To help anyone who didn't pick up on things: Wood turned and then dyed black with an Aniline dye (definitely use gloves for aniline dye it has some nasty chemicals in it). NO lacquer is used before the gold wax goes on. Wax applied generously and worked into grain. Finishing oil used to soften and remove excess while also building up a good finish.
Wow, I am very impressed!!! This was so simple to understand and I am ready to take on doing a whole table! What I wanted to ask is that I have a brown table, can I just use silver gilding wax on it, leave it to dry and then finish off with teak oil to maybe get an effect or do I have to stain the table to take the brown off? I also have natural wood cupboards and wanted to know if I could just use gilding wax on them instead of paint to give a shimmery effect? What do I seal that with? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
I would love to try this on my ash guitar body. Would putting a water based sanding sealer on the wood prior to staining inhibit the wax from settling into the grain?
The video stop when he put the plate on place and restart when the plate is already black. Did he put the lacquer or something underneath, and why this is all black how many coats of black wax?
I was looking thru videos to find a cool finishing technique to use on a sanded pine speaker box I built and I think this is gonna be it , it looks so freaking cool! Does anyone know if it will work on pine? Do I need to pre stain condition sanded pine plywood before using an ebony stain ?
The results are impressive, though the process seems complicated. I've see similar results using only 2 steps. Start with stain, followed by a finish (Danish oil or teak oil finish). You can keep it in good condition by applying Howard Feed-N-Wax Wood Polish and Conditioner. It contains beeswax and orange oil. Brings a nice shine and keeps the wood oiled.
Is this an April fools day joke? He's just wrecking his wood with ugly crap that will scrap off when you use it, wtf? Get better wood and get better at woodworking if you want prettier wood, use burl ffs.
