People who keep saying on chat that they don't feel the original atmosphere from the original game ofcourse you cant feel it your just watching a streamer play
This is honestly lazy reasoning, there's plenty of games that you can just watch and "feel the atmosphere". Silent hill is just as much a visual and audible experience as it is active gameplay, you can argue you don't feel as immersed by your logic but atmosphere? You don't need to actually play it to feel that. Also do not forget there's a lot of people holding the original in high regard, to an unreasonable extreme, do not take them all too seriously. A better justification for them not feeling the same atmosphere would be that it's literally a complete overhaul of what they're familiar with. New graphics, updated sound design and a lot of remade aesthetical details that create a New composite atmosphere, THAT would make more sense to say "of course you don't feel it". However I disagree with them, if anything it feels even more like what we know silent hill is than ever before, it is now fully realized in its design. Atmosphere is delivered in more ways than just a direct experience, but IMMERSION is of course usually best served as directly as possible
@@deomikhailangelonunez5789 the reason is that the original is old. The graphics, film grain, camera angle all created the unique atmosphere. You can’t recreate that fully. There is a filter in the settings though, for a 90s look.
@@SinclaRx3emphasis on the angle, with the rough graphics adding to the original. To supplement this, the gaming scene at the time had a gap in the market for this kind of game. This remake compensates for most of that with dark rooms. Still, this remake is well done for what it is.
Yeah, I swear to god the die-hard gatekeeping fans of Silent Hill are the one who will kill the franchise and won't let it ever return again. Of course, things can't exactly be like the originals. Those are fucking PS2 games. There're things games from that age could do, but will never work in this age.
@@raging100 they are Just losers who dont have Someone to Talk and feel Like Charlie is somekind of a Friend to unload all this Emotional Trash. If you have Problems (Like we all do) Just search Help or get some Friends you bos
This game is literally all about grief, depression, trauma this isnt supposed to be a “Fun” game all those people are totally validated.. yall are werid tryna shame random people venting (also if it was another game like sparking zero then okay its off topic but still nothing wrong with it)
People are arguing which version of the game is superior meanwhile both the original and the remake are extraordinary games in their own merits. There are some things I wish the remake didn’t change, but in essence it’s literally the same game guys.
It's like 96% the same exact game story wise. They just doubled the gameplay by giving you more building to explore, fleshing out the boss fights, making more puzzles etc. This game is a goddamn masterpiece.
The voice actor who read Mary's letter at the end absolutely killed it, that was so dark and heavy. I barely understood the plot (didn't play the originals and skipped around Charlie's stream), but that ending shook me.
Idk if some of yall know this but you can like and appreciate BOTH og and remake at the same time, they both succeed at doing different things, you dont have to pick one or the other like its some ultimatum being held over your head lol.
just finished the game too and ofc i got the leave ending first just like i did the original, gotta say bloober respected the OG and faithfully remade it, never doubted bloober since, i have some nitpicks like line delivery but that's about it and other are a big improvement on the remake especially the boss fights, this is a 9/10 for me almost the same score i gave the OG, the OG is a bit better, but gotta say remake can sit alongside with the OG, now i can't wait for bloober to remake 1,3 and 4, c'mon konami
My only disappointment really with the game is the line delivery of the hallway scene and the letter. Mary’s remake voice actress just didn’t pull at my heart the same way the original did. By the end of the original, I was bawling like a baby at how amazing her performance of both the hallway and letter were. The remake wasn’t bad by any stretch but it failed to really grab me emotionally the same way. If the hallway and letter we done as well as the original, I honestly would’ve had 0 issues with giving this game a 10/10 and arguing that it is better than the original. The gameplay across the board was fantastic and the game was much scarier than the original. Minor story nitpicks aside, I was really thinking that the game honestly was just as good as the original with the potential to be even better than it but right now, I believe it’s equal to. It does a lotta things better but not quite enough to outright be the definitive way to experience Silent Hill 2
On the original in water ending he picks her up then leaves, presumably to put her in the trunk of his car to drive into the water with her, which would suggest she's in the trunk of his car the whole game, even right at the start at the bathroom. 🤯
Not in the trunk, this theory already got debunked. Mary is on backseat from the start of the game. Masahiro ito one of the creator of silent hill already confirm this on his tweet
@@ttjh1996 i like your interpretation for that. He just recently k1ll his wife that's why on the begining of the game you see james washing his hand on bathroom. Sad, because of his denial and mental block he can't see her on the backseat. Until he accepting the reality.
The eggs the pyramid heads are holding represent Marys death (the rust covered egg) and Eddies death (the scarlet egg). A pyramid head for each to remind James of his guilt.
Me spending the first few seconds of the video debating with myself if were going to get greeted with the traditional "hey...hey" or the classic "hey...hey...hey". Than he goes and throws me for a loop, hitting us with the ultra rare "hey"
OG Nostalgia fans gonna be pissed at Charlie when they find out that he thinks the remakes VA is better across the board, including Mary, he even shat on the OG letter reading at the end.
SH2 is my fav Game of all time but the VA IS JUST SO MUCH BETTER IN THE REMAKE. There is some great Stuff Like the OG Letter in the OG Water Ending but beside of this... Every VA is better in the Remake
@@superstrat5826 I agree. The remake VA is way better for the most part. But ngl he should've seen the end of the letter from the OG game, specifically I felt Mary from the original delivered that ''you made me happy'' line way better.
The VA in the og feels unsettling and I think that's a compliment to the old graphics and weird vibes of the original. Even the characters feel odd and inhuman. The remake has better graphics, gameplay, and the VA feels much more like humans are speaking. Which compliments it's other improvements. They're both great, comparing is not.
And yes remake is MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER everybody hating on the game is honestly weird af to me Better graphics Handles better Better physics Better voice acting More endings Etc.
I don't know much about silent hill but ill say the story is pretty good (and very sad) and they remade the game pretty good compared to the original, the voice acting and the graphics for sure are way better
Sad that there is not a Angela ending. I dont mean a creepy "40Year old gets together with a 19Y old Girl with some Daddy issues" i mean just some happy ending for her ;( Want to see some happyness in her but seems like she was just to far gone and just wants to die and was rdy to do it at the end 😢
Isn't James supposed to be in his late 20s? Anyway, something similar to the first game's Good + ending in which he leaves with Laura AND Angela and then she goes her own way would've been cool.
i don't know if i ever want to love someone so much that their passing will hurt me this heavy or if i don't want to love someone so much that their passing will hurt me this badly
Yeah the one where he leaves with Laura and the one where he asks Mary to wait for him and she says she always is and he lives on are the most obvious true endings to me .
I don’t think it’s “the” bad ending. Since James is literally never heard from again. Plus Maria is significantly worse. Although I’d like the Leave ending to be canon, no ending is canon to James’ story. Though a lot of the og crew and James’ original va believe in Water is the most fitting
I mean, that’s what James was gonna do. He came to silent hill to drown himself in the lake with Mary. Which is why she’s in the backseat of his car. But then the magic of the town and his guilt blind him to the truth. And the whole game is him wanting to be punished for it. Angela and Eddie’s endings do mirror James’. He either learns nothing and validates his behavior. Or he can’t deal with everything and lets himself go.
Here I thought Charlie wasn’t healing the entire game because he played it before and remembered that you need to play dangerously for one of the endings but turns out he just bared with the red screen for the heck of it 💀
I haven't played the remake yet, but I've been keeping up with it by watching other people play it, and I have to say that I love the new voice acting, they keep the spirit of the OG alive by feeling stilted when they talk to each other, and like something is just really off with all of them, like they're all stuck in a dream or nightmare, it's very unsettling and I love it. I think they did an amazing job with the remake.
One of my favorite differences from the remake, is james being extremely conflict avoidant, aside punching eddie which was just kind of done to try and get him to snap back. Even with maria at the end hes trying his best to resolve it peacefully, where OG james is just like We're done here. Really like this version of the ending.
I had absolutely no faith that this would be good. I only played two of Bloober Team's games, Layers of Fear and The Medium. Didn't like either of them. This might be my GOTY. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really hope Bloober Team gets to work on remakes of 1 and 3, because they GET Silent Hill and clearly have a ton of respect for the original games.
Somehow Charlie managed to just skip an entire section until after the elevator in lakeview, he didnt even do the mirror OR apple until way after, i didnt know that was possible.
Why do people argue about stupid shit, like god damn what the fuck, nobody will ever be pleased with a remake or remaster, ever, I promise you people LOOK for reason to hate shit, and don't actually WANT to enjoy it, this remake is insane, i think better than the original. i just got to the labyrinth and this is genuinely one of the greatest games of all time, it's insane, second favorite horror game easily, definitely better than re2 remake, i didn't think this game has been very scary but the tension and atmosphere is what's getting me.
The chat backseat gaming him was annoying af. They told him not to skip the hallway dialogue when the beauty is how everyone plays the game on their own...
So with that in water ending what was the entire journey into Silent Hill? Did all that take place in the afterlife *after* he drove off the cliff? Would love some theories!
I got the Maria ending first, didn’t even mean too, just my completionist brain checking out every room and double checking shit and I ended caring for Maria too much.
I really, and I mean really, wish he had turned off the red vignette from damage in his setting, 90% of his entire playthrough you could not see half of what was going on.
Snobs and critics will always complain. The remake was great. Maybe slightly too padded, a little too costly, and the Angela and Maria VA’s aren’t as talented, but still the game is great. 8/10 phenomenal remake
@@Skateandcreate9 Maybe you let Maria die or get hurt many times or you left her in the Labyrinth section, also it might be that you looked at Angela's knife way more than usual.
@@photocide17 Nah. It’s good, but the original game is literally a perfect piece of art. It’s usually ranked as the best game ever made or at least among the top 3. If they had stuck closer to some of the original camerawork/lighting, done better with the voice actors, and not changed the ost/sound design? it could be as good as. but never better
It's got much higher res graphics, a modern camera and controls, more natural voice acting vs. disoriented/dreamlike in the OG, and the music is redone with more instrumentation vs. the OG simpler approach. Whether that's better or not is up for you to decide. :)
@@MachFiveFalconNgl the va in the remake captures that dreamlike vibe way more. Like listening to the remake va just seems like a disoriented guy in a dream. It just makes the original feel way more… just unnatural.

Do you mean back when u came across it??
Ost is better in the original, Voice actors are better (james and eddie have nice moments in remake though), mary’s LETTER isn’t even close bro. The original game was perfect and the only things that are “worse” are the things they took the liberty to change
Finished it this morning after playing through the prison last night until the end. I got the in water ending just like Charlie. I feel like most people end up getting that ending? It seems tied to how much damage you take or something strange.
@Sindrella. Yup. Damage is important, plus inspecting Angela's knife several, going through the rusty egg gate ((after the double pyramid head boss fight)) and not fully listening to Mary's monolog in that long hallway before the final boss. You probably have met at least 2 or 3 of the conditions to get "In Water" ending, but I gotta say getting that ending without a guide and by natural playthrough is insane 😅👌
Dawg the original letter reading has some of the best voice work i've seen in a video game and you didn't even finish it wtf, the va's voice actually breaks from crying
So many people called the in water ending out lol! Nice playthrough, this remake was such a good idea.. May Konami redeem themselves for the coming years too.
