Many industrial supplies sell various buffing compounds in much larger, but relatively inexpensive bars. To save a buck, you can make your own compounds using toilet ring was dissolved with paint thinner, then with diatomaceous earth mixed in to create a paste. You can, of course, experiment with other powders, like cooking flower, baking soda, BonAmi, chromium oxide, pumice, feldspar or other powders. WEAR A MASK - You should see the filters on my buffing station after a few months of buffing. It would convince you in a heartbeat.
Glad you finally got a foredom ive had the same one for twenty years hardly any maintenance! Cant say enough about cratex wheels, they take material down quick and can go straight to a quick buff. I use tripoli for compound, zam for stones and around stones, red rouge for final polish , also a little cheap bench top ultrasonic/steamer comes in real handy. Sometimes ill steam a peice to heat it up before dipping it for patenia to speed the process and give different effects(stones willing). Thx for your info thought id share a lil too. Just finished two pendants, used zero glue, just soldered a bail to a bezel, pressure fit the stone and let it form over the edges, super solid and like the idea of zero glue, when i have to use glue I make a glue from charcoal and pitch.
What about pearl, will it withstand this process? I want to make a nautical pendant with a cluster of raw pearls in the center……. Will they break down in this process?
Hey hoping someone sees my comment. I watch all these videos but haven’t found one that explains why part of your piece may form in copper while in the bath while the rest of the the piece won’t even while in the bath for many hours most of the piece is painted in graphite and all lines connect yet 80% of it won’t form copper. Has anyone experienced this?
