I need to remove the last of the old floor joists, finish the sill plate on the west wall and put in the 2nd half of the girder (mid-span beam) in order to be ready to finish the rest of the new floor joists.
We would love to hear from you :

Great job Nate. Your so into being to the T in the measurements, I would of had so much off and not been able to get as close in your measurements as you have been getting it all at. Just so amazed at your abilities. I loved the commentary corrections and then to say oh Nate I give up I was laughing at that, thanks for the laughs I think we all needed a bit of humor and now you can move on to getting the floors back in. Yay!!!

If you think about it at the moment Nate is under the joist so that’s why he was calling them rafters from the basement area just saying lol. Either way we all knew what he’s saying. I’m not a carpenter so it’s all new to me lol.

Rafters are above one’s head, and these are definitely above Nate’s head, so he can totally be excused for confusing them with joists 😂😂😂 Great video, btw.

If I were you I would also dig out some of the floor so you would have a little more head space and use to store your canning and other thing without bending over. More work but could benefit you later.

Why do you use untreated wood for your beams? Surely it would be safer in the long run to use treated, so as to avoid the possibility of rotting and termites?
@TheKraemerLife
@TheKraemerLife 2 месяца назад
I believe it's standard to use untreated wood for joists & girders. Basically anything that doesn't 'significantly ' rest on concrete. The end of the girder I put up touched concrete, so I put in the sill gasket to keep it from touching the concrete. I did that anywhere the untreated wood touched the concrete (very few areas, very little surface area). I did use pressure treated wood for the sill plate and also used sill gasket, even though technically I didn't need to use the sill gasket. I believe there is a spray (or a mixture that can be made) that I can use on all the wood surface in the basement to keep termites from eating the wood - I think it's based on boric acid - I was thinking about doing that at some point in the near future, but haven't decided 100% yet.
