Friday January 24th was a typical English January day cold, damp but relatively calm. The guest engines at the gala were LNER K1 62005 and Great Western Hall Class 4953 Pitchford Hall. The other locomotives featured here are; Black 5 45305, 6990 Witherslack Hall, 73156 and a glimpse of 46521 warming up for the morrow. Time keeping slipped 10 minutes from the start and by early afternoon, to paraphrase Reginald Perrin, "50 minutes late at Quorn, points failure at Loughborough."

Many thanks, Alan, I thoroughly enjoyed this - really excellent pace and variety. A pleasure to see - and hear! - the K1as well as Pitchford Hall which is looking magnificent. Despite the time-keeping - the Reggie Perrin quote fits perfectly - it looks as though the GCR are to be congratulated on another splendid effort. No blue sky, but at least the temperature made way for some very respectable exhaust displays. I assume the wreath on the K1 was significant? Kind regards, Bob.

Thanks Bob. Black for a Hall is beginning to grow on me...but I still prefer green! Yes, GC Galas are second to none. I'm told that the wreath was in memory of NELPG volunteer Dave Whitefield. Kind regards Alan
