FIRST DAY OF THE SEVERN VALLEY RAILWAY DIESEL GALA 2019

I visited the SVR Diesel Gala on Thursday 16 May 2019 and commenced shooting at Oldbury Viaduct before progressing along the line by car and train to Bewdley.
Eleven classes of locomotive are shown comprising: 31, 33,37, 40, 42, 46, 47, 50, 52, 55 and 88.
This was an excellent gala for diesel enthusiast with trains running more or less on time.

Brilliant & creative coverage of the event Alan, you certainly got about a bit but produced a great result. It's hard to believe how old these loco's are and a few of them bought back some memories for me.... Best Regards, Brian.

Alan, many thanks for this excellent footage of a clearly excellent show put on by the SVR. It's always interesting to gauge the level of support for an event and maybe the high interest level that diesel galas attract could be explained, in a heritage context, by steam having become the norm and diesels being more of a novelty, despite the fumes and need for ear defenders. Anyway, enough psychology and full marks to both you and the SVR! Kind regards, Bob.

Thanks Bob. There is obviously a great amount of sentiment for diesels at all ages. From a videographer's point of view one gets twice the value from a gala as they are always facing the right way! Regards Alan

Nice one looks good. I've just seen a convoy of a colas class 70 and class 50 050 fearless on the mainline in Gloucester a few minutes ago. I wondered if you knew where it was going? Absolutely love that 47749

50035 looks great in the second shot. Peak looks great too, though it does seem to be making a sort of squeaking noise. Nice bass sound from the Deltic too.

I swear there is NOTHING to match the sound of a Western giving it the beans.... Having lived their entire service lives within earshot of the Paddington mainline, I've just been transported back to childhood! Amazing how some sights and sounds stay in the subconscious...

I'm pleased that you got something from my video Mike. I find smells are evocative too, one sniff of bread being toasted and I am transported back to my grandparent's farm kitchen in Lancashire immediately after the war. Alan

I'd say at 02.13 the train is passing a stop signal.

The side facing the driver is white with a black vee which tells him that the signal does not apply to him. In any case the signal is a 'caution' one which he would be allowed to pass but expect the following 'stop' signal to be at danger. This being a single line the signal, having a yellow face with black vee, only applies to trains approaching from the camera side. Stop signals are painted red with a white band.
