Just got through staining a newly built red oak dresser with a standard pigment stain only to discover today how much more effective dye stain is. Having said that, I see first hand here how to tackle my next piece. Great video.
I used Minwax's red mahogany which proved to not absorb into the wood to produce the depth I was looking for. I'd love to see more videos, especially if you were to demonstrate a dark (i.e. walnut) water based dye on red oak. Needless to say I won't be going with an oil based pigment stain again.
