One nice touch in Cod4 was that if you took the MP5 and M9 in your loadout, they actually shared ammo. Now you have Warzone where all assault rifles share the same ammo.
I worked on this one, I was one of the vehicle artists, we made all the art from scratch, weapons and vehicles were given extra love, we just used the original models as a general reference but nothing more. Glad Jonathan likes it! I visited the Royal Armouries museum in Leeds some years ago, really cool place!
You guys did an amazing job man. I’m a huge gun enthusiast/nerd and combat vet of the 82nd 1st/504th and given the source material you guys truly did a phenomenal job.
interesting, so you only referenced the models? i wouldve figured you ported models and updated them. did any sort of porting from cod4 happen? maps/missions etc?
I was hoping he'd have an opinion on the incredibly confusing decision of the developers adding both the M40 and the Remington Model 700 into the game.
@@seanherrmann6301 lol they are the exact same gun my dude, is his point. inside and out. Variety would be adding a Savage, or an Accuracy International, something actually different
@@seanherrmann6301 Yes but at least those two weapons have different firing modes and purposes. Most games have both the CQB versions of the main rifle being portrayed (AK74/74U, M4/M16 etc.) M40 is essentially just the military designation for the R700 if I'm not mistaken. Literally no other difference.
Please do MachineGames Wolfenstein games! How they've depicted evolved WWII germans guns would probably be either really cool or totally painful for Jonathan
As soon as the Barrett part started i was hoping Dave would have a rapid hipfire clip and thank you so much! Genuinely used to use a class set up with slight of hand and steady aim to do that on purpose.
It's kinda funny - the MP5 in Modern Warfare does have the slap animation, but it's only when it's first drawn from your secondary weapon slot or picked up, as a 'prepping' animation.
In MW2019? Yes, that's true. But your also do the slap when the magazine is completely depleted of ammo. I think it's because if you do the animation when the mag is not empty, then you're wasting a round.
even though I don't see it modeled in this game, but when I had my G36 issued in Lithuanian armed forces ours had paddle release extension that runs in parallel to the trigger guard similar to HK pistols and is there for you to use the trigger finger to drop the magazine. And yes .50 BMG can remove limbs. Especially if you hit them in the joint. temporary cavitation does the rest.
Yeah I remember watching the Browning work is magic on some hajj in Iraq... body parts like confetti after the smoke settled. Very gnarly. Something you don't quickly forget.
Yeah, I saw a documentary about the war against Al-Qaeda that one of the snipers used a Barett m82 and shown that even if shot through a concrete wall, it can explode the head of the target
Some games that would be good: Killing floor 2: It uses a lot of caseless medic weapons, homemade berserker weapons, and other weird/unique firearms that should be fun for him to analyze. Depth: The use of underwater weaponry would be interesting to hear him talk about. XCOM2: I know this is an odd one, but their cartoonish look that's still based on real weapons would be fun to hear about. His comments on the rail guns and alien weapons might be interesting too.
I got to meet Jerry Miculek at shot show once, but my grandad had the honor of being on a first name basis with him. He used to do custom work to Jerry's revolvers back when he still lived around our area and bowling pin shooting was the big trend
Another great video from Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history.
what i love about advanced warfare, bo3, infinite warfare and bo4 is that all the guns are based off real guns, like the Kuda is clearly based off the MP5, and the ICR7 is based off the M4, and Kn57 is based off the Ak12
Thanks for telling me about the hk slap song. Guess that'll be going into my random music playlist. Really makes me want a mp5 specifically so i can do the hk slap honestly. Its my favorite smg for every reason dealing with games style and history.
@@TheSundayShooter not mine. My turn signals are all older than me and as brittle as a rotten piece of wood. The closest thing i have to an hk slap is the cylinder flick on revolvers.
I’m fairly certain the original M16 in cod4 was burst. I remember not using it as much because at the time I didn’t know how to aim so full auto was easier lol.
Would be really cool if Jonathan made a video on *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* weapons. So many weapons in that game to comment on like the patriot, the EZ gun, Snake's M1911, Ocelot's SAA and Eva's chinese mauser clone. Want to know your take on the Boss disassembling Snake's 1911 without removing the slide stop and many many more...
I've loved watching this series to get facts and ideas about firearms. I'm also using this as research for a project of mine, which is quite gun focused.
1:58 two weeks later a patch note is released. -visual bug fixed the P90 magazine bullet are now correctly unfired rounds). yes there was a game that had a simular patch note text. but I think it was more like - text on the Glock pistol is now of the correct model from before.

The AR platform literally has some of the best ergonomics, controls, and handling for one of the many weapons of the real world. So much so that newer gun designs mimic these features today. Sig MCX, MCX spear, PSA's new 5.56 AK, the FN SCAR, etc.
it would be nice for Johathan to look at the larger guns in the Double Fine game Iron Brigade, give him a chance to use the Artillery part of his job title.
What a series you guys have, I could listen to him go on about guns in his fancy accent until you cover every shooter ever made haha. Thanks for making all these episodes
13:37 The most satisfying action. That's one of the reasons why the MP5 is one of my favorites in terms of reload route. Its just something so satisfying in slapping
To answer why the Winchester, it was used in military service by the US from 92 until 2006. Though even during those times Mossberg 590A1's and Remington 870 MCS shotguns were more common. I recall reading it was used by the SAS as well for a brief time but can't seem to source that information. For the M16A4, in multiplayer it is the correct 3 round burst, Campaign mode had a few odd changes compared to MP. Such as the G3A4 being full auto in Campaign but multiplayer it was semi automatic only which would be more true to form and usage.
I still would love to see Johnathan react to Resident Evil 2 and 3 guns of what he thinks of them since both games got an update on graphics for the new consoles~
6:55 on Google Earth I measured the distance from that hotel to roughly where he is standing from what I remember it's somewhere in the ballpark of 3.4 kilometers
12:55 "I have too point out that there is a music video of the "HK Slap" Jonathan it warms my heart to know you have also seen that beautiful video by Print Shoot Repeat.
Tbh dude, the Royal armouries already has a ton of videos on napoleonic era weapons on their channel, and there's only so much you can say about different muskets.
@@viziontrex true, but there are lots of differences between versions of Mp5s in video games, whereas black powder warfare weapons dont feature much in gaming, and the differences between the different muskets/rifles built at the time are so relatively minute that I doubt you'd be able to get a full video out of them. Don't get me wrong., I love me a musket, but theres only so much you can say about them within the context of holdfast. there just isn't enough there to make a longish video. people are better off looking at the deep-dives into them on to RA channel itself to be honest.
Loved this video, the level of detail on these guns and Jonathan's passion for them was awesome. Would love to see more of the Destiny 2 weapons though, but specifically the kinetic slot ones. Those tend to be a lot more realistic than their energy counterparts.
I have been loving all of GameSpots weapon analysis/react videos by experts in the field. The next thing I would really love to see is an expert reacting to combat vehicles in games like Squad, Arma and WoT, IMO that would make for an awesome series! Keep up the good work and send kisses to Jonathan :)
Jonathan forgot to mention that in that first clip of the Barret the player shooting the helicopter pilot through the cockpit is possible with the .50 caliber round of the barret. Like with Cars, that .50 BMG round has so much power and energy behind it that it can punch through degradable covers, walls, and helicopters. As it was demonstrated to be capable of if the soldier using it is in that scenario. But yeah that second clip of it, big eyebrow raise. That guy in reality would be on the ground incapacitated from a .50 BMG in the back if not fatally wounded if it hits the spine and the huge temporary cavity that round would inflict on the body, even with body armor.
Great vid as always. It would be cool to see one on the Killzone series or one of its installments as, especially starting with Killzone 2, the guns had a great feel and were clearly, for the most part at least, based on real-world firearms.
Request for Johnathan to react to the guns and weapons of Killing Floor 2. Would love to see him react to the reloads of that game (with and without perks), their models, and as well as some of the more unique weapons such as the sledgehammer that uses shotgun shells and the HRG series of weapons.
06:55 agreed, that is not 800 meters for sure. I'd say even with the biggest zoom scopes, at 800 meters a human would be roughly 1/4 the size of what they look like in the game. Also quick mention, that smoke trail from the round, highly inconvenient to say the least lol.
I’d like to see a video about assassins creed, mainly the flintlock rifles and pistols from assassins creeds 3,4,rogue, and unity, as well as the semi auto pistols and revolvers we use in assassins creed syndicate.
“I didn’t come all zis vay for you to be gentle viss me alright, I need you to slap me hard, alright, I need to go into battery” Much love for the PSR reference!
I'd love Jonathan to see Cruelty Squad weapons. Game's graphics are ... unorthodox, but many guns are based on some interesting and obscure real experimental guns
Probably my favourite series on this channel, this might get some hate but Jonathan should review some of Call of Duty Mobile’s guns (specifically the Mythic weapons)
I would really like Johnathan to have a look on Star Citizen weapons. Star Citizen is in early Alpha phase - granted (and will remain there for quite some time). But so far they have hefty collection of weapons. In my opinion they are poorly designed for something that you will handle in year 2900+ but it would be interesting to hear an expert. Keep up the good work guys! This is probably one of my favourite series on RU-vid.
Star Citizen from top to bottom runs on Rule of Cool - to be fair the devs kind of acknowledge it, but it's in a funny position where _at a glance_ it looks 'more realistic' than other scifi games, but actually almost nothing in the game makes sense if you think about it for too long.
At 500yrds (maybe 700) those soldiers would be about the size of that yellow label on that bottle on the table at best with a 10x scope if memory serves.
I was always told not to slap the mp5 charging handle because the recess in which it sits is made of relatively thin metal and will damage it over time.
I know I'm gonna get roasted for this but I do sincerely hope Jonathan reacts to Free Fire's guns because it's firearm mechanics are just built different. As a firearms expert, his reaction would probably be all over the place
Not only is there a song about The Slap, it also features 3D printer guns that work quite well.. most of the time. 3D printed guns are being used in the Myanmar/ Burma Junta, thought not sure if they use the one(s) in the video. All the pics I've seen have been of JStarks FGC-9.
I shoot fairly often at around 300 and up to 1000 whenever I can get a slot on the calendar. That M82 scene in MW looks like hes about 50-75 yards away
For the 50 cal section: There are plates that can stop .50 cal fire. They were made for helicopter pilots and because of their size and bulk are very infrequently seen. So a person running on the ground taking a .50 to the plates is going to take a bullet through the torso. A human torso can be approximated very roughly as 18 inches wide and 36 inches tall give or take. That's .6 mils wide by 1.3 mils tall. My Leupold Mk 5 HD maxes out at 18x magnification and at that magnification there is the barest hint of the tenth mil row, so the field of view is about 20 mils in diameter. Zakhaev is way too tall in that scope image, he should be 6.5% the height of the overall scope view, though the scope may just have a very narrow field of view. Fun thing, I have to zoom out a decent bit to engage targets past 1000 yards with that scope with 5.56 if I'm not able to take the time to dial drop. On an old mil dot reticle that'd be his torso a bit taller than the gap between the crosshair and the first marking, so he shouldn't be taller than the crosshair to the third hash mark below it.
the M16 in Mw1 is the same Gun but updated but the Single Player version of the M16 is Actually Based off the M16A3 with the KAC Rails system but in the MP version of the Game it uses the Burst Fire version of the M16A4
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about the FAMAS. For whatever reason, the model they used for the FAMAS had a gas piston above the barrel, despite the FAMAS not being gas operated.
Looks like 200-300m in the M82 section 6:55, as the heli gives you good parallax shift and hovers low into line of sight. If 800m you'd have be on a mountain, not a hill as depicted, and the sound of the heli explosion reaching you as if it blew up within 150m or so further supports that 800m is an exaggeration.
Jonathan, apologies for being nitpicky; the MP-5 trigger group in the game, and your hands, IS the Navy trigger group. There are trigger groups with 2 and 3 round burst of course, but the Navy is always ambi safe/semi/full with the pictograms.
Comments re- long range are spot on. 2007 era m40 are Unertl 10x. Not represented in teh game but the A3 did use an internal magazine. The Current version is the M40A6, which originally used the A5s PM2 3-12x50, but you would often see the PM2s switched out for the ATACR 5-25s from the MK13 Mod 7s. Mod 7s were seen as a prepared capability, where as the A6s were seen as a rapid deployment capability. The TeMR3 Reticle on the ATACR is preferred to the gen 2 mil dot on the 3-12 so even though the M40A6 only had a 20" barrel, the ATACR provided a lot more visibility, capability and target confirmation vs the 3-12s
