A separate set of brushes for pastels and pigments! That tidbit alone was worth the 10 minutes of watching this video!!

Used the pigments on a afv chaparral. Got a bronze at a regional Ipms show in Louisville KY 2023. Love the effects you can get. Thank you for the videos.

I read about using pastels and pigments some years back. It was in modeling how too book. I thought the effect was really cool. I still do. So I bought a kit of pastels colors from a local art store with some foam applicators the clerk recommended, I've never used them. I will one day. But see I discovered the tamiya kits of pigments. Love them. Unfortunately my M4 Sherman model looks like it's gone to he'll and back. I kinda over did it. So your totaly on the money about. Less is More. Great video, love them all. Thank you. PS. Practice with them on a mule model first too. Wait he said that too.

Video came one day too late! Just weathered with pastels for the first time yesterday. Turned out really great. Found it looks perfect for exhaust and gunpowder residue.

Hi Aaron, another great video, I first used pastel chalk over twenth years ago and used sandpaper to grind it to powder, I did find the method ok, I now mainly use weathering powders but still have my pastels chalk sticks, thanks for the video, best regards from Australia

Thanks for this great video! I have some older Tamiya weathering masters, and my question is if there is a possibility to reactivate them as the paste is quite tough now.

Not in our experience to date. And even if you could, the quality could be diminished. You're probably better off replacing them.

It wasn't mentioned... but how do you seal them? I always seal my model at the end, but I have found that, in the case of the pastels, the sealing, in this case, dull coat, made the effect disappear. So how do you seal the finish model and maintain the pastels?
@FineScaleModelermagazine

Typically, applying pastels and pigments is the last step in weathering a model and they aren't sealed under a clear coat. You'll want to get them to adhere and more resistant (although not impervious) to the touch with pigment fixer, but after that, you're done. Obviously, this causes issues when dusting a model, which is why a cover or display case is a good idea.

@@FineScaleModelermagazineMost models are handled at shows.... so wouldn't that mean that the pigments would come off on to the hands of the judges?
