Love me some Billy. "The Stroke" remains my favorite of his just because of one of the catchiest riffs of all time. "In the Dark" is also a banger, as is "Emotions in Motion", "Rock Me Tonite" and "Don't Say You Love Me". So glad you are diving down this rabbit hole! (Also - he had a Christmas song, so write this down for when December rolls around - "Christmas Is the Time To Say I Love You".)

Billy Squier wrote one of my favorite lyrics in this song. "You've got your glory. You've paid for it all. You take your pension in loneliness and alcohol." The steep price of fame. Emptiness. What does it profit a man to gain the whole world only to lose his own soul?
@RockPowerUSA
@RockPowerUSA 2 года назад
I agree and that phrase sums it all up perfectly. As long as you don't keep dipping into alcohol later then you can be immortal like some of the bands out there. Old guys still cranking in out, not on illegal drugs, but regular medical prescription drugs to shake those aging aches off. I am so glad I was born in the 60s listening to songs growing up and now sharing that with our young couple giving us three times a day Play rekindling some of our best memories.

Billy was huge and insanely popular. He was all over the radio and MTV until he released Rock Me Tonight. Billy was known as a rock guy and his video came across to his base of fans as less than rock and people questioned his sexuality. He lost a lot of his base, even though it was total BS. I love that song and video.

"The Stroke" NEEDS to be your next Billy Squier song - followed by "My Kinda Lover," "Emotions In Motion, "In The Dark," "Don't Say No" and "I Need You." + it's been far too long since you've reacted to The Police/Sting! Please consider bringing them back on the channel! "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," "Don't Stand So Close To Me," "King Of Pain," "Wrapped Around Your Finger," "Roxanne," "De Do Do Do De Da Da Da," "Message In A Bottle," are fantastic Police songs (their music vids are always a must) and Sting's solo career is amazing, I think Amber will really love his solo music especially: "Brand New Day," "Englishman In New York" and "The Shape Of My Heart" are a great place to start. "I Burn For You" is a personal favorite, his performance in Brimstone And Treacle, the movie the song is in, is so creepy. Sting was originally a teacher as well! ✌🏻💚✨

Now, this is a biggie, one of his biggest as far as being hugely played...and while it's a cautionary tale, the tune is tight all the way around...you can tell that Billy and his band are at the top of their game and totally in synch musically...can't beat it with a stick! One of my favorite tracks by him is "Lover" - not to be confused with "My kind of lover" - off the criminally underrated "Creatures of habit" album from 1991. I was in my 20s in the '80s, but I didn't discover Billy Squier and develop an appreciate for his music until hearing it played on oldies-classic rock radio in the early 2000s. I must not have listened to stations that played his type of music in the '80s. Now he's one of my favorites from the '80s. Better late than never, I guess.

Amber, you nailed it! Yes, the song is about being in the spotlight. I'm so glad y'all are digging some Billy Squier. He's so underrated. Keep 'em coming. You guys rock! 🤘 OH! And thank you for spelling 'Squier' correctly. I mean, it's been misspelled many many times thru the years, but you'd be surprised how many people spell it wrong (Squire) even when it's right there in front of them! Lol. 😉

And before he was a solo artist in the 80's, in the 70's he was a member of the band Piper, which had a little bit of success, alot of people think he just came on the scene, when his solo albums came out, but he had already been around for awhile.

Just listened to this on the radio driving home from the horseraces. Was actually turned down pretty low (wife and I are 50 give us some slack). Pretty soon we are both singing it under our breaths. She looked at me, turned it up some and we both broke out singing lol! Reminded me this reaction was on my "to do" list!

My favorite Billy Squier track is Emotions In Motion. Can't wait for y'all to react to it. Freddy Mercury and Queen did backing vocals in that song. I believe some Guitar Work..as well.

For 2 consecutive World Tours, he started in Tulsa. I saw the first one. Awesome show- in fact, it was supporting this LP. Billy is amazing, just wish he'd come back.

Killed his career with one video - him tearing his pink tshirt and dancing around - death knell to his career and never to recover again.

Late 70's. It was the song dedicated to me every night at The Skate Place. A friend (a dj) played it to me as a joke. It lived a life of its own. He said he started having 30+ dedications of that song to me nightly. Lol he and I laughed about it. I even made a skate routine to it. High school days were the best.

Great underrated song. Since you're on the 80s, I highly recommend The Pretenders. Two songs by them. Brass in Pocket. '79'. And Middle of the Road '84 Just subscribed so don't know if you already listened to them

I just listened to this in the kitchen while I was washing dishes...lol. It turns out you wash the pots way faster listening to this. Pretty much every song on this album was aimed at the bloodsuckers, hangers on, and users in the music business. It's a lot deeper than it appears.

Great Billy Squire songs: In the Dark, My kind of Lover, She's a runner, Learn how to Live, In your eyes, Nobody Knows and Rock me tonight. Just a few, you can pick any song on his albums and it will be a good one.

Billy Squire had been a very successful artist in the '80s and was all over MTV, until the music video for his single "Rock Me Tonight" came out. The video wrecked his career - almost overnight.

You misspelled his name. Did you know Billy had a clause in his performance contracts that if the promoters misspelled his name, he got a royalty payment?

That album is chocked full of hits.. but of all his songs.. "The Stroke" is my all time favorite.. He has so many .. and I mean so many songs recorded and written.. you have a long way to get into the "set" of songs for Mr Squier ..

I close my eyes, it’s 1982, we’re playing a blues/R&B show at an 18-and-under concert, and some jerk in a rival band “can’t you ******s play some rock!” The drummer and I are the white guys in the band, he says “Everybody Wants You. Guys, follow our lead.” First and only time I sang lead; our audience didn’t need to suffer.

Love Billy. Saw him for Pat Benatar, at Red Rocks. Wow what a show that was. Lonely is the Night, has some of Billy's signature riffs. Another band from this time frame is the Call. Great stuff from them. Thanks again.
