This is one of those tips who make you say: "Why didn't I think of that?" Simple, effective trick that will go into my notebook right now.

This is a very helpful video, I have a few kits that i'm working on that have photo etch railings or ladders so this technique will most certainly help me out especially for my biggest project the 1/200 RMS Titanic from trumpeter so thank you finescale for posting this.

Funny thing... I was just getting ready to tackle the railing on my 1/350 Prinz Eugen when I came across this article. Thanks Aaron!

Outstanding video tutorial! Putting PE handles into 1/48 cockpits are the ULTIMATE challenge to me perhaps I can adapt this technique to help with those parts too! Keep up the good work!

I would love to hear more about the various approaches you have to the order in which you apply paint vs assembly and what the thinking is behind that. I have never painted on the fret for instance but I know it's common.

Instead of using superglue from the onset, I first tack the railing in place using tiny drops of Aleene's Tacky Glue. This allows time for adjustments as Aleene's is a tackier type of white glue. Once set, I run a bead of thin CA glue along the inside base of the railing.

I'm always having a problem with photo etched parts. Why do you need to put other stuff after applying Superglue?

Hello. The accelerator (aka The Kicker) used after applying a drop of CA glue is a godsend because it instantly cures and bonds the glue to the part. This especially helpful when trying to delicately hold a piece in "just" the right spot to glue it and have it instantly dry. I use it all the time in those cases since if I'm lucky enough to position the part AND get the CA glue applied, I need it to dry instantly. Hope this helps!

What are those "tips" you used to apply the accelerant? Thanks.

They are a small foam tip brush. You can find them in the model isle of a Hobby lobby.

PE rails look like gargage. Much better for the manufacturer to mold vertical railing, then string some thread through the rails ...much more realistic. But manufacturers love charging more for the garbage PE fret they included in the kit.
