Peri's Paw Clock was off a bit this morning. He woke me up at 0230 with the remote in his mouth. He must have known that a fantastic video was awaiting for me at 0530. What is three hours more sleep amongst friends. Stayed up and did chores. Thank You for not giving up. You have mastered the Koiti grapple. I remember when you got the grapple. The processor is looking good. It is easy to sit back and Fridsy morning quarterback. Mastering doing seven things at one time is a great accomplishment. Looked like one cookie rolled all the way to the bin. Again, sorting. loading, processing, stacking and videos. It is great seeing stuff moved from one pile to another pile and something being done with the piles. This was worth getting up at 0230. This was like The McWood Yard. I am loving it.

Raining here in the Ouchita Foothills this morning. Got 2 different canopies and one 20x18 carport to split under so no excuses. Got moved into the house overlooking the woodyard yesterday. Spent the first night here. Drinking coffee on the front porch looking at my empire and watching the morning video. Nice angles and a great mix Chris. The camera angle after the crash wasn't to bad really!👍 With the log markets so low. I feel like the logging industry has majorly slowed down and they are currently sitting on purchased standing timber that has been bought, in hopes the markets will recover. As I watch the log piles shrink in the woodyard. I will keep my fingers crossed that you will continue to get more logs to feed the hungry processor.🤞

Separating the logs was nice to see, the straight pieces and 12 to 14 inch diameter logs were good for the processor filling the trailer wi a full cord of wood stacking and Respiting which can cost time and money, what matters is your inventory is increasing day by day,

Good morning and Wow! I really need a grapple. That makes loading the processor so much faster. Right now I'm just using the forks on the tractor since that's all I have. It takes me more time to cut the small diameter stuff with the chainsaw. I just put the little stuff on the processor and run it through. I make at least 3 cuts before operating the splitter. I've also discovered that any knot or stub that poking out of the wood will almost always get hung up on my machine somewhere. The way you stage the wood is exactly the same way I do it. You have really inspired me. I've even started my own RU-vid channel called Millstone Firewood. Thanks for another great video!

Great video Chris ! Really have a good rhythm on the processor. Noticed the supports on the conveyor are a little outta whack. You have quite the productive staging procedure working by yourself . No wasted motion to make the job harder/longer. Ever think about building your scrap pile/road as a wraparound behind the TAJ MAHAL woodbine? You could pull through with the trailer and dump with the controls stretched to the tractor seat. Eventually when you have the bucket on you can push it where it needs to go. No shoveling involved to empty the trailer of scraps into the bucket you had to change out. Just thinking out loud Chris. I love learning from your business practices. Thanks for sharing and protect them nose pickers pal.😀👍

Looking at the video of the processor processing. It seems like sending larger diameter wood followed by smaller diameter wood leaves pieces on the top of the wedge. Those left behind top pieces fall in and get crushed causing excess waste. Might be fixed with an order of operation change. Sort logs into S, M, L diameter piles. Process s then m then l. It’s more wood touching though. Running close to the same diameter wood would also let you optimally position the wedge. Thanks for the vid.

Just a thought from a guy that doesn't do this, but loves watching your videos. Could you take the wedge out of the processor and basically just use it to cut your skinny and nasty stuff down to size, then split later using the smaller splitter?
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 2 года назад
Yup, that is not a bad idea!
@paulstagnoli3964
@paulstagnoli3964 2 года назад
Chris I was going to suggest this idea to you just sort all of the logs under 5 inches into a pile and run them without the cutter blade everything into the trailer including cookies and dump it near where you are stacking and split it there! Also you need a set of forks for the tractor they can be used to move logs same as the grapplers and you can start using ibc totes to make your work a little bit easier and less handling of wood!

Ran two tanks of fuel through the saws yesterday. Thst was enough in the heat. Going to be nice and cool this weekend. Without noodling, am guessing 4 tanks left in the saws with sharp chains to finish off the log pile. Moisture testing of the cherry rounds and some of the oak I split a few days ago is in order today. Plus will be busy restocking my roadside stand today and tomorrow so no idea how much real work I'll get done today.

Regarding end cuts: When you are processing industry standard length logs, the end cuts are are all of about the same size, right? If that is so, your "end cut" could be lopped off at any point of the log- the first cut, the last cut or anywhere in between. In an effort to reduce debris and waste, you might consider using the "end cut" to chop out some of the nasty bits, like crotches and limb knots. Now that you are mastering the controls of your processor, you can fine tune your results a bit. As an incidental bonus, this would improve the quality of your cookie bin by having a higher percentage of tight grain chunks, which are better for the folks burning wood for heat.
@InTheWoodyard
@InTheWoodyard 2 года назад
Good idea and I have tried it, not all logs are the same so it does not work, you end up with 2 cookies!!
@paulstagnoli3964
@paulstagnoli3964 2 года назад
If all of the logs Chris buys fro m John are exactly 100 inches then it would be very simple. Just set the logs to cut at 16 1/2 inches the extra 1/2 inch and the curf of the saw cut a and there would be no cookie to cut and no one would know the difference in the wood length except the stacker or someone using a ruler on it!

With these new areas of “space”, should try cover with gravel and then start laying down pallets. And log storage areas, just lay down gravel and then you just need shake off the supporting logs. Just giving some ideas for the wood yard for less muddy spots.. Less work for a single person with a firewood processor to pre stage wood than continuously on and off and sorting the wood, in the end of the day you would have less processing time than if you just pre-stage it up in the beginning. Leave a 2” space on the split and then cut another one repeat it, so you don’t deform the splitter end from the numbs on the pusher block.

Chris I would love to visit your yard! But im too far away from you I’m in Chicago. Is there a automatic setting in the computer that will automatically return the ram? As soon as you release the leaver the ram will automatically return to its starting position. Check the manual that came with the unit or contact the manufacturer and see if your processer has that function built into the computer. Just some friendly advice from a old old wood cutter. Pulp wood was my game mostly pine woods. Chainsaws and sharp axes and strong backs.

Just from watching your vids alone, There's not a lot to gripe about re: the giant processor. Seems like another eight feet of log feeder rack would make it at least a little bit sweeter. But that's probably going to be another $3,500.00. You do better than expected on the tractor considering there's no ballast box on the rear. I don't remember you getting tire juice put in. I have a question you now have a lot of residual waste now what you dump why don't you buy a cheap wood chipper. what I do with the rest of the waste is I throw it through the shredder and fill big bags with it and sell it as ground cover against weeds in gardens. I ask seventy-five euros for a big bag of wood chips. and I sell a lot of them especially in the spring
