Make spacers for the rear subframe to lower it to get the rear axles in a more relaxed state and it will help with the rake

If you are raising the rear end to match the front, won't the CV angles become worse? They already looked a tad extreme but hard to tell for sure. Regardless crazy to see the progress!

Looking good, you need to cut that notch larger and plate it, the mounting plate's do not seem beefy enough IMHO. Make sure you have full travel at the rear drive shaft's on full droop and full upword's travel, or the shaft's will bind and may do damage to the diff or axle bearing's. Radiator's in the back have to have a lot of airflow, so scoop from the roof to the trunk or and scoops in the rear fenders with ducting to the radiator you will need two fan's and I advise a transmission cooler with a fan. All mentioned here are problems I encountered fitting V8's in the smallest european car's like a Ford Escort MK 3 & 4 Cortina's, K series engine in a Austin Mini so some expieriance on my part.

this is so cool dude, long way to go, but damn im excited! the best part is, you don't have to go too far back time wise in your videos, and you didn't really know how to fabricate, weld etc, and now you're doing all this stuff yourself, mega props to you dude!

the swap looks great only thing I'm wondering about is the lug pattern, will you convert the rear to 5 lug or the front to 4 lug or will it just stay like that? cause at the moment there should be two diffrent lug patterns right?

Awesome work Caleb! I am thinking, you should box in that notch and add some gusseting to the outside of the mounting tabs to prevent side-to-side metal fatigue

Great job so far Caleb! You have come a long way from riveting together the hood scoop on the Rally Miata and the drift truck came out awesome.

Steel-it epoxy coating would be a lot better than powder coating. 1. It shows cracks unlike powder coat 2. It lasts way longer 3. It can be touched up if its worn down 4. It provides better protection against the elements, water submersion and abrasive things like dust, rocks, etc. Steel-it does take a bit more prep work to adhere properly but if a sandblast was already being done then it wouldn't be an issue.

WHAT ABOUT THE SUBARU REAR HUBS 5 STUDS

This is impressive on so many different levels. Very inspiring to see what one motivated man can accomplish.

As a sort or rule for plates when you drill a hole make sure you have the hole center 1.5x hole diameter away from the edge. so if it's a 10mm hole then there would be 15mm from the center to the edge of the plate or 10mm of plate around the hole. This is what we do in are bolt in roll cage plates. :) Hopes this helps.

1:35 that diff reminds me of my BMW diff. Awesome build finely getting to the AWD life. You need to do one of them chained up hoonicorn burnout then drop the chain..... so awesome but got to dirt after massive burnout. 😎 also wow them shafts are tiny amazing how they can take all that power. From hot gluing wires together to full custom one off builds in only a few years. Good job!

I would love to see you build up the rear end mounting bracket, maybe drop the diff a little bit, but dam kid love what I see, keep it up.

The diff mounts look strong front->back, but not really for twisting. You might break something due to driveshaft torque.

You are making progress a lot faster than I expected. If it had taken you twice as much time to get to this point, I still would’ve thought you were making great progress but this is another level.

You should look into adding a TorqLocker to the rear diff since you are going to be taking this off road!

Close that notch in the frame above the diff please, even use the piece you cut out, just flip it.

Looking good! My only thought about the rear end is having no bushings for the diff? May be a little hard on the chassis, specifically the subframe mounts.

It still amazes me how you've never had any major incident while working on your cars .... welding right next to your fueltank ( even if it's drained ... ) sneakers, sweatpants, no arm protection while welding/grinding ... yet you pull it off so i tip my hat for that sir. cant wait to see this project finished.

Shoulda swapped the subie rear subframe and suspension in. Then it would be level and have 5 lugs on front and back. Love the channel and the build though keep up the good work

*SHIRT IDEA* Like in a classic video game where you pick your character but you have three choices 1. Rally Miata (V.1) 2. Rally Subaru 3. Rally Miata with subie drivetrain (forgot what we’re calling this)

I would say keep the miata front body panels and cut holes for the frame rails to stick up out of. It would end up looking something like on a Hummer H1.

Gotta get adapters and run the sparco wheels out back too. Would be a good look with the knobbies.

If I'm not mistaken, you're gonna want to have the same wheels and tires on the front and rear of the car so you don't damage the trans since they weigh/grip the road different but you probably knew that. Great progress!!

You better put those fenders and popups back on. It'll look a lot cleaner, and makes it more of a sleeper. No one expects a Miata that has regular body panels back on to be EJ swapped and AWD

You should get a hatchback kit for it. Then modify the back to make more like the back of a trophy truck with a wheel and radiator.

Also may want to measure those rear axles at ride night! I’m nervous they will bind since they were “built” at full extension. If you took this into consideration ignore me lol

its kinda crazy seeing something you really wanted to do that seemed impossible at first but then you actually did it and your like "damn, i did this!"

i think you should do an easy to bolt on connection for the fenders, bumper and hood of the miata so you can have a sleeper and a trophy truck
