start crowdfunding, hire developers and please make this game more complete. more units, automatic air suppression, and backfiring. you're work is super inspiring and can educate a whole generation about fire suppression, something needed considering the fire service is becoming more green than ever. I hope you haven't abandoned this project forever because it has the potential to become a widely known simulation game that can be enjoyed for years.

Thanks for the suggestions. You are right, I should setup a Patreon or something. Good news is that I am still planning to work more on this. It's going to change a lot, I have new ideas. I'm just concentrating on funding in the form of grants and VC. So crowd funding is a great idea which I'll be looking into soon.

Props brother! I'll admit I was concerned that your project would stall but it's exciting to see your progress! I used to sit in my station wondering if anyone would make a decent wildland sim, thank you!

Thanks Nicholas! The project had stalled from time to time over the last 3 years, sometimes for a few months. However, coding FireJumpers has been one of my passions, something I really enjoy doing! So I'll always come back and do more coding, and make it a little better each time! Launching on Steam is definitely going to be a milestone for me!

My goodness,just got the game and it’s AMAZING!I don’t even have the DLC! I first got the Sandbox in 2015-2016 and reinstalled near 2020.Congrats!I hope this becomes so popular!Much love from Oklahoma!

Thanks Titanic Mapping! I'm really happy with Inferno so far. There's still so much I want to improve on but I wanted to launch something. It's been 3 years in the making and I felt it was good enough to launch. More updates to come.

Awesome! Can't wait! The map you chose is also, funnily enough, one of my favorite spots for a fire. Whiskeytown Reservoir near Redding.

Yeah, I do a lot of testing in that area too, it's got a lot of different fuel loads and some hills and flat areas. A little bit of everything.

Very well done! I've been following your various FireJumpers projects for the last couple of years and I'm very impressed with how well this installment has turned out even this early on in its release. The ability to set up the automated routines is a total game changer because it was impossible to keep up with a large fire when we had to control each individual unit before. I'm sure you have plans to add and change different features and aspects of the program in the coming future but if you don't mind a little feedback here are a couple things I think would be helpful for the gameplay(not content additions). • One thing that would be a big help is to add a little tooltip window that pops up when you hover over the different tools/buttons and the units like when choosing a unit to spawn. In this tooltip window of course just include a short description of what the button in question does. And for the units maybe just include the basic stats such as speed, firefighting range(for engines), etc. along with a short description also of the purpose/function of the unit(for people brand new to firejumpers). •The only big addition/change I would love to see is if you were to expand a little bit on the automated routines... For example I would love if you could link or bridge one routine with another via a "bridge" waypoint. I'm suggesting this because it gets tedious having to select each tanker and manually switch their routines especially when there's multiple tankers in the sky. In theory it would work a lot like the GO trigger where it acts as a normal waypoint until activated then once the unit gets to it while active, their routine would then jump to the routine set by the Bridge waypoint. Maybe even have the option to have it switch to active automatically after a set amount of time has passed or even after a set number of times a unit passes it. •The more difficult suggestion is an entirely new feature which I understand would be a bit more difficult and time consuming to build. However if you're interested I'd love to see the ability to queue up actions/commands for both individual units and groups. This would really help in scenarios where you're handling lots of units, for example, when trying to contain a large fire or especially when dealing with multiple different fires at a time. I was thinking of something as simple as using shift + click/ctrl + click to issue several commands that would then be carried out in order by the selected unit/units. These additions/changes are geared towards furthering ability to issue orders in a more fluid and efficient manner. Making ground units capable of being handled more like your tankers, carrying out a string of commands that the unit/units will carry out automatically making it possible for you to move on to a different unit/task. And not to mention the time saved each scenario that would otherwise be lost when units are sitting idle waiting for their next command ;-)

This looks phenomenal! The amount of detail and control looks amazing. This could very well be used as a training tool. Without playing it yet, can the IC hosting the game limit controls and available tools of the other players? That would allow for control of things like controlled burn operations without trolls ruining it. For individual training scenarios, that could also force scenarios to focus in on some desired methods, strategies, and operations when using this as a training tool. Great work here! I'm excited to try it!
@JasonThomasRedhawk
@JasonThomasRedhawk Год назад
Yes, the IC hosting the game has control over all features, fire locations, wind speed/direction, game speed, etc. I have launched the simulator as the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) though I have a huge roadmap of additional features I'll be adding in, especially for wildland fire agencies. The main idea for launching Inferno on Steam is a grassroots approach, to get the wildland firefighters interested, and they'll let their bosses, and hopefully, the message goes up the chain of command. We should connect via Discord (see description for link) and I can give you a guided tour and discuss the kinds of features that would work for you.

Been into wildland firefighting most of my life and really love simulator games and this is going to be awesome! Looks so real! Can't wait! If there by chance are any more review videos, can you show a spot in the mountains of Montana? Really want to see how that came out? For a quick preference?

@ElTorlico
@ElTorlico Год назад
Hi! Could you add some units that use back fire? That would be an awesome tool to train this proccedure virtually.
@JasonThomasRedhawk
@JasonThomasRedhawk Год назад
I have been thinking about how to implement that for some time now. Two things are, there are scientific equations for a proper back fire, when the wind changes directions and start to blow towards the main fire. That's a little tricky to calculate. Second and also very important is not letting other players start fires. This will invite "Trolls" to ruin the game if they have the power to start fires. It can be done, and it will, but it won't make the cut for the Steam Launch version. It'll be something I can add later.

What’s the approx date of release from your perspective if everything goes to plan?
@JasonThomasRedhawk
@JasonThomasRedhawk Год назад
Once I submit my game to Steam to review, it may take up to 30 days before I'm allowed to launch it. So at this point, it looks like early October? Maybe. Plus, I also want to do some advertising for at least a month before launch too.

Question. Can the fire expand by itself without having to click on it to grow? Thanks, can't wait to buy it.
@JasonThomasRedhawk
@JasonThomasRedhawk Год назад
Yes, the fire will continue to spread as time goes by. In the video, I fast forwarded time by 1 hour for quicker fire expansion. The rate of spread is different for each fuel type.

This game looks amazing. Really is a professional tool disguised as a game. Just told all my friends about it and we're all very excited to play it. Just super scientific and detailed. Everything you'd ever want in a firefighting game. Any thoughts on when the release will be?

Thanks Donovan for sharing your enthusiasm with your friends! Best kinda advertising! I'm still fixing a handful of bugs but I'm aiming for launching in October at some point. I still want to advertise a little before launch, get a little buzz going!

@@JasonThomasRedhawk Just a heads up I got the beta version and idk if you've already noticed this bug yet but the base air tanker you start with won't fill with water for some reason. Also do you have to unlock additional units as you play?

It is a free-to-play game. Though free users will have many limitations, think of it more like a demo, but a bit better. There's a 1 time cost to unlock the full version, plus there are some other IAP, like additional units, etc
