Geoff has a massive 4 octave range, he shows it in his tutorial video on how to sing low notes. He is probably the one person that most people listen to Voiceplay for but they really miss the pure tones of Cesar, the rock belt of Eli and the kickass sounds from Layne the beatboxer. The group as it is now is well suited and they harmonise so well, it's not surprising that they are award winners. Layne also does the initial mixing as well and passes it on to a professional mixer for the final tweaks. The result is, as you can hear, something that makes almost everyone raise an eyebrow in surprise.

One to listen to from Voiceplay is "Hoist the Colours" from the "Pirates of the Caribbean 3" movie. The harmonies and arrangement in that resulted in almost every reaction video with silence as they are left completely speechless by it. It's also worth listening to Geoff Castelucci singing "Misty Mountains Cold" from the Lord of the Rings movie. All parts are done by himself as is the video editing and mixing.

VoicePlay is masterful at mixing silly and professional; it's kind of their schtick. And Geoff- the bass singer- has around a five octave range. The descent that he does at the end actually spans from B4 to a subharmonic E1 (and those are neither his highest nor his lowest notes). He really displays his range and versatility to great effect on his solo channel, where he performs songs in a 4 or 5 part harmony, using his vocals for all parts. The results are amazing. And VoicePlay- all of the other guys are just as talented as Geoff. At the time of this video, I think they had all (with the exception of J. None) been singing together for nearly 10 years (Geoff, Layne- the beatboxer, and Earl- the guy with the beard all grew up together and have been singing as a group since about 1997). But what I've noticed over the last year, as they've had gaps in their lineup and brought in feature artists, is that they are exceptionally skilled at blending with just about anyone. All of their features fit in seamlessly, as though they'd been with the group for ages.
@kargyraa1

Geoff defines himself like a bass baritone or bassitone , last note was an astounding subharmonic E1 . Brava ;)
@Tryst46
@Tryst46 2 года назад
I'm sure that was lower than E1. I can go down to E1 fairly easily and I really struggled to get that last note in the Oogie Boogie song. In contrast, Geoff does his own version of "Misty Mountains Cold" where he hits an E1 at the end. That is at least a couple of notes higher than this one.

Voiceplay has really stepped up their game over the last year especially. My favorites are Hoist the Colours, Halo Theme Song and Warriors.
@Tryst46
@Tryst46 2 года назад
The Halo theme I didn't find as good, there are no words in it though, so it's mostly harmonising rather than singing. They are good at harmonising, but I prefer when they sing a song. Hoist the Colours is probably their best yet. They are going to have to go some to beat it in my view, but knowing Voiceplay, they will beat it.

I'm sure someone has said this already, but just in case: Geoff (the lead) has a 5 octave range, and can hit a sustained (subharmonic, I think) B0. He's an incredible standout in a group of incredible singers. Also, the beatboxer is always (in this video, at least) on the far right. Hope to see you look at some of his individual songs, as well as more of VoicePlay's works overall! :)

@CynicalTesuji
@CynicalTesuji 2 года назад
They're one of the Big Three a capella groups out there right now, with Pentatonix and Home Free. For some reason though, they don't get as much publicity, but they are easily as talented. (Personally, I like their style far better than the other two, but your mileage may vary.)
@Tryst46
@Tryst46 2 года назад
@@CynicalTesuji Personally, I think Voiceplay easily beat the other two you named. Their style is far more varied, from family musicals like the Moana Medley right up to rock opera and more. Layne is a far better beatboxer than most of the groups I've heard, some of the noises he makes seem impossible for a human voice. Eli's rock belt is amazing considering he appears to be doing it without any effort at all. Cesar has such a pure and clear voice too, close your eyes and you would think it's a 12 year old singing. As for Geoff, well, he even does his own productions that really show off his range and versatility. When they pick a singer to accompany them, they adapt to the new voice so well that you would think all of them have been singing together for years.
@CynicalTesuji
@CynicalTesuji 2 года назад
@@Tryst46 You're preaching to the choir, here. VoicePlay is far and away the better artistic option. They easily work twice as hard and take far more creative risks. That sets them apart as true artists, not merely performers (which, not sorry, is how I view Pentatonix).

Анна, возможно вам есть смысл поближе познакомиться с творчеством господина Кастеллуччи. Например, он сольно исполняет старинную песню "16 тонн", составляя при этом квартет с самим собой. Anna, perhaps it makes sense for you to get to know Mr. Castellucci's work better. For example, he performs the old song "16 tons" solo, while composing a quartet with himself.

You likely already know who Peter Hollens is (if not please react to something, _anything_ by him immediately) and Home Free is another accapella group like Voiceplay with a bass that, well Geoff and Tim Faust talk about each other positively and with admiration. Home Free's cover of the song 'Alvira' feat. the original artists, the Oak Ridge Boys' and Peter Hollens' cover of 'Misty Mountains Cold' feat. Tim Faust of Home Free were both arranged by Geoff.

Oih, Voiceplay! Heillä on paljon teatteri- ja elokuvamusiikkia. Musavideot tuppasi ennen olemaan aika tylsiä, mutta viime aikoina he ovat panostaneet puvustukseen ym enemmän. Esimerkiksi Karibian merirosvoelokuvista tuttu Hoist the Colours. Amerikanmaan a cappellan kolme kovaa: kantrikutoinen Home Free, poppahtava Pentatonix ja teatraalinen Voiceplay. Kaikki erittäin hyviä ja taitavia - suosikki määräytyy ehkä juurikin musiikkityylin perusteella. Itse kallistun vahvasti Home Freen puoleen. Omia suosikkejani ovat Man of Constant Sorrow, Folsom Prison Blues (alkup Johnny Cash!), ja joulua lähestyttäessä Do You Hear What I Hear. Tiedän että tykkäät live-esityksistä.. yleisön kännyköillä kuvaamissa videoissa on yleensä surkea äänenlaatu, mutta Country Rebelin kanavalla on pari ihan hyvänlaatuista videota. There’s a section where one (maybe more) of the background singers are doing these staccato arpeggios that are fabulous. Also Geoff, the lead and bass singer, does some really nice riffs in the background. It’s hard to appreciate it all going through just one time, but you nailed it on the best parts.

@@lkayh Please do! If you go back to immediately after Layne (beatboxer who is playing Zero in this) says "to add a little spice", you can hear Geoff do a short run (watch his hands - that is always a clue!). Geoff just released his cover of Monster Mash where he sings with himself self as Dr. Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman and the Frankenstein Monster. It is a lot of fun. One of my favorite recent pieces is Hoist the Colours from Pirates of the Caribbean 3. It is a virtual tapestry of sound. And it is performed with a brand new member as well as a guest collaborator. The arrangement (done by Geoff this time. He and Layne trade off with Eli (tenor 2) jumping in from time to time. By the way, Santa was played by Geoff's brother-in-law with Eli (Pronounced L.E. -short for Eliezar) doing the voice over. Subscribing in hopes that you will be covering more of both Voice Play and Geoff.

@@janetdw That’s Eli’s voice doing Santa? Wow. It’s so perfect! I have noticed that Geoff sings with his hands. Another singer I really respect-Dimash-does the same. I wonder if maybe some voice teachers suggest it? I tend to talk with my hands, and somehow my gestures help my brain focus on what I’m trying to say. It's clever, creative, and as you say, professionally performed. In spite of being a "Boogie Man/Creepy" theme, it doesn't get heavy & grungy with distortion. It has a light-hearted tone to it. Nothing seems to be "overdone." I also like those rhythmic adornments that move the different parts along. The lead singer has a beautiful low range timbre and wow! He also has a well-supported and controlled high range. I'd like to hear more of him. Anna...Again, your analysis and comments are so clear and well explained. These groups are all acapella. Yes Geoff Castellucci is one of the top 3 Acapella bass singers. The other 2 are Tim Foust of Home Free and Avi Kaplan formerly of Pentatonix ( he is now pursuing a solo career). Pentatonix are the clean cut "student council kids", VoicePlay are the "theater kids" and Home Free are the "4H Club kids ( the country/ farm kids)

This is a great introduction to VoicePlay, and a lovely reaction to watch. I think you're the first reacter I've seen who was not surprised at the low note at the end. Geoff Castellucci is the bass, and he has his own RU-vid channel with some fantastic cover songs. I recommend Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold or Sixteen Tons to get started. VoicePlay have tons of great stuff on their channel too. Particularly fun is their medley of songs from The Little Mermaid. Or, for something completely different, please react to Blackbriar - Arms of the Ocean (acoustic live).

I love them. Geoff's range is 5 octaves from a growl at A0 or Ab0, subharmonics at B0, chest at F#1, top note at A5.

Another piece of music that exhibits Geoff Castellucci's deep base would be Voiceplay's "My Mother Told Me". His range is definitely amazing though...most people seem to agree that he can hit an E1 without difficulty...but then jump into a high tenor in his next breath. I'm not a singer by any stretch of the imagination, but I still find that amazing.

So you do appreciate acapella. This is another promo for Voctave. With 11 voices, Master arranger/founder Jamie Ray can achieve any sound he imagines but sometimes he wants to save all his instruments for the foundation and bring in featured artist from other groups. For the Disney Love Medely he invited Kirsten (from PTX) and her then-fiance/part time singer. This clip is from the first read-through with the guests. See how they react...it's special. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rjZpz0EvnV8.html

You should definitely react to Geoff's rendition of "The Misty Mountains cold", a song taken from The Hobbit's first installment. Geoff did the arrangement and sang all vocal parts himself and I don't think I've heard a better version of that song.

You will also love some of their other offerings like the Littlest Mermaid or Moana [guess I should go and see if you have already done those]

hank you for a very detailed and informative video reaction. I enjoyed it very much. VoicePlay has a lot of fun with holiday music videos. For future Halloween videos, may I suggest 2 ladies who sing and play the Harp. They are identical twins who call themselves the Harp Twins. They have a whole list of Halloween related videos on their You Tube Home page. Review it and see which song looks interesting to you. One last request, please avoid the sunlight.

You asked who is doing the beatboxing. That would be Layne. He is the guy with the glowing nose to the right in the shot (Who had the "To add a little spice"). He is founding member of voiceplay and does a lot of the production composition work. You should really do a reaction to voiceplay singing "My mother told me". It's a great chance to see the different members. And it's a repeating theme that they keep adding variations to throughout the song. It would be cool to hear you giving the play by play.
