Fire Truck Crashes At House Fire 

I bet somebodys day ended peeing in a cup for a mandatory DOT test!🤣🤣

I drove a ladder truck for 10 of 26 years on the job, saw this happen twice in my time. You have to swing those babies out to get in those narrow driveways. Looks like the Engine will survive. No sense in beating the driver up, I'm sure he/she is already sick about it. They will certainly go on to be a better operator because of this experience.

On this style of cab-over apparatus, the front axle is actually a little bit *behind* the driver. This means it is very easy to start the turn too soon-you need to learn to pull well into the intersection before you start your turn, and in this case, make the turn very sharply. Sounds like a new operator... they'll get it right from now on.

That's not a crash. That's what happens when turning in to a small gate. My propane delivery turn did this twice. I'll widen the gate now. Glad that house was close enough for the other trucks to take care of the fire.

Driver was identified as Firefighter "Rick Bobby" of Talladega, Regarding the incident Mr.Bobby was quoted "If ya ain't first your last".

Love the use of he rotator on the 60 ton wrecker. Pulled the engine right out of the ditch. The engine is repairable as the frame can be straightened. Seen much worse brought back into service. Engineer/driver didn't swing it either.

Diggin that squad! The truck can be fixed/replaced. That’s why you have insurance. As long as nobody gets hurt and you hold the motto “everyone goes home.” It’s a good tour! Knowing your first due is key. I can say stuff all day, but at the end of it, none of us were there. We don’t know why it happened, but it happened and everyone walked away.

That's the kinda mistake you don't let your engineer live down. lol. Glad it was a simple ditch-n-perch and nothing more serious.

I kept wondering why some many units when you don't see even a hint of smoke until 7:30 into it. Seems like they would have wanted to dump the water out of the tank before lifting to save torque on the frame. Also, them are some mighty clean turnouts those guys are wearing. They all look brand new.

I just found this video today. I didn't thoroughly read all of the comments about this incident, but I noticed something that really stood out as a major problem. In the first part of the video, I saw many of the fire apparatus responding with emergency lights but no siren. Most states require the use of both to lawfully be an emergency vehicle. How do you expect drivers to yield when you are not properly using all of your emergency equipment to warn them? As a police officer for over 30 years, I saw more than my share of crashes involving emergency vehicles where the emergency equipment wasn't properly used. This also creates a major liability problem for the department and the county if this causes a traffic crash since they would not be designated as an emergency vehicle. Most new fire apparatus have cameras onboard to record their negligent actions. It is not an excuse when there is light traffic in the area. Regardless of the traffic conditions, properly use your equipment!

After the tow truck came to get the fire engine unstuck, did it had to go to get it fixed?

I hope that nobody will give the driver any problems about this. It is very lucky that it didn't roll over. I am glad that nobody got hurt. That's not a good feeling.

Big Damn difference between a crash and running off in a ditch, this commonly happens in rural areas trying to fight structure fires.

How many units do they normally send out to a "small fire"? I realize that they don't really know how big it is until they arrive on scene, but that response looked like massive overkill. Round here in California you would likely have gotten one engine.

with all these trucks I was expecting a huge mansion not a small house.

Know that this may be a strange question, but instead of having to wait for the tow truck to arrive, since they had so may of them alread on scene, couldnt they have maybe used one of the fire trucks to see if that could have pullled it out of the ditch while the tow truck was still on its way????

I really wouldn't consider this a crash as its more of a mishap.

"Crash" is an overblown description. It fell in a ditch. Yes, once it went in, it leaned against the pillar, but it was not a crash.

WHERE IS THE FIRE

The biggest impression I got was .... NOT ONE PERSON PULLED OVER TO STOP.... MUST BE IN CALIFORNIA.

Now that's not a real crash...I saw a pumper unit crash into a Ford Explorer about 10 years ago. I was stuck in traffic, pulled over on the shoulder (accident ahead on a state highway), and someone two cars ahead decided to turn around (extreme impatience during the evening rush hour), right as a responding fire truck came through. They T-boned the Explorer and I got to see a fire apparatus briefly get all the wheels lifted up into the air and bounce back down (!). The lady driving the Explorer was extremely lucky to not have been injured or killed. I found out later that someone I knew from church was driving the apparatus, and the accident put the unit out of service for 3 months. And the Explorer driver lost her license, after being cited for failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle (apparently she already had a bunch of points against her license 🙄).

What's the big deal ?? Cut corner to short drop tire in the ditch. Happens more than you would know. TATER got it back on road!! Everyone safe

As a bus mechanic where the steer axle is behind cab, should’ve drove a tad bit further out, but then again it looks like the driver was also trying to prevent the possibility of driving over the poorly placed hose that should’ve been closer to the right of the entrance unless it was placed after

My Dad was a fire Chief in Warren Pennsylva, but the first couple years drove the firetruck, around Christmas he got a seven man tubgon? anyway he crashed into a tree, broke his leg pretty good, we we were allowed to hang around the fire station,He got alot of ribbing 😀
