Fireweed shoots are a great food when harvested in the spring as they are just coming up. This plant is one of the first to comeback after forest fires and logging, it is very abundant and tasty. Harvest it when small, so it is tender and not bitter. Enjoy! • Who Is Harmonic Arts B...

I hate that when I go up into the mountains I'm unable to access internet information for harvesting. Even though I've got books as thick as a dictionaries, many plants are still skipped over. I'm a tenderfoot herbalist so I've got much learning ahead of me on my journey. Thank you as always for taking the time to educate us all🙏🙌

What I do is get a book on the specific area, pacific northwest/cascades in my case, and first draft research quantitywise, and do more intense research on the more common of the herbs so that you know a lot more about something youre far more likely to come across. When I say research I mean having youre own notebook thats decent organized and has the pinpoint desired information regarding herbs, so that you dont have to lug around botany books everywhere. You can also keep a phone library of pictures saved from online from good sources, or print them to put in notebook alongside identification descriptors and such. Of course best case is having a teacher, but if its not possible, understanding the plant families and identification features and relating it to what you or someone already knows, are to me the highest aim for not just beginners but keeping up on that skill so you dont make mistakes in the future
