This band has many hidden gems Once you get past So Into You and Imaginary Lover, that everyone wants you to react to, you will find a treasure trove of very good music.
Ronnie Hammond, lead singer graduated from my High School. His brother was my Next-door neighbor at my first apartment and I worked with Ronnie’s wife. Plus loved their music. Especially Ronnie’s voice.
ARS is a great Southern Rock band. A little more mellow than some. The Ballad of Lois Malone, Champagne Jam, I'm Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight, etc. All worthy of your time.
The smoothest Southern Rock band in my opinion. Like bands at the time, Dr. Hook, Pablo Cruise, Player, Exile, and others they had the ability to crossover and appeal to audiences they or their label may not have realized they could reach.
So glad you guys liked this group. The late 70's & early 80's were the heyday for blue-eyed soul. This group, along with Ambrosia, Hall & Oates, Player, Boz Skaggs and The Doobie Brothers/Michael McDonald, all had several hits in the genre.
I grew up with the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Was lucky to see them live several times. One of their best songs is “Doraville”, the place I first lived in GA.
Small world they use to practice in the neighborhood of oak cliff subdivision which was behind the street I lived on Johnson Dr you could here them from our back yard. Never got to see them live but it didn’t matter, I could hear them almost every week.
I’m so glad y’all finally got around to this group. I took a girl to an Atlanta Rhythm Section new years eve concert on Dec. 31, 1977. We are still into each other… 46 yrs later! Good vibes…great band!
I remember listening to Atlanta Rhythm Section in the 70's. I have always loved their music. They performed at our fair last year. A friend who wasn't even born yet in the 70's went with me and she fell in love with their music that night.
Two of their members came from 1960's group "Classics IV". As some have mentioned, ARS have redone Classics IV hit "Spooky". That definitely deserves a good listen! Thanks Guys!
OMG, I didn't realize two of their members came from the Classics IV! My husband and I are musicians and we play "Spooky" -- originally learned it for Halloween, then decided it was too good for one holiday!
Nice reaction guys... you will enjoy their hit entitled "Spooky"... there is a groovy feel to the song that is "mysterious" and feel-good-addictive!!! Enjoy🎺🎺🎼🎼 You Might also try Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized... and Sugarloaf - Green Eyed Lady.
I was a stagehand in the 70's and this was the album that was used for setting up the sound board during that era by many. Rich, thick, variable, rhythms with just a little spicy lead guitar.
HEY guys this was their first chart single reached number 5 on Billboard pop singles chart in 1977 their other top ten song is called Imaginary lover In 1978 they had 3 other top 20 singles in later years groups that are similar to them are Climax Blues Band and Pablo cruise keep up the good work guys
This is such an amazing song. It was all over the radio back in the day. I am so glad you guys finally did some ARS. Neon Nights, Imaginary Lover and Champagne Jam are three more of their songs. I think you guys will really enjoy.
Just saw ARS in Wausau, Wisconsin two weeks ago. Sadly, only one surviving member but they sounded great! Love Champagne Jam, Spooky, Imaginary Lover, and I’m Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight. Great bluesy, southern rock jam band!
And we lost that last surviving member, Dean Daughtry just recently. He wanted to hit the 50 yr mark with ARS, but made it to 49 & retired due to health issues.
Y’all FINALLY Did some ARS!!!! Not just homeboys, but friends. I was buds with the original crew, serving them Tex-Mex in the 80’s, to jamming with the current lineup with local folks.
I have been waiting for you to react to this group,! Absolutely love them. They are so smooth!!!!!! Imaginary Lover , Champagne Jam, and I'm Not Gonna Let it Bother Me Tonight are a must!!! Many days I'll listen to their greatest hits album at work. Perfection!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw them in the late 70's when they opened for Charlie Daniels. I was in high school at the time and other than The Midnight Special you didn't get many chances to see a band live outside of a concert. It was always a thrill to finally see a band live who's albums and/or 8 tracks you had practically worn out.
Greetings Jay and Amber! Thank you for the way you do what you do! To be able to watch and then re-feal how it was the first time is freakin heart warming]! Next time you're into hearing ARS, try "Champagne Jam"! All the best!'...always! Jon M.
I never get third of this song! It is my favourite of all their hits and by far their most widely known hit. A mega hit Soft Rock single by this Southern Rock band.
Guys I can't tell you how happy I am y'all got around to this group. They gave a lot of great songs. Some of my fellow listeners gave already mentioned. I hope you two take deep trip down this rabbit hole.
I have been recommending this smooth ARS classic for almost a year. I knew you both would thoroughly enjoy. Now to check out Imaginary Lover, Spooky, Champagne Jam and Georgia Rhythm just to name a few.
All these songs you guys been reacting to reminds of my school bus rides, the bus driver played nothing but 70’s….and all of us kids were digging his vibes. 🔥👍🏼
I'm glad you guys are finally getting to ARS, and hope you continue the journey. Everybody is going to suggest that you do "Spooky" or "Imaginary Lover". But I would suggest that you do their classic gems; "Doraville", "Jesus Hearted People", "Boogie Schmoogie", "Cuban Crisis", "Champaign Jam"... Just listen to all of them.
One of my favorite southern rock bands. They are not your typical s r band they incorporate elements of jazz, progressive, and a little country into their music. They were huge in the late 70s and early 80s. They used to hold a music festival every July in Atlanta. It was called 'Champagne Jam'. A lot of different bands would appear every year. It was a big party in the ATL. Songs you should check out are: Spooky(a great cover of the 60s song), Champagne Jam, Not Gonna Let It Bother Me Tonight, Doraville(my personal favorite), and many others. These guys were excellent musicians. A lot of them are gone now. I guess the curse of southern rock. Dig deeper into this band. You will not be disappointed.
Lots of awesome music from this group. Composed of studio musicians for Studio One recording studio in Doraville, Ga. They formed their own band and put out several albums. Some great songs, Champagne Jam, Doraville, Sky High, Large Time, Imaginary Lover, many others.
LOL. It’s not Atlantic Rhythm Section. It’s the Atlanta Rhythm Section or as we all called them, ARS. My mom & stepdad lived in the same apartment complex as them in the 70’s. Check out their song Doraville. It’s one of the cities in metro Atlanta where the lived.
Will never forget seeing them live close to 45 years ago. It was in 1978, the initial Champaign jam at the then Grant Field in downtown Atlanta. It was just after they released the album of the same name. Bought two $13.50 general admission tickets. It was our second date with my now wife of 43 years. A.R.S. as they were referred to, was the headline band along with The Doobie Brothers, Santana, Mothers Finest, Mose Jones and Eddie Money. I remember it was a hot day in early September. We sat in the grass in the field on a blanket, when we were not standing. Little did we realize at the time that most of those bands would be legendary. Probably the best concert we ever attended.
Loved the way Jay was looking at Amber when she was describing how this song makes her feel. The next song you should react to is Spooky. Another really good “put you in the mood” song is Careless Whisper by George Michaels. The sax in that song is both really cool and beautiful. I know you’d enjoy it. ✌️❤️
Barry Bailey on the solo at the end - maybe one of the most unknown and under-appreciated great guitarists. Thanks so much Jay and Amber for getting into ARS. I'd love to see you do reactions to "Free Spirit", "Indigo Passion" and "While Time Is Left" - none of them often given much exposure like their hits, but they're all great compositions.
I remember it like it was yesterday Year 1977, age 14, location in my brothers car, in the mall arcades, on the radio everywhere, result Life Is Good😎☺ ARS was everywhere in the mid-late 70's and the funny thing is because the 70 and 80s were so original and fantastically flooded with awesome music this was the kind of unique sound and high-quality music we expected to come out new every week or month on thet radiobut now sadly we realize like with all Greatness it was only for a short while. I have been waiting for you to get to this one for quite awhile. Thanks
I was born in Atlanta in the 70’s and my parents were so into this band. My father was also apart of a recording band in ATL called Cotton, during this time and opening up for lots of 70’s funky type recording artists during this time. He was actually opening up for Fats Domino the night I was born. But my parents LOVED Atlanta Rhythm Section the most. I probably heard them when I was in the womb. Also, Allman Brothers. I know they saw them when I was in the womb. These two bands were the favorites in ATL back on the day.
The first live concert I attended was ARS opening for Lynyrd Skynyrd in Miami back in 1976. I was so blown away by the experience I went on to attend well over 100 more. Concerts in the 70s and 80s were epic and so was the music!
Wife here..One of my FAVORITE songs of all time..,I've heard this song classified as "Urban Night Sound" also "Blue Eyed Soul.."Very prevalent mid to late 70's and early 80's...I Adore this sound!!!
Great reaction to another stone cold classic. This song always haunted me and captured me on first listening. This was kind of how I felt about my first girlfriend. And I remember dancing with her to this song.
When I was 16 we used to go to a small studio in Doraville, GA to listen to them play. Great times. They have a song called Doraville that's pretty good. Please check out another GA band, Mothers Finest from around the same era. Baby love, Piece of the rock, Thank you for the love are worth listening to.
This is a track from their 1976 album "A Rock and Roll Alternative" which is outstanding. Brings back memories of great times in Southern California in the late seventies. The name of the guitarist who impressed Jay is Barry Bailey. By the way, the correct name of the band is, ATLANTA ( as in Georgia) Rhythm Section.
