First Amtrak trip! Riding the Illinois Zephyr from Chicago to Galesburg 

I did a long, long, time ago to go to a summer camp. Don't remember where.

Oh cool.

1995 - I took an Amtrak with my Boy Scout Troop from Houston, Texas to Minneapolis, Minnesota! I remember going through Chicago! It seemed like the trip took an eternity! It was an epic trip! After we got to Minneapolis, we took a bus up to Ely, Minnesota near the Canadian border to the Northern Tier High Adventure Boy Scout Camp. We spent the next two weeks canoeing across the border in Canada in thousands of glacial lakes!!!! After we came back we went back on a bus to Minneapolis. I remember I bought ALL the Violent Femmes CDs at Mall of America and listened to them on my buddy's DISCMAN with fancy headphones ALL THE WAY BACK on the Amtrak! No wonder I became such a Violent Femmes fan! I was totally immersed in their music for hours upon hours and days upon days on the clickety clack of the Amtrak Track! so many good memories!!! I also remember I almost got in a fight with my buddy Chris. We were trapped in the same seating section for hours upon hours and got on each other's nerves! I'm glad I had music to soothe me on the way back.

Yeah, from the Burg to Union Station. From Chicago's Union Station to New York. From NYC to Boston. From rural coastal Georgia to Washington DC. From DC to Chicago. From New York to rural Vermont. From Moncton New Brunswick across Canada to St George near Banff. I think 🤔 Alberta? WHAT province is adjacent to British Columbia? Maybe Saint George is in BC. Oh, I almost forgot: when a child, a train from El Paso to Guadalajara Mexico. And also to and fro Anchorage to Fairbanks. Yes, Alaska. Edit: also, from Amsterdam to Barcelona, Barcelona to Madrid, Madrid to Gijón, Santiago to Paris, France. There! I think ...oh, wait, there's the late night train to the Crescent 🌙 City, my sweet sweet magical New Orleans, Louisiana.

Yeah, I was going to go there again next week, but I made other plans. It’s one of the best Union Stations around.

Come to think of it, I think I did take that back in 2006. I thought it was Metra or something like that. Maybe this wasn’t my first Amtrak trip, after all! I went from La Porte, Indiana to Chicago with my gf of the time, her brother, and his wife. Sometimes things are forgotten in 15 years.
