Greg demonstrates how to start a fire with a pair of pants in a survival situation!
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

This is handy to know Greg. I've often cut the outer seam from the denim fabric, (using old worn out jeans of course), so I can prepare the fabric for denim rugs. I've braided many denim rugs over the years. I've always felt uncomfortable about 'wasting' the outer seam. I wish I'd known this fire starter jeans hack years ago. Have a great week, and stay safe.

This guy is full of just excellent knowledge for physical life! Also he’s packing legit wisdom sometimes too. Which is more precious than gold itself if we listen to it and then apply it to our own lives that is.

When tinder or dry grass around the fire catches alight, you can also use the knee of your jeans to put it out. It saves using your hands, or getting up and using your boots. It is surprising how often we just take jeans for granted LOL

Keep the fire going is great advice. I recall in the Mikmaw culture fire played a critical role and a fire started in the fall could be kept until the spring. When travelling embers from the fire could be kept alive for many days by using Horsehoof fungi or Chaga as a transport vessel. If you have ever dropped a little spark into a bit of Horsehoof you will be amazed at how long it will smoulder. If you do it you have to be careful because the ember can be very difficult to put out.
