What a great system! Elaine from Canada here, admiring how you’re capturing the waste materials and ending up with a trailer full of clean wood. How satisfying is that? Can you imagine if all that by-product just fell on the ground? Ughh. That 405 is certainly a dream machine. Back in April I did a truck load of beech up in Maine. Super heavy wood hard to split. I don't have any in my part of Massachusetts. It's supposed to burn nice and hot.

I'm lucky to live on the edge of an ancient beech tree woodland - we have some trees 4 or 5 feet in diameter. The wood was used in the past for charcoal to power the iron works in the valley. lovely wood for the fire..

Hi Joe - it’s Big Rodders in Ireland. I enjoy splitting beech whenever I get it. While it is mainly straight grained and the wood and bark splits easily it is liable to explode under pressure when knots etc are met. I’ve had pieces airborne for 8 feet on my 8hp vertical splitter - unsuspecting bystanders jump nearly as high with the explosive noise, all highly amusing to me!

Get couple empty barrel and burn the waste bark. If there no restriction on burning. You get rid of the waste

FWIW I've found that once air-dried and slow-roasted near my stove to MC in the low single digits, beech really burns nicely and long. What's not to love about it?

This stuff was far from dry. It was very green high moisture content inside Beech is a very heavy wood I'm here to tell you

Hey Joe thanks for the video. Have some beach around my place 2 huge ones that you can't put your arms around and 5 or 6 big ones scattered through the woods. Great firewood but no bare footen around almost as bad as sweet gum

That 405 is one smooth machine! Not much better way for a 12 yr old boy during hunting season. Than setting in a virgin Beech stand decreasing the squirrel population feasting on Beech nuts!

We get a lot of beech here in VT. I try to process it quickly. Beech logs don't age well, and the firewood if its not covered seems to degrade quickly.

I looked at the VersaTube and carport type structures. The thing I don’t like is the two closed walls. I really need to backside of the Japa accessible. I’m pretty certain I can do that with a shed style roof with an overhang that is unsupported directly over the processor.

I've said it a thousand times, that's the best processor out and you operate it so smoothly!, It makes you look quite unmanly though because you just run a lever and you don't use an axe. Nice shoes! 🤣

Beech is my favorite firewood, it is under-rated as a furniture wood. You should get some cameras around the wood yard. I got a cheap trail cam at my chicken coop, I get many visitors at night.

Great video Joe. I kinda was hoping you would stack some of the species specific wood alone. You, yourself always preach value added fire wood. I think you could do more smoker wood and it would add a different avenue of revenue for you. Curious about the chips. Are you still doing those or did it just not work out?

Always thought beech looks like elephant legs. Here, WNY, there's a lot of hollow ones. I find it's beautiful straight grain or so so and all wavy.

I think it has 17 tons but I do know that a lot of other manufacturers have an odd way of calculating. Makes 17 ton seem low but it has plenty splitting power

G'day Joe, First comment do I get a hat ? anyway that Japa handles anything you can throw at it, I think if they had a Tungsten tipped circle saw it would overcome the need to adjust the down force pressure and you needing to swap out chains all the time production would also speed up they could provide you with a 12 volt Diamond grinder to sharpen it 👍.

I'm not really swapping out chains that often Ish. These last about 6 tables of logs before I change them out. They def last longer then if they were on a chainsaw

Beech will split very easy if split very green, the more it sits the harder it gets to split. If you get a load of beech, straight to the machine. It dries readily, but does not last as a firewood, meaning if it sits for 2 years it will start to rot quickly,,,, cut it and sell it first.

Might be a lot of beech coming because of the fungus killing lots of them. They get white powdery spots on the bark and you know they are going to die
