This is so awesome. Bill Monroe, Mac Wiseman and the guys in their prime musical styles. The vocals are awesome, too. Oh, how I love this with a glowing passion. There is simply nothing quite as good as the old style.

I was there - drove down from Chicago with a gang of friends. Two years later, almost to the day, I was a graduate student at McGill University in Montreal. Shortly thereafter I formed a bluegrass band, Cold Water Flat, with Ron Petronko, Larry Miller, and Guy Carpenter. I mention all that for Doug Benson, who noted that he and Ron and Larry were as well.

Michael; I am from Mtl and know all those guys. We were all part of that Montreal scene. Ron was my best friend until he died couple of years ago. We had a band The Bluegrass Ramblers and played with Stan Druzin and Dave Tinkoff. The Blue Angel days with Bob Fuller. And Doug didn't pick but was the chief bluegrasser in the 1960 s Montreal. This pretty much blows me away every time I watch it. There is so much talent on that stage I'm surprised it doesn't collapse! And talk about having fun with their music and playing off of each other! This was definitely a premier moment - one of the few in all of time!

Hey Sheldon Malley, I remember that you were there! Brian Riseborough and Larry Miller rode down with you from Montreal, right? Ron Petronko drove down as well: Ron's festival photos (b&w shots in 1965 and then colour in 1966) have become legendary! Stan Druzin, Ian Turner and I were also at Fincastle - - we rode a Greyhound from Montreal to DC, then hopped a Trailways bus (if memory serves me) for Roanoke. As I recall, we hitched a ride the last few miles from Fincastle with a great banjo player and wonderful guy - - the late Al Osteen from the Carolinas. [Among other things, I understand Al taught Kristin Scott Benson a bunch of banjo.] Keep smiling, Shel - - our 1965 Virginia bluegrass memories will always bring a grin to our faces.

@@grassbuff905 I know all those guys. I am from Montreal and Ron was my best friend until he passed a couple of years ago. We played BG together back in the 1960 s. Stan , Dave Tinkoff and I played in The Bluegrass Ramblers and with Bob Fuller. I go way back to bluegrass in Montreal. Thanks for putting all those names of dear friends of mine on your post. Stan and I played together with Dave Tinkoff. But I was sent to Edmonton just as they were starting to go to those first US Festivals so missed out on that. Stan came to Edmonton to visit in 1967.
