As a Swede it’s interesting to know more about my brother people’s history. Your pre-christian religion is very similar to ours, but of course also unique in many ways. I think it’s important that we know more about our heritage and ancient traditions. You just got a new sub, keep doing these videos. They are very informative.
Another excellent video! I thought witches and curses played a prominent role in the early Finnish Armed forces? As a Canadian I was hoping that Finland would bring it’s magic forces into NATO . I feel the organization is lacking in the mystical aspect of warfare.
In Iron age, Finns become popular becouse of their mystic and magical powers✨. Witches and healers was in that time doctors and they known best medicines (herbs) for every healt problem🌿🌙.And some finss remembers this centuries years old folklore in these days🤫✨
I'm a direct descendant of some widely known local noaidi, or witches, who were known to do spells and put curses on people. maybe i should pick up the family tradition...
I love his dry sense of humor! And I am shocked that the almighty algorithm has not yet cast its blessings upon him. So therefore I give this comment as a sacrifice to the Almighty Algorithm!
Right, who knows how many independent groups was in Viking Age Finland. BUT, from the old names of the land and tribes, and the location of hilltop forts, one can deduct something. Suomalaiset tribe and Suomi placenames locate in south-western Finland's coast (suomalaiset translates as Finns). Hämäläiset tribe and Häme placenames cover most of southern-half Finland stretching from the Bay of Bothnia to the Finnish Gulf and western Lake Ladoga shores (translates as Tavastians). Archelogically deducted their Iron Age settlements started from the Kokemäki-river system. Karjalaiset-tribe and archeological Iron Age Karelia located Northern and North-Eastern side of Lake Ladoga and on the Karelian Isthmus (translates as Karelians). Iron Age Karelian tribe is result of Merovingian Age (before Viking Age) Tavastian immigration and local Vepsian tribe fusion. Then there were the saamelaiset/samit, who aren't ethnic Finns, although Sami-language separated from Early Proto-Finnic. They lived in Lapland and its south side in the Iron Age (translates as the Sami). There is a chain of hilltop forts going between the Tavastian and Karelian tribal lands, guarding the rivers that go from interrior Finland into Karelia. In the Crusade Age (following Viking Age in Finland) Karelians were allied with the Novgorodians. While Tavastians were under the protection of the Pope, Novgorod was enemy of the Papal state. Raids and war expeditions were frequent from Tavastia to Karelia and the other way around.
>Right, who knows how many independent groups was in Viking Age Finland This is a very good point to bring up. I think we often forget that the unified Finnish cultural identity we have today simply did not exist back then. So when people ask about Finns in the X age, we have to remember that this country was not culturally homogenous back then. For example, whenever I've seen someone ask about the connections between Norse and Finnish culture and mythology, the first response is always to ask what they mean by "Finnish", because that's going to have a big impact on the answer lol.
@Aurinkohirvi Please check more about Saamelaiset, they haven't always lived only in north Finland. For example Saimaa is very likely sami-originated name, so like Nuuksio. Hienoa kun ihmiset jakaa tietämystään!
Thanks so much! It is a lot of effort but I wouldn't be happy with anything less. I look forward to being able to put the time to do even richer illustrations.
I subbed your channel! I've been interested in Kalevala saga and Finnish history for a while. This channel is a gem! I'm also from Finland! See you at the market square, perkele!
Just found your channel and I have enjoyed watching some of your videos! Living in Finland and been loving to learn about these things of Finland. I’d take a look at the merchandise and thinking to get some as the designs are not found in normal stores 🙂👍.
As a student who just moved to Finland, I am super interested in knowing more about the culture. Unfortunately, I feel I had a lot of misconceptions due to pop culture and lack of research on my part. Really looking forward to learning more. Keep up the good work. Kiitos! P.S. I love how the satirical commentary adds humour to the connect. 😂
@@usamakhurshid5406 thanks! Glad to hear one of the reasons to do these in the first place was that there weren't good videos about Finnish history in English
Nope. It was time before we came from volgas bend.. thats the point what im most intrested.. newer the least anything after it is wery intresting too.. kirveskansan tulo ja niinpois päin
@@juhanivaltonen2456 I'm not sure If that was a joke or not. We never came from volgas bend. That is an old nationalist theory that is no longer supported.
Hmm, good question! I only know that they used to be outside for the biggest heating fire, poorly expressed but I mean "pre-heating" it. Still, we know that the smoky conditions brought a lot of eye problems (and others too, I'm sure, but remember reading about eyes).
Good question and I mean to do a video about the hillforts some time. The consensus is that they had a rock base without mortar and then wooden battlements. If I remember correctly, both vertical and horizontal could have been done. I don't know if they've found any traces or marks to indicate how the wooden construction would have been - long rotten away obviously. Horizontal structures are more commonly illustrated.
:D Mutta parin vuoden takaisista parin minuutin videoista on tultu lähemmäs kymmeneen minuuttiin, eli suunta on eteenpäin...

@@Anttimation thank you. I followed your instructions and bought a copy per Amazon. I live in Australia (AU) and I really like your animations and your sense of humour. I like history.
Getting more towards that way episode by episode. The next one which includes the Thirty Years' War doesn't have a single religion-based joke as far as I remember although they could almost have written themselves.
You are wrong you mean another creature than troll are Norwegian not finnish Hiisi and the the the Roman offer talking about the Germanic tribes the the native people of Norway Russia and Finland are called Sámi and Runic Viking and Germanic not finnish
