First cut of my acre with my new Cub Cadet XT2, 42" deck. I hadnt cut my grass yet this year because my other ride on decided its transmission didnt want to work. As I say in the video, the grass in some spots is waist high and, I'm 5'9". Part 2, review of machine after 1st year of use, can be seen here: • Cub cadet review part ...

The new XT tractors from Cub Cadet are light years better then the previous Cub Cadet tractors. For the money the new Cub Cadets are hard to beat....I drive a XT2 /42 with Kawasaki engine, the steering feels like power steering with a small turning radius...it's great. I tell everybody who's looking at the John Deere to take a look at the Cub Cadet and they laugh...until they try it... I spoke to one of the engineers during demo days last year. He told me they brought in new people from the aerospace industry and started with a clean sheet of paper..and did it the right way.

You can say that about many current vs past products. We might love to tinker...or even restore that old Farmall tractor out back, but that's not the point. Most people aren't looking to buy/restore 30-35+ year old tractors to mow their lawn. As of 2016, the redesigned Cub Cadet lawn tractor offers very good value for the money. Not something I would have said for the most recent previous generation Cub Cadets.. If you haven't yet, give an XT2 a try...you might be pleasantly surprised.

i do not have 30-35 tractors to mow my lawn, i have two. surprisingly i actually have done very little repairs to either one. sure i took the hood and fenders off the cub and spent an afternoon repainting the sheet metal. otherwise in 3 years of mowing i went through two new front tires, a radiator, grease, oil, little stuff. the old stuff really is that reliable. as far as the cub cadet original i got this thing for a steal. $500, it has the optional fenders, a set of tire chains, and it runs perfectly no smoke or knocks. i had to re-bearing the deck, which is an extremely solid example of one of those decks. i could not pass it up, a collectors item in mechanically great condition. i will have it for decades. i also bought it because if you know anything about the history of these things an early cub cadet is really similar to a farmall cub. its the farmall's smaller brother, they share the same transmission. if you own an vintage machine, sure you will have to know how to wrench and some things will eventually wear out, but the expenses have been minimal. the cub is well cared for, stored indoors but used year round, probably 60+ hours per year. in 3-1/2 years time it has been excellent and will still mow with the best of them. its not a restored example with every nut and bolt removed, its a working tractor. if i have downed tree i can drag it away, i have done that several times as well. the problem with our society is no one is willing to fix anything.... we live in a society where no one knows how to or wants to wrench anymore. people want instant gratification, shiney and cheap. people want to spend X dollars on something and if it lasts a decade or less they are happy. i want something that will last me a lifetime, and i can pass it on to my son and he will pass it on to his kids. im not really interested in anything new and really love my vintage equipment. this is why this is america, you have choices. if you think i spend hours upon hours keeping this older stuff running you are wrong. i spend some time on them because i want to keep history alive, and i feel such machines are still very usable. i hate throwaway mentality i will pass right by the new stuff and head to the parts counter and get whatever my machines need to keep them going. i will say that i hope that these new cub cadets are better then what they have been building for the last 20 years because they cant be any worse. these things have been terrible machines for a long time. i would hope they would have improved. we got burned once and it wont happen again.

When you want to back up you don't need to disengage the blades after you turn the key and hit the orange triangle! I had a Toro with that safety on it. I specifically own older Ford Garden tractors with the cast Iron Kohler engines now because they are so quiet and powerful!

I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. ru-vid.comUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

I'm glad you had good luck with yours. I bought a SLTX1054 Cub Cadet brand new in 2011 I think it was & it was the biggest pile of junk I've ever owned. Worked pretty good the first season but after that it was just one problem after another. I had problems with the front end, problems with the lift system & several problems with the hydrostatic transmission. Had it rebuilt & it worked for 3 mowings of my yard & then it tractor wouldn't even move. They fixed it again & it worked for a couple of months & same problem again they fixed it once more & it worked so good it sits in the corner of my shed taking up space & I can't even drive it. Now I mow my lawn with a John Deere zero turn. I will never buy a cub cadet again.

Just had my offer accepted on a 4 acre property here in Battle Creek, Michigan. Never thought I'd be watching videos on riding lawn mowers. I'd say I've got 2.5 acres of lawn and 1.5 acres of uncleared field (Christmas tree farm?). My neighbors own a combined 105 acres, mostly wooded. My Grandpa once owned a Cub Cadet. I figure if it's good enough for my Grandpa, it's good enough for me. But I don't know, maybe I'm a John Deere man.

When people in Elmira NY Elmira Heights NY and Horse heads NY let their gras grow waist high they give them a citation. They say waist high grass is a safety issue. Man gotta hate that stupid reverse safety thing..... So glad they aren't mandatory here in Australia. Maybe if people just weren't stupid with these things there wouldn't be so many deaths. I think it is enforced in the US becuase I have seen far too many parents letting their little kids (I'm talking under the age of 10 even. If you aren't at least 14 and haven't been trained by professionals like I have you shouldn't be allowed near them) drive ride-on mowers and then go around scratching their heads or thrashing the manufacturer when someone gets hurt. Thankfully there isn't much of the same cowboy recklessness over here cause otherwise I would have to deal with it too in my business! Looks like that mower does a great job though ;D

I been looking around and researching lawn and garden tractors for those with 1 -3 acres and my conclusion bang for the buck by a lin hai 300cc atv and a dr pull behind mower both together about 5k but can cut an acre real fast then disconnect mower and go riding for fun :). All these riding mowers if bought for small homestead 1 - 3 acres for power need 20 plus hp then attachments and by the time done over 5k. atv fast to plow snow, cut grass, plow garden, scrape roads, etc. too. I think small lawn and garden tractors will die soon because ATV's and all attachments available do a lot more faster and can be used for fun and utility as well.

But I made the mistake we all make with brand new mower I didn't walk it first if I had I would have see the junk in my grass So as I mowed My blades keep on hitting hard bits of junk like rocks toys tools ect that was hidden in the tall grass Though I did finish mowing it but next day I I had to go back to the dealer Though my lawn tractor was only a day old. I had to replace both the blades and the deck belt At a cost of $50.00 for the blades and $ 38.00 for a new deck belt . I had damage the blades so badly that they jammed up while cutting the tall grass. It was then The mower stated smoking I had blade jam. that where the Engine will keep turning while the belt has stopped in one spot and it will then burn the belt out in that one spot putting the belt out of balance The deck started shaking Looking back Should gone though the tall grass first If I had got a slash in he would have done his blades in to

@@skippy594 Sorry about that. LOL I was relating to what happened to me. You did OK. by your mower. And thanks for posing My mower change my life As I got it because Im 67. And at the time I had and still have two osteoarthritis knees. that are so bad My doctor wanted to give me two knee replacements. The problem is I have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) What this meant is at the time I could not have the knee replacements as the operation could have killed me. It got to the point I could no longer mow my huge lawn even with my self propelled push mower. And it was then that our local council starting me letters telling me if I could not keep it down they get people in to do it for me. And then charge me for it. So I tried to get some one in to mow it But it just got to expensive Im also on a pension and for me to get some one in to mow it ever tweo weeks that was going to cost me around $100 ever two weeks I could not afford this to pay one off was only going tom cost me $35.00 a fortnight I just could afford this But my wife said she was saving up for a car So look in to buying the mower and paying cash for it I got it a bit cheaper I bought the Rover MTD 547 /38 Lawn tractor when I got the mower I was in ore by it. But the problem was in me. Like the titanic I thought it was indestructible I didn't release that Every bit of machinery we have has a limit and if we push it beyond that limit it can be harm. I push it beyond it means. due to a lack of experience So when I first got it don't realy look out for it , and it cost me but it was a lesion learn from that moment on. how much did you pay for it. looks like it runs and works well, but time will tell if it has any durability. my mowing "rigs" are time tested and proven. i have a 1961 IH cub cadet original and a 1948 farmall cub. i would like to believe that they make quality products with the cub cadet name on them but we will see. back in 1998 my parents bought a brand new cub cadet 2135 it lasted less then 350 hours when it scrapped. the paint fell off, the muffler rotted out and cost $300 for just the part, the deck fell apart, the paint fell off the snowblower and the sides bent in. it was an awful, awful machine. my stepfather replaced it with a really nice IH cub cadet 149 from the mid 1970's. he repainted the tractor, rebuilt the mower deck and snowblower, and rebuilt the engine. good as new, he loves it. the IH stuff sets the bar extremely high and if these things last that long, i will be impressed. there still today, countless examples of IH cub cadets still in service. they sold to MTD in 1981, that was a long time ago. as far as buying anything new i had a really bad taste in my mouth from that last experience. it is extremely unlikely that i will EVER buy anything new. i choose to stick with what i know works well. both my machines have decent decks and both of them will mow for decades. some specs on the 1961 cub cadet original. it has a kohler K161 cast iron block 7hp engine, it has a timed 38" mower deck, it has a heavy duty frame and the transmission was sourced out of the farmall cub.... not kidding either. IH did that to save on engineering and tooling, what the ended up with was something way overbuilt. you will never break one doesn't matter what you do with it. the engine doesn't produce enough power to ruin it. amazing, its only a 7hp machine but IT will mow what you mowed in this video. hp ratings are exaggerated, do not believe their marketing...... a farmall H was only rated at 26hp and that is a large farm tractor (in its day) that's my story, nice looking machine and i hope it lasts
@skippy594
@skippy594 8 лет назад
The mower cost $2300 after tax
@ad356
@ad356 8 лет назад
my farmall cub $1,600 and add another $300 or so for the 60" mower by the time i bought the mule drive and related pulley. before you think its silly to pay that much for a 66 year old tractor, its still worth today what i paid for it, and will be until the end of time. its a larger machine and has a 4 cylinder engine. it has hydraulic lift. to this day parts are easy to get. i also got front and rear weights, tired chains chains, 54" blade, and a sickle bar that i resold for $350 because i simply had no use for it. i still have a belt drive unit that could run a buz-saw. im not going to use a buz-saw so i might sell that too. if you subtract $300 from the $1600 i did quite well. $2,300 for a mower that holds up isnt too bad as long as it lasts. some of the previous models experienced engine and rear end failures at less then 100 hours. i hope these are built better for your sake as it is a bit of gamble. i hope they dont still use the courage, that engine had no courage i might have to put a clutch into my cub at some point. it rattles. new rear tires can set me back $4-500. they will also have to be replaced in the coming years. i think she's been a good investment but nothing is without its expenses. there are times i needed something heavier then a lawn tractor and she fit the bill well. i had a downed tree i had to drag around. she surprised me how well she did the job.
@skippy594
@skippy594 8 лет назад
Well, its like I said before, you dont see stuff like that in my neighbourhood and when it does come up, people selling it want ridiculous prices for junk machines. I only have an acre so a 60 mower deck is too much for me. The new cub cadets have a kawasaki engine so if that says anything about reliability, nothing does.

The 2100 series were not the top of the line for CC.. The 3000 series retailed for around $ 5900.00 in 2001 and was considered a true garden tractor, not a lawn or yard tractor. Many folks are quite satisfied with them. Of course some are not as with any brand even the green tractor. Sorry you had issues with it...
@ad356
@ad356 7 лет назад
the 3000 series had ground engaging capability but still does not compare to the old school IH built machines. the newest IH built machines are now over 30 years old. even at that age, when they are neglected and stored outside the sheet metal and steel frames can still be refinished. the steel back then literally never rusts out. just surface rust, it rarely even pits
