Congratulation to Mike Kelly, the winner of this give-a-way. Mike please email your address and phone number to me at mark.eric.young@gmail.com Thanks to everyone who entered and keep watching for the return of Fire Maple products to Amazon
I received the pot yesterday and it is fantastic. I took it on a hike, steamed some Siu Mai in the steamer basket, and made some tea and miso soup while I was at it. It exceeded expectations in all regards. Thanks Mark and Fire Maple!
As a layperson all I can say is that this man really does seem to do his homework and has the requisite experience to absolutely back up the reviews. Bullet-proof reviews are in short supply on RU-vid, but not on this channel. Superb content, thank you from the UK.
When cooking over a fire soot stains the pot up to the level of the food. To keep soot away from the rim of the pan it is recommended that the level of food in the pot not come to with in an inch of the top. A cook that had been certified to cook over a wood fire told me that. He was a cook at a historic site. So I am glad that the makers of these cook pots do not expect people to fill the pot to the top. Also if you use the steamer basket the food should be below that anyway. Mary B Walsh. Interested in the pot give away.
Thank you for this review... like all the others! You always bring us lot of good info. I just received a new Antarcti 1,2L, I already have the 10 and 14 Zebra billy pots, I was looking for a in-between. I must admit, it is hard to choose between those two products, they are both very good and well made. The Fire Maple have a better design, the Zebra have a stronger construction (a bit thicker) but an less easy handle managment. One very good thing less mentionned, a bonus for me (!), the Fire Maple fit exactly, very tight, into the Bushbox XL, the trivets placed in the upper slots, the upper part of the sides of the stove offer a sturdy support, preventing accidental and dangerous sliding. It can be useful for those having already that stove. BTW.: What do you do with all the snow received recently? You can send us a bit, in southern Québec the winter is dying 🥲... we are still in February 😭. I like the seasons at the right place.
I’m interested in the giveaway. :) It looks like a decent system. As you mentioned on camera, the cost of these is going sky high in comparison to the Camelwill pot you reviewed a few years ago. I’ve since bought two of those. My favourite is a full stainless steel cup/lid and bottom pot that fits a Nalgene bottle as my svea123r drops into it perfectly. Have a Merry Christmas! Cheers from Charlottetown PEI
Iv personally have had really bad experiences with this exact pot. Iv had 2 of them and sent both back. The first one, the lid locking tabs, was broken in the mail. So I sent it back. I got a replacement. The second one I owned I used it for about a month and the same thing happend the lid tabs broke off. They seriously have to re design the locking tabs. I love everything else about the pot the locking tabs are a serious week point
Hello Mark and Merry Christmas from your southern neighbors in ew Hampshire. I love your reviews. I own the Zebra and have enjoyed it for many years but these Fire Maple people really know how to improve on a good product to make it great. Please count me in for their giveaway. Mike K. From N.H. USA
Thanks for the review. I was just looking at replacing my 12cm zebra and saw this video. Just bought one off the fire maple site. I hope it all goes well shipping it to Australia.
I have the 14 cm Zebra (thanks to one of your previous reviews Mark!) but would love to have a Fire Maple. Please consider me for the draw, thanks. Brian
Beautiful pots! Just as soon as I find a safe place to buy? Just love them! Been looking at all the company's! They even have a poor over for coffee ☕ nice little lamps,,, perfect ❤️😉
@Mark Young -I’d like to be added to your list of interested people in the fire maple bush pot please! Thanks and best of luck with the storm coming this weekend! We’re going to get a lot of rain and wind in Nova Scotia! Hopefully we don’t lose power again!
I have always wanted a zebra pot but have never afforded myself one. But the fire maple pot looks much improved over the zebra pot! Count me in please! Name is John. Merry Christmas and happy new year to everyone 🎉
Great review. Like you, the idea of having to modify a newly purchased item is counter productive especially if there's a better version from a different manufacturer. Please add me to your drawing for the Fire Maple billy pot.
Interesting idea. I would think it would work for steaming something. Maybe a small 4" pie foil pie plate. I will give this a try. Thanks for commenting
Had a question, the bushpot i have has sharp edges where the hanging handle connects to the pot, did you find those do too? How do you pack them without worry for them damaging your backpack? Do you have any suggestions? Doubt i can find a bag strong enough to contain it, i would have to sand the handle edges and the pot attachments and not sure if that's reasonable to even try. Thanks for your time, and please enter me in the draw.
Great review Mark. I got one just after your initial video. I plan to use it a lot next camping season. And fot those interested i can confirm that in Poland you can get them at Decathlon
Well this video makes me happy as i have one of those pots on the way as I type. I researched a few other ones and I thought as you did the many features that I look for in a pot this one had. No modification to it at all. I'm glad to see you also came to the same conclusion that this is a perfect Bushpot. Firemaple did their homework in coming up with this one. Thank you sir for a great video and I subscribed to your channel as I believe you are a great person of knowledge and I hope in the future after watching your videos I will learn along the way. Brightest Blessings to you and as always may you never run out of places to explore.
I love my bush pot the only problem iv had with it is one of the lid clips broke off it in my opinion that's the only week point on the whole thing. I did get a replacement sent to me tho
Unfortunately, no. The FM pan will drop completely to the bottom of the Zebra. The Zebra pan will not even fit in the top of the FM. However, the lids are exchangeable. Thanks for commenting
Designers need to take into consideration the usable practical volume of their advertised pot capacity. That's what I like the firemaple which gives you more volume because when cooking there's boilover, spillage when inserting a spoon to stir contents, evaporation loss of liquid etc. You're reviews are well done.
I don't know if this works over a fire , but , on My flat top electric stove , when boiling water , I lay a wooden spoon across the pot ... it doesn't boil over .
The handle on the Fire Maple is a very useful feature. My Zebra pot needs a notched stick to safely pour boiling water. The drilled steamer tray is brilliant as well.
UPDATE on AVAILABILITY. I just hear back from Fire Maple. They have been hit hard with the recent upswing in COVID cases. The bush pot should be available again in 20 days
It really does look perfect. My current bushpot has no pour spout and also the bail falls down. I use my little dish to finish cooking eggs so the holes wouldn't help with that 😆 I wonder if the ohuhu stove would nest inside the fire maple. I'm going to look at them
@@MarkYoungBushcraft you are right! The diameter on the amazon page says 14.5cm but that is for the outside of the bail. Maybe not quite perfect for me then. Thank you!
I always appreciate it when someone puts the effort into making their product as good as it can get. Most of my pots are thrift store conversions. Please include me in the draw.
Great review as usual, Mark! When I first saw the Fire Maple pot I thought it had all of the best features of the Zebra Billy and the Self Reliance Outfitters Pots. Happy holidays and I look forward to your next video.
Great comparison of all three. I have a couple of the Billy Pots but the Fire Maple has improvements that make it a nice all around handy pot to add to my collection!!
Count me in too! I actually have 2 Camel will 1.2 little pots (1 for fire, 1 for alcohol/gas) but I have been considering for a long time getting something I can bake in like the Billy Pot from Firebox Stoves. This would be a wonderful solution! Another great video to how best the three Firemaple is! Don't even see it here at Amazon in USA. THANKS MARK
This looks like a very well designed bush pot. Thanks for the review and comparing it to the competition. I only whish they had a 14cm diameter version for my Solo Stove Titan... Since I live in Europe I don't qualify for the giveaway, no problem!
I'm interested in the Fire 🔥 Maple 🍁 1.2L Bushpot. Great review, as per usual. Merry Christmas to you and yours. And thanks again for ur help with measuring the inside diameter of the Goshawk titanium multi-fuel wood gasifier stove, Eddy-200 Pioneer (boy that's a mouthful to remember, eh?) 👍😝🤙☃️🎄🎅🎁
My perfect pot (I have many, almost all titanium) is the Evernew 1.3 liter pot, because it is almost as light as my Snow Peak 700 ml cup. Both were made in Japan, which I like (China is not our friend), and Evernew uses a thinner gauge of titanium than anyone else, making them ultralight. It has a simple lid, not a frying pan, though the pot itself is wide enough to fry eggs or brown meat in. The bottom is flat. Pots with raised bottoms are no good for frying because the oil collects around the edges of the pot. I have done most of the Appalachian Trail with this pot and one of my Snow Peak titanium solo pots as a cup. I have a few "bushcrafty" pots, which are great for stationary camping, but I go as light as I can when hiking, with the exception of winter hiking, when I will take my Kelly Kettle aluminum Scout water boiler/stove. You have an amazing collection of pots, pans, cups, grilles and stoves. Do you have any ultralight folding titanium utensils? I'm looking for an ultralight spatula for my Evernew pot. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🙏✌👍
Amazing pot from FM, by far my preferred pot! They just missed some graduation inside the pot to be able to measure volume, if it has this it would be THE pot in my opinion!!!
