Hang on to the box and the packing. If you ever need to send it in for repair it makes life much easier. After sending a couple different tools in for repair to festool, I can say that they really do go above and beyond. Their warranty really adds value to the purchase.

I just watched your video yesterday on why you preferred the DeWalt and wouldn't get a Kapex... until maybe one day lol. You made the right choice. The handle is placed the way it is so you can line up your thumb-wrist-arm and pull straight down without deflecting the blade... just one of the many ways they make it by far the most accurate saw on the market. I use mine in a shop almost exclusively but it's the only miter saw available that can replace tablesaw sleds for crosscutting and mitering, etc. Nothing else is even close to as accurate. As far as the stand issues you had in the other video; first, read the manual. Setting up the folding stand is a piece of cake if you know where you're supposed to place your foot on the bottom of the stand so it doesn't fall over. If you want to take the saw off the stand, it has quick releases that make it just as easy to remove as removing the DeWalt from its stand. The outfeed tables may be a little time consuming to setup on a new unlevel surface each day, but the pro far outweighs the con in that you have about 8 feet either direction of support and extremely accurate flip stops. Again, accuracy. For a trim carpenter, I don't know how you could live with anything else but the Kapex.

I’m on my second Kapex saw, the first one developed a small issue after 6 years of work, it was sent in for repairs and Festool replaced it with a brand new saw, free of charge. This one has been flogged every day for 9 years, and still cuts as accurately as the day it was unboxed, they are truly awesome pieces of gear. Buy the wheel assembly and the wings too, it makes a great tool even better.

I love my Makita 18Vx2 12" mitre saw. The laser and accuracy are great. I primarily use it for aluminium with a 120 tooth blade. The dust extraction could be better. The attachment point for the vacuum should be on the lower portion.

a few years ago we were doing same size skirting on 400 apartments in a tower, one of hte guys in our team was SO disliked (he put it on himself, long story) that he went and bought a Kapex 120 to fit in and let EVERYONE use it as their own drop saw to do this skirting, all 8 of us took turns to use this saw. Anyway we treated the saw well because ..well its a kapex, and it ripped through all that skirting no problems, it was accurate time and time again on bevels and compound bevels. the only thing that went out of line was the laser.. it was dropped, it was shoved, it fell of the trolley, it was flung around by the handle ( expected collateral damage from 8 Carpenters) and as i said, it still was stiff and accurate. That was light material, Considering i build External Hardwood Stairs, i will stick to my 10inch dewalt, but i agree with Scott, its not very accurate, the bevel adjustment is horrendous. Since Scott does alot of woodwork, i think the kapex was worth it, in the long run .but i think other drops saws come close for GENRAL carpentry (as long as you don't use them externally). The dewalt is definitely a bare bone framing/external saw.

I don't get everyone's obsession with festool. I love new tools, I feel more in a candy store walking down the isle checking out the new cordless stuff from the other manufacturers. I've used festool, they are ok, they aren't that comfortable for me and then you see the price and I always just sit there and ask why? Cheap housings, nothing spacial on the inside to warrant being triple the price of a contractor grade tool. I went to buy the domino the other day knew it was going to be rough. 1500 for the domino and then you have to buy the kit for it to get the cutters and some dominoes, all for only 2 grand. I sat there and thought about it for a bit, then I figured I'd probably want a vacuum and then I just walked out. Walking through that warehouse was just stale, even if I did love the tool brand. To me I think it's all marketing, each in their own systainer, each one put up on a pedestal.

I had similar problems with my Dewalt miter saws. Both 10” and 12” models, they could only be calibrated to be accurate to one thing at a time, and were sloppy if I was doing anything else. Similar weird things if I had to do any compound mitering, layering inaccuracies and neither of my saws had any cracks in their casings or anything. I now have two Makitas, a 12” slider and a 6.5”. Haven’t had any accuracy issues since. Very happy with them.

Hi Scott, in regards to the inconsistent accuracy on your saw. I had the same problem on an Elu 216mm mitre saw, where I’d zero the stops but it would lose that once moved. It turned out to be the hole in the base which the head pivoted on, it had worn so much it was supporting the shaft properly. I had the hole drilled out and fitted with a bronze bushing to the correct size by an engineering shop and since then it’s been unbelievably accurate. Check it out on yours, might be the problem?

Bought a Makita when I was installing my cherry kitchen cabinets and then tall baseboard in house. Couldn't justify to myself at the time the price of the Kapex being twice what I paid. Two years later and so much frustration with using the Makita i bought the Kapex. No comparison for me. Have the Makita to a friend. The difference between a Honda and a Porsche. Both get the job done one is just put together with more precision. Much better dust collection. Keep up the great work. Love to see someone who cares about the end product and works with others with respect.

10” sliding compound miter. Cant remember model and gave brochure to friend with saw. Was about $500 USD at Home Depot 5 years ago.

G, day Scott and team. I once had a drop saw which would jam the small offcut between the blade and fence. I notice the manufacturers are opening up.🤨💯

I have many Festool power tools and you find that even though they monopolize the top of the market there is still room for improvement and space for another high end power tool manufacturer/competitor.

@@kizzjd9578 yeah they make some excellent tools. I’m thinking that there is still room for improvement. There would be a market there also. For example the Festool kapex. Here in the UK it sells for £1200.00. For a machine which gives daily use for say 5 years it’s brilliant value. £5 a week. £1 a day. What kind of machine could you bring to the market with a retail value of £2000 - £3000.?

Yeah, now of course in a couple of weeks you'll be cutting a large piece of timber and the cutoff will swing up and crack the Kapex... like the DeWalt. It's just the way.

I have the 10-inch DeWalt and after I re-calibrated the mitre (using the 5-cut method), it cuts extremely accurate on the mitre. But if I tilt the blade on the bevel, then suddenly it's mitering is slightly off and won't cut perfectly square. There must be a fault in the way the tilt mechanism in designed, because online I've seen several other users complain of that problem also.

I’ve never had great accuracy from my dewalt sliders or chop saws. Any miter saw actually isn’t great. Big base like that I use my cabinet saw. But I’m cutting at my shop. Definitely the solution to airtight joints. But you still need to calibrate the miter gauge for the operation. Just wish you could do it with miter saw with good results. My kapex now maybe can do it but still not sure how well. I just guy the kapex. Big difference from dewalt 780.

Good luck with the Festool Kapex! You won't regret it once you start using it every day. I am trying to convince myself in getting one as well.

The Kapex is the best - finally bought one this year and wow - wish I’d bought one years ago - you need the stand and wings too though to fully utilise its features Yes it’s expensive - but if you want accuracy, dust extraction and easily repeatable cuts then nothing else will do imo

You need to get those sortainers with clear lids Scott. They are great, I have many. I always buy Makita bare tools and buy a Festool Systainer for them :D, they're just better when you stack them.
