I live in bear country. 99.99% of bears want nothing to do with you. As for black bears in my area typically you won't see them, look up in the trees, they are hiding.
I came within 15 feet of a black bear in a swampy area near a river, around 25 years ago, it took off running when it saw me, saw a 400 pound male bear around 2 years ago, but kept my distance.
One of my favorite parks and sadly one of the few that I've not hiked in. Done quite a bit of hiking just south of the park near the town of Essex though. Thanks for taking us along!
Absolutely stunning style in your videos. I truly enjoy the peaceful and relaxing feeling it has on me. Something I needed for a very long time, it's almost like I was transferred into a whole new world. I really appreciate your creativity and the effort you put into making these videos for us to enjoy and benefit from. As someone who struggles with a lot of stress in the recent months, this helps me tremendously to ease my mind and feel calmer. :) Thank you again and wishing you the best.
That was awesome Alice. This is my preferred area for backpacking. Alberta Rockies which borders Montana, Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks are joined by the Canada - US Boundary sharing the trail system. Nice to meet your sister as you Ladies have a common taste for hats. It is grizzly territory over there. It happened to me before as I was exiting a trail 2 years ago on a quiet Saturday morning, here he was right in front of me, a full size male, good thing it wasn't a sow with cubs. My heartbeat increased rapidly, I stood back and waited until the animal moved on. He heard me coming for sure and it is important to watch out, let them do what they do and they will leave you alone. They do not attack on purpose as long as they feel that we are passing through, gently, not running so they won't feel a provocation. Their job is to look for food, berry season is critical. If you noticed berry bushes, hike away. 🇨🇦🥾🏔⛺️🇺🇸
Thanks Radisson I really want to hike more in Canada next year. Yes berry bushes are always dangerous later in the season when the bears are looking for sugar in their diets. I am glad we didn't run into any, and happy to hear you also had a calm experience.
Glad you made it up to Glacier NP. So many trails to choose from. You picked a good one and beautiful weather for you two that day. Great park for hiking. Lake McDonald was fun for kayaking (very clear, blue-tinted water) to see bald eagle nests, but the east side of the park interested me more. Hope it was a good trip.
Thanks for the video. My wife and I hiked several trials at glacier. It is one of our favorite places. You definitely have to take note of bear activity and adjust your plans if necessary. We had to bail out of one trail because of bears and decided select a different trail several miles away.
Glacier National park famous for Grizzly bears and loads of Huckleberry's....if you visit the Highline trail is a must...and if the trail is open, Iceberg Lake
Back in August I backpacked the Skyline Trail in Jasper. Saw some bears from a distance. I have run into black bears on the trail and one time saw a mountain lion while backpacking in Utah.
Hi Alice, I live in Colorado where we have Fourteeners. I really enjoyed your video hike up Longs Peak. My wife also did that hike in her younger days. What I noticed at Glacier is that the Mountains look real high, but their elevation is only around 9 or 10 thousand feet. Did you notice this when you were at Glacier?
love the time lapse the clouds, they are just magnificent, I want to go back did I miss last week's video? surely not. anyways great video as always, thanks for sharing
Have backpacked in Bear Country and I know they don’t like us, we give them a belly ache when they eat us….😂😂especially when people have so many things on their bodies lol. - Personally, I don’t carry a gun, I do carry 2 cans of bear spray, a backup Pepper Spray and an Airhorn of 200db…. - Nothing like hiking solo feeling that every animal is watching me walk through their living room so if I see them I wave and say “Hi”😂. I had a black bear come within 20ft to sniff me out and he got a dose of Bear spray in his schnoz… He sneezed and ran into a tree. You cannot outrun, out climb or out swim a bear…..you are screwed if it decides to chase you SO you pull out your 2 cans and prep for the inevitable. You have to brave it and wait till the bear is really close like, selfie close, then unload the cans. That bear will scamper away like a scolded raccoon. Skunk Juice comes in handy too if you draw a perimeter around your tent roughly 20 yards out❤
When you mentioned on the video, lots of raspberries and blueberries and i am seeing lush green growth and thick alders near the trail, i am thinking perfect place for a grizzly to ambush prey. Wondering if there was any trout in the lake to fish for ?
Have had plenty of experiences running into bears, they were really smart about getting into human food. In fact a bit surprised that hanging your food up like that works and they haven't figured out how to get that down.
Sleeping in a tent in Glacier is awesome but VERY sketchy due to the sheer amount of large animals that want to chew on your gear, never mind the Grizzlies.
The highlight of this great adventure is the last gita music playing nearby the lake. This is a masterpiece gita music which has amazing sound quality with such clear and clean sound stage that reflects the beauty of this lake. You have a great taste of music.
By the way, I was at Glacier National Park 5 years ago. did a lot of hiking and some outback camping as well. on my list to go again. my guess is you had a very enjoyable time in one of the most beautiful parks. Did the rangers make you watch the video about bears and how to avoid them?
@@troyrowe505 Yes. I’m also somewhat experienced in bear country we had a great time. GTS road wasn’t open yet but the park is so big there’s so much to do even when it’s not
