how to fix their biggest problems. This is the same company that paywalled DLC characters and maximum levels across multiple games. Comparatively I'd buy a skill tree if my max level and all the characters were free any day

to be fair, krieg and the other vault hunters met roland for a short period of time, while with brick, mordecai and lilith they spent the entirety of the time period between BL2 and BL3 (i think it was 7 years? maybe 10? idk) long story short, they spent more time with lilith and others compared to the time spent with roland, so he might have very little memory and attachment to him
I thought Rose's motivation was pretty clear, she wants to use the Ruiner to find a way to attack and demolish Jakobs as a corporation and make the entire planet follow her ideals.

Was waiting for a video like this, BL3 was an overall good experience for me as a veteran player and the DLC was a huge part of that. Getting some closure with timothy made me very happy as him and clap trap were the two characters I mained in Pre-Sequel. The outlaw theme in bounty of blood was a real freshener in the franchise, I do fall into the boat of it was too short. They should have made the story a bit longer and flushed out rose more. Overall though, amazing video!
yeah theres more dlcs than bl3. including level cap DLCs. doesn't make it look bad when you can just buy it all in a ~$10 bundle though. but when the game first released, I bet it fucking sucked
I tried them, they're a waste of money. Good thing I didn't pay for them since I tried them through my bud's BL3. I gave up on BL3 since it was way too easy, and got some okay money at Game Stop for it. I'll be sticking with BL1 & BL2.
“Arm Race” had sooo much potential to be more! If only Gearbox actually capitalized on it. They could’ve added more gear in that mode every month or so, to keep it fresh with new items to farm. Aka, a reason to continue coming back to said game mode. They could’ve added new maps and keep it more diverse(when it came to changing the overall setting/theme). If that was the case more players would’ve kept playing it and enjoy it more. Plus, each new map will have their own unique gear, enemies, boss(s), and special elite enemies. It was fun playing the game mode, but after a few more runs. It becomes boring really quickly, unfortunately.
saw who uploaded this video and immediately went on to the video, i always liked the dlcs way more than the base game and wanted to see a video by you specifically on the dlcs, seeing as how good your video on the base game was.
I only owned BL2 via Disk on ps3 an ps4. On PS5 i first bought BL3 as only the base game for 3,51€ in the PSN Store. Then i purchased Pandoras box over the sale box in the BL3 Main menu for 29,99€ 😀 So i got all BL games and DLC's for 33,50€ on my PS5.
As a long-time borderlands fan, I bought BL3 at launch, and promptly returned it because it left a bad taste in my mouth. Decided to re-try it after it was being offered for free on epic. It was *ok*, I maxxed out Zane, and ended up buying the DLC bundle for around 30 bucks. I played the Krieg DLC, and then once again lost interest, only coming back to previous installments since. It just didn't grab me like previous borderlands games. The bundle was a regretful purchase in my mind, because it didn't really make up for the game's eh feel like I thought it would.
I tried the DLC to see if I should keep my BL3 disc. They were awful, just prolonged versions of the BL3 already boring story writing and low tier challenge. I took it to Game Stop and got some okay credit for it. BL3 was not worth my cash.

The pandora's box collection is actually much better value if it's on sale also depending on what you already have. The thing was 96% off when the series was on sale because of the movie coming out. I don't care that new tales is in my library. paying 30 australian for bl1, bl3, tales from the borderlands and all of the dlc is absolutely worth the price.
ive managed to get the pandoras box collection for $80 on ps4, yeah new tails is crap but ive managed to get a lot of stuff for almost 80% of the ultimate editions price.

My personal opinion, theres no such thing as a bad borderlands game (expect new tales from the borderlands, yes i will admit they dropped the ball with that.....and then broke the ball.....and then dropped a flaming war chariot on it) but new tales did give us something, the hint of the next game, in the end even if its bad, each game gives us something amazing, sometimes i just like to sit down and go along with the story, just enjoying it without always looking for problems, in conclusion, borderlands will always be number 1, never say anything other.

Never been a fan of the tell tale games. The DLC for all the BL games are amazing. BL2 my Sal had all the good guns and class mods. BL3 would’ve been amazing if there was more PLAYABLE characters
I bought bl3 for 8 bucks or so in a second hand store, and bought that one collection that only had the butt stallion pack the dlc stories and some others, i think it was the season pass collection, either way it was for sale
I've been thinking about buying the DLCs, but have had no idea on what edition just had everything in it, since I already have the base game (for some reason, the metal box edition I bought on launch is just the normal base game with the deluxe edition skins in it?) but I've done basically everything else in the base game so far, even doing an entire full playthrough on mayhem 10 with just base items. I just don't really know what edition to get to have everything is all.
I got the Ultimate Edition on Xbox for 13 bucks with BL1, BL2, all the DLC for both, BL3 with all DLC and the Telltale one. BL3 has some of the weakest DLC for sure. Handsome Casino is pretty good and Love and Tentacles was good. The others were eh
I said it when it release that i believe with all my soul that Maya's funeral wasn't cut content and they just added it later to save face for Ava. There's no way they looked at the story and went "Yep lets remove this HUGE character driving moment from the game, it will make Ava seem so cool!" because after seeing that "cut content" i went from wanting to shoot Ava in the face to somewhat understanding why the way she is. I've never had a 180 like that before. Like she's over here blaming Lilith for her death when she's the one who showed up after being told not to. If it was cut content i hope whoever made the decision to cut it was fired, because it would have made one of the worst parts about the game 100% better.
I only recommend buying love and tentacles, and the Krieg dlc those are the ones that are actually good and have fun content. Maybe handsome casino just for farming that one claptrap boss, but man that one and the cowboys one are just painful to play, the last one only having re-skinned bandits for its whole duration
@@Chunkium it’s kinda boring and felt like a chore to play, I personally didn’t find the story entertaining only some parts of the lore here and there. Didn’t feel attached or rooting for any character and forgot about the story the instant I completed. Also enemy encounters are really boring with all of them being reskinned bandits and dinosaurs save for the reindeer things that appear only once in the entire DLC
No bounty of blood should have been shorter. It was so fucking boring and i got tired of cowboy mcgee talking about every plot point. Also terrible last boss.

It's so refreshing to go back to borderlands 2 and having long stretches of silence where no one feels the need to respond to every little thing you do. You can just appreciate the atmosphere a little. Going back to Wonderlands is exhausting man like holy shit shut up LMAO like I love Tina but Jesus dude and her bumbling celebrity friends? I don't know how I was able to stomach it for an entire playthrough the first time.
I think if they just mixed in both and kept the jokes in during some points or made them subtle that would be good, but when they have tannis saying some dumbass stuff right after Maya dies it feels like Maya's death isnt serious at all
Not the topic of the video, but Lilith didn't get Roland killed. Her being there didn't lead to his death. Even if she hadn't shown up, and Roland still managed to kill Angel, Jack still would've appeared and killed him. The only thing Lilith being there did was get her captured, which is still reason enough to say she shouldn't have come, but the point still stand. Roland died because we killed Angel, not because Lilith helped.
The 4th skill tree I think was always planned, gearbox before borderlands 3 released always mentioned how they won’t add more vault hunters and this was their answer to that
If you’re new to the series, that includes the handsome collection versions of borderlands 2, and the pre sequel, as well as the game of the year version of the first game, all of which include all dlc’s in them, and with the Pandora box thing that’s on sale you’d get everything for the third game as well, and the “tales from the borderlands” telltale game; and even the standalone borderlands 2 dlc that isn’t included in the handsome collection version by itself.. for some dumb reason. So honestly I’d recommend it a ton, especially since it’s on sale for $30-$37 right now, and includes everything except for Tiny Tina’s wonderlands as far as I’m aware. 💛
I fucking LOVED the Krieg DLC, but I did have a huge issue with how 3 handled him overall. Like yes, we get it, "I'M THE CONDUCTOR OF THE POOP TRAIN!" was a line spoken in Borderlands 2. Buuuuuuuut Borderlands 3 goes all out on watering his entire personality down to the word "poop". It's kind of insulting, because the Krieg DLC overall had massive potential to open him up like a fucking can of meat.
I mean, I thought some of the side missions involving him got fairly deep. The way he isolated himself from everyone (except maya) because he believed all the other vault hunters hated him because he was a psycho was definitely beyond the whole "poop train" schtick
Yeah i'm also of the opinion that if you removed the narrator from Bounty of Blood that DLC would be a point better, it barely serves a purpose and it's not really that funny most of the times. That's honestly my issue with Borderlands in general, it tries too hard to be funny and it feels insecure about its own universe and characters, which, are usually fun but gets pulled down by trying too hard, and that DLC is a perfect example, it isn't too crazy or funny as usual, without the narrator it'd be just a sort of straight story but it feels like they felt insecure that people would like it if it didnt try to be funny every 10 seconds. They need to let the comedy come from characters and their personality over references or silly stuff, its what Tales Of Borderlands got super right, the universe and its insane characters are inherently funny, let them breath.
I might be the minority but I was pretty disappointed with the DLC. Perhaps I was expecting too much, but I was hoping they would all be on the level of Dragon Keep and whatever the pre-sequel claptrap DLC one is called lol. I didn't feel like they were as expansive enough as those two, and they kept the cringe-writing, but it wasn't as bad as the base game. The Battle Royale thing was honestly terrible, and I much rather prefer Digistruct Peak, though I don't like the OP levels, nobody does... Overall I'd say the DLCs are okay, just not what I was hoping for. Also no extra vault hunters 💀
Okay, okay, I know that new tales is shit, but I got all the pandora's box, got all my missing DLC for 16 bucks, I just so happen to also have gotten new tales.... Hopefully that can be forgiven.
Bounty of Blood is, for my money, the best DLC in the Borderlands series. It had an engaging world, interesting characters, absolutely stunning visual design and it implied a whole lot more than it showed. I like all the worlds in the Borderlands series but the only world I actually have THEORIES about, the only world I felt compelled to try and investigate was Gehenna. (Spoilers: my theory is that the Blastplains used to hold a city of Jakobs workers, and they tried to unionize, so Jakobs bombed it to ash)

A whole lot of Western films were based on Japanese movies - Yojimbo being the inspiration for A Fistful of Dollars (to the extent where the latter was accused of plagiarism) is the most well-known example. Feudal Japan and the Old West are actually not that dissimilar as settings for stories, and their aesthetics mesh better than you might first think.
Even if they arent all perfect/people dont like them as much as other dlcs I honestly love how much these dlcs are improvements on the mistakes of BL3's main story, with each dlc here having a acutally interesting story that doesnt butcher its characters

Bought the ultimate edition for 20 dollars when it was on sale. BL3 is a blast and its a shame its held down by shoddy writing, but the DLC content and everything is fun.
My, personal, biggest issue with Borderlands 3 dlcs is with Kriegs dlc. The only thing I wanted when they announced a Krieg focused dlc, was to see his reaction to the woman he loved more than anything dying. I was a disappointed we meet up with Krieg after he finds out. I was really hoping to see him snap and lose his shit when he heard Maya died. Other than that, I loved the dlcs.
BL3 has easily some of the best, most solid, better delivered, all-around complete DLCs in the history of the franchise, as well as some of the most egregious ones. I personally have never been THAT disappointed by a story DLC like Krieg's did. On the contrary, i expected to be COMPLETELY disappointed by the battle-royale thingy, instead it turned out to be one of the very few aspects of the game i truly enjoy after they managed to completely butcher difficulty with that horrendous mayhem mode 2.0 and all the patches after that.
Man I'm gonna go back and play bl3 now. It's been a hot minute and hammerlocks DLC is nostalgic at this point its been so long. Liked the weird romance DLC very cute
MOST OF THE BORDERLANDS DLC IS TRASH IN EVERY GAME. Some are palatable but you have to remember knowing how to progress versus not and knowing how builds work vs not makes them a lot easier. They've always had moments of glory but this notion that Borderlands is known for good dlc? completely False. They get like 1 good one per game the rest are mid.
Sad its expensive to ultimate edition. Thats why modern gaming sucks because its not 100% complete except bought the dlc. Not like games in 90's or 2000 where dlc are just spin off game like the example of GTA Vice City
