Jonathan had a lot to say about the weapons of Fallout London, so there will be a part 2 for next Saturday. And be sure to leave your questions below for future Q&A sessions!
Question for the team: Are gas sealed revolvers a good idea? - Thinking a lil about the Silenced Nagant, if it was so good, why weren't more revolvers silenced? Guessing it was an engineering issue for the time and how pistols quickly evolved to become semi automatic firearms with mags and clips. Currently, with US concealed carry rules would there be any virtue in having a gas sealed 32acp thinigie in your pocket, or would you just shoot yourself in the gentlemanly parts coz the safeties aren't up to much?
@@watcherofclassics Tbh it looks exactly like as if factory just grabbed museum collection and decide to copy any design that works. I mean, they couldn't afford a full blown design bureau with only survivors at first.
@@lankyGigantic Considering the individuals that made it across the USA after the bombs dropped, I could see a group of motivated merchants/mercs running a mission and caravan to grab the guns and transport them back to the factory. It's less than 131 miles - Massachusetts is 190 miles from E to W, for comparison.
Funny enough the idea of having radiation on a firearm fits Fallout like a glove. Reminds me when I was in reserved military we had radiated beacons which were probably working in their box for the past 30 something years... So yeah radiated items to illuminate things still are used to this day.
The Fallout London devs should add a rare weapon vender based on (and voiced by) Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armories museum in the UK.
But he and Irregular Dave, his Supermutant Assistant, engage in a violent and sustained attack if any of your weapons have been festooned with nonsense. 😂
@MaxwellAerialPhotography thinking about it, that'd actually be a pretty cool quest if you could rebuild a firearms museum in the process of recovering rare and interesting weapons.
I felt that the reason they named the rifle just a "service rifle" was a nod to New Vegas where the standard service rifle was also just called "service rifle". Especially since they took clear inspiration from other parts of New Vegas, like adding back in the ammo loading workbench.
And we have to take account the years between the war and when the game takes place. Post-apocalyptic survivor doesn't care what model it is, "it was a service rifle" is the most that he will know of it and it's good enough. There is no comparing between models III and model IV on the campfire, nobody cares. It's a rifle.
There should be a legendary version of the service rifle called "more tape" or "taped" that is just completely wrapped in tape like if it was a christmas present to the point where you cant see any of the wood
Honestly, I would love to see a Ghoulified Companion With the title of "Johnathan Ferguson Keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history"
@@jeroylenkins1745 you could add him in at the Tower of London in the Royal Armouries in tears over the state of the reference collection and defending it with his emotional support MP5
@bosknight7837 sounds like an awesome idea actually make him in the way I mentioned in my comment to @jeroylenkins1745 and make the story that he is begrudgingly selling pieces out of the reference collection to pay for supplies/meds and each time you but something sniffles back some tears and he sells a special version of each weapon called an emotional support (X) which is a weapon still in perfect condition with stat bonuses in all stats.
Handling a radioactive Welrod sight might be the most fitting way to do a Fallout gun comparison video. ^^ ("The Welrod's clandestine use meant that use at night was extremely likely and as such had its front and rear sights painted with luminous radioactive paint which enabled the pistol to be aimed in low light." -historicalfirearms)
Ah, radium. That stuff has a very fascinating and tragic history. My grandma had watches and alarm clocks painted with the stuff so it could be seen in the dark.
He has the Keeper of Firearms and Artillery in the Royal Armorys Museum in the UK which holds thousands of iconic weapons from thought history resistance perk
Well if there's going to be Q&A's. We all know that Jonathan has his trusty emotional support MP5. Are there any firearms that come close in giving him the comfort he needs whenever Dave shows him another cursed weapon?
>Does a Fallout weapons video >Handles actual radioactive gun 10/10 commitment. Also, possible Q&A question: What's the most obscure firearm in the collection that Jonathan would like to see represented in a game?
Oh, this is an exciting one. I cannot wait to hear Jonathan’s thoughts on the very British guns here. Also, please can we get a Valkyria Chronicles episode in the future? Please?
Between the Royal Armouries channel, Forgotten Weapons and now here, I don't think I've ever seen this many Welrods in such a short span of time, which is an awesome thing to get to say.
The only game that I've ever seen a Welrod was in Medal of Honor: Rising Sun where you sneak into Singapore pretending to be a German diplomat officer with a welrod being your only weapon. This thing felt amazing to use and it's one of the most under-appreciated guns.
I would love to see the part 2 where Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armories museum in the UK, reviews rest of the guns of Fallout: London.
Just wanted to say, as someone who owns a No.5 Mk1, they were made by multiple factories in WW2 so not all had metal end caps on the stock, mine does not and it started life as a No.5
Question for Jonathan Ferguson the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armories Museum in the UK which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history... What's the best game he ever played that did not contain any weapons or firearms in them...? If he could not think of one, what is the best game for him that does have one...?
For me it would be something akin to a weapon of mass destruction, like the lazy gun from against a dark back ground, or killys gun from blame, both small pistols that could destroy entire planets with one shot
6:15 it is indeed the same mod; asXas is the creator and a few of his gun mods for FO4 were contributed into FO London, though some under different names. I've spotted the Crude Blowback, the Welrod, the Rifle No.4, and the EM-2.
It's always a good sign, when in the, cold open (?), we see Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armories museum in the UK, seem genuinely happy/amused by what he sees. Funny thing, came straight from a video of Ian shooting one of those Welrods, in fact, there was another Welrod vid by him recommended. It's all Welrods today.
O goodie: another Jonathon Ferguson, keeper of Firearms and Artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history reacts to game guns!!
It’s been years, and this is still my favourite weekly video series. All because of the man; the myth, the legend - Jonathon Ferguson; the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK.
It's the radium used for the sights. Pretty common back then, as well as on watch hands. If you want to be horrified, read about the Radium Girls, poor watch factory workers who contracted radiation sickness from painting watch hands and duals with radium without any protection.
I feel like it should be mentioned, for those of us not familiar with London, that FO4:London starts after the prologue in Greenwich in the vicinity of the Royal Observatory, south of the Thames. The Royal Small Arms Factory (Now found as the RSA Interpretation Centre apparently) is quite far north of that about 20 miles (30km) away.
Just watched the Forgotten Weapons vid actually! Which is how I immediately noticed the Welrod's bolt rotates the wrong way, lol. That said, the dedication the modders poured into gun realism really pays off if we're nitpicking about how far a bolt sticks out, let's face it. Stellar work.
3:08 Hi Jonathan & Dave, love your videos. Just FYI, the 3 Chinese characters actually says "China Made" (from left to right each character literally translated to "Middle/Central" "Kingdom" "Made").
Please Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, deconstruct & analyze the weapons of *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* before the remake comes out. So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like;- - The Patriot's infinite ammo and drum magazine resembling an (∞) symbol as well as the tumbling bullets. - The EZ tranq gun based off a Liberator pistol. - Snake's customized officer M1911A1 and him whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC. - Ocelot's dual Single Action Army and his revolver juggling skills. - The End's custom paratrooper Mosin Nagant with tranquilizer rounds. - The Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher. - Eva's chinese Type 17 mauser clone with her "bandit shooting" technique. - Tatyana's single shot lipstick pistol. - Volgin using his electricity to ignite and fire off 7.62mm bullets from his hands. - The Boss's quick ability to disarm and disassemble Snake's pistols. These are a few examples and there are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please Dave and Jonathan, please consider making a video for MGS3.
It's nice while relaxing to watch Johnathan Ferguson the keeper of Firearms and Artillery at the Royal Armories Museum in the Uk, after a hard days work.
I've been waiting for this one, thank you Dave and Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Fireams & Artillery at the Royal Armories museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history.
I do enjoy videos of Johnathan talking about weapons in video games, I was hoping there would be ones for Fallout London, and I'm not disappointed well done to the fallout London team.
Amazing. I am so happy you made a video for this mod. I was really hoping you would. And I cannot wait for the second part. The Beefeaters await you in the Tower of London.
@@Edax_Royeaux Why? By 2077 we would have spent the past 120 years advancing at a snail's pace, then the war happened and for the next centuries that dropped to no pace at all leaving the world looking like time stopped in 1955. North America can be "stuck" in the 1950's but Europe can't?
@@krashd As Jonathan Ferguson mentions in previous Fallout 4 videos, any WWII weapon would have it's metal irreparably rusted away and wood rotted away if left exposed or used over those centuries.
I'd say Scaramanga is more of a nod to Christopher Lee actually using one during his time with the UK's secret assassination service than any film role.
I'm glad there will be a Part 2, because they even have the "Trounds RIfle" (also exists as Handgun irl but in Fallout London it comes with the Rifle Conversion) and i'm sure all of you Forgotten Weapons Fans know exactly what Gun that is Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
This bring up an excellent bit of story telling. In the event of a world ending transaction the museum would be raided for any weapons that still worked thus introducing firearms back into London
What I love about this, is that it is a mod. So there is a decent chance that they will take these things into account and change them for upcoming patches.
I was really hoping you would do a video on this mod's guns because it seems like a lot of love was put in recreating historical guns while keeping it very fallout themed
Ah yesss! I was hoping you would do a video on this. If you're going to do a second video, you may want to take a look at the suppressor for the Service Rifle. It's... interesting.
The Welrod is one of my favorite historical weapons. It's the definition of a specialty tool. It has one purpose, and it does it extremely well. I'm also 100% certain it inspired Hideo Kojima to make the frame locked single shot version of the M9 as a tranquilizer pistol in MGS2, and after that the Mk22 Hush Puppy in MGS3.
yayyyy one more part :D, I visited the royal armories several months ago because of these videos got me super interested in firearms, I even got my picture taken with the 1916 federov russian (assualt?) rifle
I really hope to see Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries in the UK, I would love to see him break down and analyze the guns of Generation Zero, it has some great guns and I like the way they look, and function. Also the resistance trilogy
Cutlery Expert Reacts “Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of knives and forks at the Royal Cutlery museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of cutlery from throughout history”
Thanks for the shout-out to the Yorkshire Museum. I grew up in York and spent much of my free time at the Museum, and I've always found it seriously underrated. It was where I took my first girlfriend on our first date.
The Lee Enfield mod for Fallout 4 is just beautiful seriously and it also doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s my go to weapon for Fallout 4 when I’m using the Veteran ranger gear
awesome as always, can't wait to watch this ep but I gotta watch it tomorrow. Hopping in early tho to say you really gotta show Johnathan the firearms of the Killzone series of games! Absolutely amazing weapons and tech design and I think he'd have a field day with it!
I knew there was an EM-2 in there so the moment I realised it wasn't in this episode, I knew there had to be a follow up episode at some point. Looking forward to it. As for the Q&A, can I ask a question not directly related to videogames? There's a question I've been dying to know the answer to and Johnathan seems like the definitive person to answer it.
My favourite rifle I found is the Queens Gambit, a gold plated Martini Henri (vintage rifle in the game) which shoots .50 cal and just obliterates opponents. It's given after helping out a familiar face from Fallout 3...
11:32 I think it's mostly to keep in line with other fallout games where they just name them in a generic fashion, ontop of the fact that they often wouldn't even be named the same due to that design philosophy of "no real guns" in the fallout setting. In the sense that no guns are meant to be the real version, even the original games did it with the FN P90 being produced by H&K, so in game it's called the H&K P90
Jonathan S. Ferguson, you are such a gem of a human being! A long time ago, you, Dave, the expert team, and the folks from GameSpot started this series, and oh lord, what an enrichment it has been for me and everyone else who watches and enjoys this amazing project. I want to express my appreciation and thank you for this wonderful opportunity to learn more about the mechanics and history behind these fascinating tools. Thanks for all the well-founded information, humor, and satisfaction. You did great! See you in the next episode ❤️
Inordinately niche possibility, would love to see a Reacts to Angels Fall First. Its a game that deserves much more press, but it also has some genuinely interesting weaponry on the conventional side of things (Taldis SAR etc.)
Yesterday while in the shower I was watching the battlefield 1 reaction series, and thought it would be great to have Jonathan reacting to fallout London's arsenal... 12 hours later, here it is. ❤
