Finnegan's Garage Ep.45 Blasphemi Gets Metalflake and New Headers

It's been awhile, I know, but I'm back. The end of 2017 was crazy as production of Roadkill ramped up and we filmed several episodes in a short amount of time before the end of the year. Basically, I was gone for weeks at a time and when I got back home I spent a lot of time with my family rather than in my garage. That's not to say I wasn't busy. In December I got my car back from the body shop after having the old, peeling, vinyl wrap removed and a fresh coat of paint applied to the body. Then I built a new stainless steel exhaust system using parts from stainlesssteelh...
Blasphemi is now back together, doing burnouts and I'm looking forward to warmer weather and some track time. This video will show you how I built the new exhaust system. From the tools to the techniques I'll show you exactly how I welded a stainless steel exhaust system from readily available parts.
Oh and if you want to grab one of those cool see-through welding cups you can find them at dogfab.com/Home...

most of my tools are used. I just bought a rad snap-on Bluepoint tool cart off of Facebook marketplace last night. Met the dude in a parking lot and 200 bucks later I had a $1000 cart. Never had such a nice tool holder for my harbor freight ratchets. lol

Finnegan's Garage hahaha! Right on! I always find some decent goodies at HF and for the price I don’t feel ripped off if they don’t hold up. Idk why but every time I go I buy a scope on a rope (test light). I have a few dozens and have yet to have one go bad. You can’t buy a bulb for the price of one. Just buy a new on! An that big tool cart for $165 is the best deal ever!

Nothing wrong with hf ratchets....lifetime warrenty and its a walk in walk out swap. I have stood on an 8 foot cheater bar and didnt kill my 1/2 hf ratchet.

A shop without expendable every day use tools is a "trailer queen" variant of the shop world. I have my Mitutoyo measuring stuff, and i have my China direct import under 5 dollars carbon fiber and steel ones too. This mentality that all tools should be expensive and top of the line is antiquated and stupid. Ideally you have the full range. Ideally. Sure it takes a bit more space, but at the same time, sure as hell better to use a cheap tool to work on something that's potentially damaging than to use the expensive ones instead.

A side benefit of those turndowns seems to be that they push the tire smoke out and away from the car, so it doesn't fill the passenger compartment.

Hi Mike, well, i for one am guilty, so, I apologize. Of course your family comes before any car, and, a lot of people don't realize how long it takes to film an episode of RK. The pipe is smaller on the short end because of the clamp on the mandrel bender that grabs the tubing, to draw it over the mandrel and around the bend die.

We had a hydraulic exhaust machine at the shop back in my exhaust days. It had dies to expand, bend, and even a few dies to put ball flares on. That machine was really handy to have. I wasn't at that shop long enough to really get good at making exhaust, but I did do a few header back jobs and I enjoyed my time doing it.

might be stupid question but if the piping is slightly loose like finnegan showed...if you weld it in place it would not be loose anymore correct?! am i missing something? were the older pipes not welded in place on the collector

Blasphemi is an awesome build! 👌😎 I've got a technical question: Will the engine turn a little bit within the engine mounts under load? The side pipes seem to stay where they are, while reving up. Is there some tension at the flanges while hitting the pedal to the metal? Or do the mounts prevent any movement?
@FinnegansGarage
@FinnegansGarage 6 лет назад
the exhaust hangers are rubber mounted to the body of the car. The body is mounted solid to the chassis. The engine is solid mounted to the chassis. Everything moves a small amount due to the flex inherent in the metal but the rubber exhaust mounts help a lot. The v-band clamps on the side pipes help as well.
@WestBerlinCustoms
@WestBerlinCustoms 6 лет назад
Thanks a lot for your reply, Mike! I love US cars (>30 years), it became easy to get parts in Germany. I bagged my boxchevy Caprice and built my own stainless exhaust, too. But I had to add a flex element, because of the engine movement under load. So it was really interesting to read how the performance guys put it together. It must be fun to feel the torque of this massive engine in the frame and the body of the car. Once again - it's a great build. #thanksForSharingThisContent Cheers! 😉👍

You should get one of those hydraulic tube expanders. I mean, with the amount of pipe work you do on this channel alone, it would be worth the price. And there are some that are quite affordable.
@aserta
@aserta 6 лет назад
PS, they are good for more than just pipe expansion, i used mine recently to true out a piece of bent pipe IN the bend itself. If you get the snake type, you can actually (tho not recommended) use it as an anvil to work kinks out or bend pipe to true, from the inside of the pipe.
@FinnegansGarage
@FinnegansGarage 6 лет назад
the one i want is quite expensive. There's so many speed parts i want more so the tube expander will have to wait.

It's great , but the exhaust port shape still doesn't match the header tube. . . . .

It's larger than the exhaust port of the cylinder head and that's what matters.

Finnegan's Garage doesn't the step/different in sizes help with reversion, also?

it's just a dumb ass comment. like the car couldn't be fast with a Ls6, a Chevy 572 or a 429 cobra jet. I get so tired of hearing mopar chevy and Ford guy shit. it's mopar or no car. or do ford stands for first on raceday. etc etc etc. shut the fuck up. it makes car people sound dumb.
