Fionna and Cake Was Peak Adventure Time 

17:14 Obviously meant for this title card to be "6 Things That Couldn’t Have Been Better (and 3 Things That Could Have)" Anyway, with this video, I think I'm finally done covering these 10 episodes! Thanks again to everybody who has watched any of my stuff about this show, as it's genuinely been the most fun I've ever had doing this channel!

This might be a slightly controversial take, but as someone who avoided previews and advertisements for the show prior to release, I never built up the expectation of the Scarab being the main villain. Thus, I wasn't particularly disappointed when he didn't live up to the apparent hype when it turned out he was more of a petty, bureaucratic thorn in the protagonists' sides than a genuinely major threat. Furthermore, I honestly think _Fionna and Cake_ didn't need a typical, literal bad guy to defeat since the driving force behind Fionna and Simon's arcs wasn't external but internal, which meant their acceptance of key aspects of their circumstances was what resolved their core struggles.

I can honestly say that Adventure Time wasn't just a "wonderful experience"; it was...everything.

I really loved how this show felt like a breath of fresh air. Even more so than in Distant Lands. I enjoyed being able to still see the influence of the original story, but the new storyline was very strong to me!

I think you judged Cake a little too harshly, she wasn't *just* being a jerk. She was frustrated with Fiona not letting her use her powers to help out. Especially since she was obviously a powerhouse and could hold her own. Fiona, however, still saw Cake as her pet. Keep in mind that this Fiona wasn't raised side by side with Cake! Finn and Fiona both have wildly different childhoods. Cake sees herself as a formidable adult while Fiona infantilizes her (with good reason). That can be frustrating for anyone, yes she lashed out but it wasn't for no reason.

So glad that we're talking about the catchiness of baked with love because it has been haunting me everyday since the episode aired and I can't get it to leave....

I honestly enjoyed Scarab throughout a lot of the show. I understand why people don’t like him very much and don’t judge that opinion at all but I found him really entertaining especially during his introduction in Prismo the Wishmaster, which for me was the highlight of that episode, and his scenes throughout Jerry which were just beautiful to look at and fun to watch in general. Him not being very threatening is definitely a valid complaint but it didn’t really bother me since there were so many other villains throughout the show that I thought fit that category really well. I also want to say you are by far my favorite RU-vidr and you were the one who got me back into Steven Universe after your episode on Mirror Gem and Ocean Gem, and I’m now on the final season and am so thankful to you for reigniting my interest in it. I would love it if you did an analysis video on the adventure time episode Is That You.

Even tho Willow Smith didn't come back to voice Beth, I was pleasantly surprised by the actress who she was replaced with: Imani Hakim who played Tonya in Everybody Hates Chris

They did seem to have a hard time characterizing Cake. I liked her at the beginning during her expo episode but she rarely feels like she fills the role of Jake.

I think Scarab has the main purpose of preventing the journey of being too easy. He holds Prismo captive, if he didn't then the gang would probably go to different universes that wouldn't challenge them and then it's just get the crown and go.

I like to think of Scarab as a kind of red herring antagonist, as the real antagonist in the show is everyone's internal struggle. Even he has an internal struggle with his jealousy of Prismo, his obsession with bureaucratic perfection, and his unwillingness to accept his position in life. Honestly, these themes kind of mirror Fionna and Simon's struggles as well. I also enjoyed the small taste of insight his plot gave into what I'll call the interdimensional bureaucracy. (Also how everybody in it seems to be completely happy overlooking Prismo's unsanctioned universe just because he's popular lmao. There's some real satire in Scarab's arc)

Ngl, it'd be also interesting if they made a show about finns and jakes next incarnations (if they're not shermy and beth)

Speaking of “adventure timey-ness”, I felt this series was more THAT than Distant Lands…which wasn’t nearly as that as I wanted it to be.

I in the other hand my top 3 are : 3 . Simon Petrikoff 2. Farmworld episode. 1. Prismo the wishmaster. Its interesting that the episode of prismo its all in his cube, and at the same time its reveal to us some interesting world building dinamics,

Jerry was my favorite too! Whenever AT drops the characters into a world where everyone’s disappeared makes for awesome vibesss

So in a nutshell, adventure time has the opposite problem when it comes to villains compared to Disney.

This show was so damn good it made me binge watch all of adveture time. A show that I never originally finished.

My personal opinion is that it was a great show let down by an awkward ending. While I was left a bit underwhelmed, the show was still amazing to watch each week!

I think the songs were the one aspect of F and C that didn't hit me as hard as I would have liked (especially compared to some of the songs from Distant Lands), but they are all beautifully written and performed. I would say I liked Cake's and Winter King's songs best because of the way they played out in-scene and not over it. I feel like I'm one of a very few who found little to no problems with this spinoff; The Lich's story arc needed to end, he was a great antagonist but I was even a bit tired of him in Together Again. His own hubris causing his punishment is poetic justice too, plus if he hadn't been cubed, he'd always be a threat to Simon which goes against GolBetty's programming. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and likes and dislikes, but I think people are being way too harsh on this spinoff. It's understandable to be disappointed if theories didn't pan out (I know I was when Malus/Abraxus didn't turn up), but what we got is beautiful. It's wonderfully animated and voice acted (especially Tom Kenny), it gives us some much needed closure and some fun looks at old friends, but it's a new set of adventures with different characters. I love that it's different from the main series and even Distant Lands while still being Adventure Time.

There’s two more adventure time spin-offs I’d like to see. The years directly after the mushroom war. Shermy and Beth.

Adventure Time doesn't really handle villains that well, and Scarab is probably the prime example of it. Most of the struggles of the characters and the way the story moves forward comes from the characters' own issues and the situations. Honestly it's a much more interesting way to structure a story.

A bit after the show wrapped up I had the song "Blue Shift" (the ending song) recommended to me on RU-vid, and the album art was of a anthro white bunny with blond hair. The video is from 2 years ago so idk if it was planned, but it made me appreciate the ending song more even if it's not my favorite lol.

Honestly, the scene between Betty and Simon might be my favorite scene in anything I've ever seen. I love the maturity of realizing that they made mistakes, and things could have been better, but ultimately, they don't regret their relationship. I've rewatched that scene so many times, and I love it more each time I watch it.

As everyone can agree most likely, for a spinoff, they did an AMAZING job, because usually spin offs use a bit of lore and then create something new, they were pulling a lot from the original series that it just feels like another season rather than spinoff. The style, the animation, songs and everything has still the same feel, but its so much better looking. I'd like to have another season, cause there are still some things unsaid. I do understand that they have ended it properly, since today's shows get cancelled every day and left unfinished, but they still left some stuff if they'd get greenlit for another seaoson. Also, I dont see anyone talking about it, and maybe it's not that deep, but we see throughout entire show, Fionna and Cake having same dreams, from the first ever scene (cause we saw cake swimming on bed), to end title of every episode to even the last episode where Fionna have the nightmare when her world became magical, Cake said she has the same dream. Maybe it's just a plot choice, but usually two people dont have the same dreams every time unless there's something involved? I've been really enjoying your reviews and pointing out things I have missed!

Adventure time raised me I NEED more

It’s insane to me how we they handle the multiverse stuff in this series. As someone who personally is burnt out on multiverses enough to have been underwhelmed by spider verse 2, I actually loved how they utilized it. Farmworld felt like an event when I saw it on tv as a kid, and seeing it come back in a way that mattered ruled.

I went in thinking i will hate it but i loved it

i would love a show about just simon and betty before the mushroom war. finn and huntress wizard would be awesome. i would also like to see what happened to farm world finn. i hope he didn’t die and his kids are just left to fend for themselves now

How about the main song

This is just an idea but it would be interesting if the second season tackles Fionna & Cake being the "heroes" (but mainly Fionna) when determining the fate of their universe (from Ice King's magical world to canonically non-magical). At the end, she made a wish to stay non-magical but others didn't get a say on that. What if, for some reason, there's someone in her universe that remembers themself being magical (during Ice King era) and tries to bring it back? We never get to see much of Ooo's villain counterparts in Fionna's world. Honestly, Ice Queen is criminally underused as an ice cream lady. I'd love to see Ice Queen "awaken" and wanted to rule Fionna's world to bring back magic, but that may not be possible since she's technically Ice King's counterpart (and Ice King is gone). Ice Queen also created her own fanfiction of her magical world, so it would be interesting if that universe turned out to be real, but it's closed off from the multiverse. It cracks open because Fionna's world is canonical (and may have caused some possible side effects). TLDR this is my "fanfic" if they ever return for Season 2. We need to see more villains in Fionna's world.

I desperately want a Shermy and Beth spinoff, even a little one, like a Distant Lands episode. I liked them enough in the AT finale, but then I learned about all the Pup lore Steve Wolfhard put in from RU-vidrs like Uncivilized Elk, and I fell in love with the idea of that world. I feel like if you factor into the equation the number of AT fans who have actually seen the finale, and the number of fans who at least watched Fionna and Cake, there's enough knowledge of them to make marketing the show work. You just need a couple 'Who are Shermy and Beth?' videos on RU-vid, maybe even ones CN puts out themselves. It's an easily accessible way to get people caught up and interested in the concept.

In my opinion, what i want for future adventure time content is some new comics again, or maybe even new copies of older comics (cough cough fionna and cake party blues bash) If they do make a season two though, I'd image it'll just follow fionna trying to find a job, while going on some wacky adventures

To be fair Cake was just turned from a normal cat and hasn’t had enough time to think on a deeper level. it makes sense she would just tunnel vision on what sounds good and get frustrated when it seems like Fionna was holding her back from being herself It’s a contrast to Finn and Jake’s dynamic and I enjoyed the spin. Finn is always eager to leap head first into danger and getting Jake to maximize his potential was always a hassle as the guy was pretty lazy or head strong on his ideology of life can’t be too easy. Cake ACTIVELY gets involved into conflict and takes charge of certain situation because she knows she has the power to do it. When she gets the hang of her stretching she demonstrates a ridiculous level of skill and creativity that Jake could only match through deep concentration or when put into a situation where he’s forced to take it seriously. Like seriously almost everyone at some point has thought “this problem would be solved SO easily if Jake just got really big” and Cake doing exactly that in the finale, even going as far as to be a literal kaiju was so awesome despite her losing the fight.

I think it's interesting that you don't like the Scarab, because I think he's perfect for what he is. Like I get your point that technically they could have made the show without Scarab, but I think he's a good plot progresser, that doesn't take attention from the parts of the show that most people cared about, the character arcs of Simon and Fionna.

I just wish this was 15 episodes now like the last two episodes didn’t meet my expectations and there could be more done in the other universes. Also one thing I hate is how fionna keeps saying that something is in her top 3 fantasies. Another is the end with Jay because it felt too random.

I loved this entire series, but my only complaint is the ending and choosing a non magical world. It would make sense for the world to end magical because it was originally magic, and only lost magic because of being in Simon's head when he became normal. Choosing a world without magic neglects their entire existence as prismo's original creation and all the time that passed before the betty golb wish.

If I were to have written the show, this is how it would've gone. Fiona's conflict, as laid out in the first couple episodes, is that she wants to be magical. This drive for magic is further expressed when she learns that Cake is magical and she isn't, now holding some animosity towards her. The conflict that spurs between Fionna and Cake, is that Fionna is having second thoughts about making their world magical, as she now understands that even with a magical world she won't have magic herself, further fueling her feeling of unimportance. In the finale they explain to everyone what's going on and everyone is on board with becoming magical, especially Cake. However, Fionna not wanting to go back to feeling unimportant, tries to convince everyone that they shouldn't. This causes a big argument between Fionna and Cake, with Cake expressing how Fionna has been selfish all because she can't handle the idea of not being the star of the world. Fionna gets the dandelion at the end, and after much consideration, she makes the world magical, getting over her feeling of inadequacy and defeating Scarab. She learns that life with or without magic has importance and meaning, and that purpose isn't given to you, but rather what you make for yourself.

You also forgot to mention that baby finn was left in vampire world, so we might get a spinoff about him growing up as a vampire hunter 😮

So… what if the Star universe, where Marcie never had Simon because he died, is the universe where Simon got on the bus with Betty? And so he never found the crown, and thus didn’t survive the apocalypse. Kind of a sad catch 22.

yk the ice king started off as pretty off putting and a sort of unserious villain beyond their introduction too imo so i have hope for in a potential season two that they give scarab more depth especially since i believe prismo rubs off on everyone but also ice king/simon level arc might be too high of a bar lol

About Adventure Time next shows: Finn & Huntress Wizard would probably work better as supporting cast (Marshall & Gary level) for another character in Ooo. Maybe Sweet Pea and/or Brownwynn. Shermy & Beth would need a known character flung into the future for marketability reasons. I can't think of a good character who's well known enough that narrativly fits, the best I can think of is a revived Fern or Susan. Fionna & Cake season 2 could have Orbo grant Fionna, Cake.& a team of dimension hoppers Scarrabs job. Personally I say give spotlight to Cuber & make an anthology out of it.

A HW & Finn show would be great, it can start off with a pregnant or just given birth HW. Her and Finn would be like the new version of Jake’s Parents.. being full circle for Finn .. they have to deal with people holding grudges against them and still trying to adventure while having kids /responsibilities etc

I disagree. It wasn’t nearly what it could’ve been. It left a lot of things unknown and had an extremely anticlimactic ending. Felt like they just wanted to get out concepts and ideas rather then further existing plots outside of Fionna, cake, And Simon.
